Weekend Read 29 October 2022

Weekend Read 29 October 2022

Let’s talk about beauty sleep.  I have always believed that beauty comes from within and that our bodies have an opportunity to heal as we sleep.  So as the clocks go back an hour at 2 am tomorrow morning in the UK, in theory we get an extra hour in bed, although it does take time for our time clocks to adjust.  So, if I may, I would like to talk about beauty sleep because research has indicated that many of us tend to survive on less than six hours sleep each night, which is not really enough, and according to further studies, a lack of beauty sleep can affect the health of our skin.

While we sleep, our bodies recharge and so does our skin, so if we are talking about a lack of beauty sleep, we need to look at the reasons why a lack of qualitative sleep can have a profound effect on the health of skin, most especially because studies have solidified the link between a lack of sleep and skin health.  There are several different aspects to this and so at this point I will refer you to Shabir’s article on the subject, which I have linked below.  And having referred you to that article, I want to talk about a few of the products mentioned in that article.

On skincare supplementation, I absolutely know that I wrote about Skin Restoring Ceramides very recently, but it gets another mention because it creates a protective layer to help retain nutrients and water. The root cause of many skin concerns is inflammation, and in this instance an increase in cortisol (the stress hormone) can break down the tiny lipids, known as ceramides, which hold the skin cells together.  The breakdown can often result in dehydration of the skin.  So as I take this section by section, I am dropping the price of Skin Restoring Ceramides from £25 to £22, essentially because it is known that a lack of sleep raises cortisol levels in skin.  And we need to deal with it.
VH Editorial: Lack Of Beauty Sleep; Skin Restoring Ceramides by Life Extension £22 for 30 Softgels (offer ends at midnight GMT, Sunday 30 October)

I now want to talk about the importance of massaging your skin, preferably not in the middle of the night.  I know that many of us are time-restricted, but massaging really helps boost the circulation of your skin and will also help ease any underlying inflammation.  I also know that however good our intentions may be, we tend to give up because there is always something else to do and we get out of routine.  Except I have the perfect solution, The Sculptor, which is a rather wonderful facial massage tool, that helps support lymphatic drainage and will boost microcirculation to ease tension and reduce puffiness.  I roll it when I’m watching television, and I invite you to do the same.

So as we rock on and roll our skin together, I will tell you that The Sculptor is another of those bestselling products from Temple Spa, and as such I will include a Temple Spa gift with every order placed for The Sculptor, with no limitation on volume because I recognise that some of you may wish to gift The Sculptor, which I have done in the past and will probably do in the future.  I suppose it would be good to let you know what the gift is, and it is AAAHHH (15 ml), full details of which are on the product page, linked below.  If this goes into a pre-order status, we will of course honour all orders placed, as you would expect.  And this offer is for the interim.
The Sculptor by Temple Spa £30 + Free AAAHHH (15 ml) from Temple Spa; AAAHHH Instant Cooling Balm by Temple Spa

Two more products to talk about from the Beauty Sleep editorial, and staying with Temple Spa, Shabir has also mentioned the Eye Therapist.  The Eye Therapist was created as a specific eye massage tool, which performs in exactly the same way as The Sculptor, but its decreased size allows a more targeted approach.  I am absolutely not telling you that it will give you an eyebrow lift, but with regular use these tools will help support and strengthen the delicate skin around the eye area.  They also happen to be very cute and because of the price, they would also make a brilliant gift and if you are looking for stocking fillers, they tick that box too.  They are £10.
Eye Therapist by Temple Spa £10 for One Pair (Tip: Keep them in your fridge)

And finally, as you would expect, Shabir has recommended Neurophroline Serum in his article because it is clinically proven to reduce cortisol in skin.  I am almost embarrassed to write about Neurophroline again, but there is no doubt in my mind that this serum should be an integral part of any skincare regimen, which is why I keep writing about it.  Anyway, I need to overcome and I will do so by saying that I dose Fulvic Face Cream with Neurophroline Serum.  And because I do that, I am inviting you to join me, if you so wish.

So this is what I am going to do.  I am putting the wound-healing Fulvic Face Cream together with stress-busting Neurophroline.  For this treat I will be using the travel size Fulvic Face Cream, which is 30 ml.  The cost of the travel size Fulvic Cream is £15, and because I totally believe in the efficacy of both products, I am offering both to you for £20.  Given that the price of Neurophroline Serum is £19.50, the price of Fulvic Face Cream becomes 50p.  I promise you I haven’t lost my mind, I just think it is important to uphold the trust and belief I so often write about, and the best way to do that is to share with you wherever and whenever I can.  For balance.
VH Editorial: Stress Ages Our Skin; Neurophroline Serum by Garden of Wisdom for VH 30 ml + Fulvic Face Cream 30 ml £20

Another one of my caveats here, and that is that I cannot split the two products.  This is a combined offer and as such we do have limited stock availability, so although I am not putting a time limit across this, I will say that if these products fail to go into your basket, the offer will have ended.  And with the conclusion of my words on how a lack of sleep can affect your skin, I will now turn to how that same lack of sleep can affect our bodies, and that includes daytime fatigue, irritability and shorter concentration spans.

Before anything we have to talk about inflammation once again.  And if there was just one supplement that both Shabir and I would recommend to help address this core issue, it would be Essential Youth L-Ergothioneine.  Ergothioneine is a potent antioxidant amino acid that is found concentrated in the glands within our body that are subject to significant inflammation, such as the heart, liver, kidneys and skin.  It is also present in blood cells and unlike many other antioxidants, Ergothioneine has a specific protein in the body that carries it into every cell, thereby neutralising the compounds that cause inflammation.

It is of course well documented that inflammation makes our cells age faster which, in turn, makes our bodies prone to several age-related concerns.  By neutralising cytokines (small proteins) and other inflammation-inducing compounds, Ergothioneine helps enhance healing processes within the body.  Inflammation hinders these processes, so with a strong recommendation that we need to supplement the levels of Ergothioneine which are present within our bodies, I am linking Shabir’s article below and dropping the price of Essential Youth L-Ergothioneine from £22 to £19 across the weekend.  Let's fight inflammation.  Together.
VH Editorial: Is Ergothioneine The Next Longevity Nutrient; Essential Youth L-Ergothioneine by Life Extension £19 for 30 Capsules (offer ends at midnight GMT, Sunday 30 October)

Daytime fatigue is a big issue and so many of us seem to be affected by this.  It is a given that there is a root cause for every health concern and I don’t think we need to say too much here, other than we have been through, and are still going through, the most difficult of times, which of course affects our energy levels.  I know this is a huge generalisation because of course there are certain health concerns, such as adrenal stress, which can cause fatigue, but I want to keep this simple and I will do so by referring you to Shabir’s article, linked below, as I drop the price of Daily Energy, formulated by Shabir, from £20 to £16.  It’s a fix.  Perhaps.
VH Editorial: Enhancing Energy; Daily Energy £16 for 60 Capsules (offer ends at midnight GMT, Friday 4 November)

With all of that covered, I would just like to talk about ongoing issues with raw ingredients.  Stemming from the pandemic, this issue remains problematic in terms of supply and demand, so with that said I will tell you that after a rather long absence, the Aduna teas are now back in stock.  There are five different teas to choose from and I have listed them below, but will refer you to each individual product page to discover their specific attributes.  There are 15 biodegradable Tea Pyramids in each box, and to celebrate their return, I am offering you a 20% discount across all five teas until midnight GMT, Friday 4 November.  Sip with purpose.

And on the subject of sipping with purpose, Tonic Health’s Night Time Immunity Drink delivers a high-strength dose of scientifically proven nutrients to help support the immune system.  These nutrients include Vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, Chamomile Extract and Montmorency Cherry Powder, the latter of which helps to promote relaxation.  It is recommended that you should take this immunity drink an hour before going to bed and it’s all pretty simple, just mix one sachet with 350 ml of water, hot or cold, but not boiling.  So to sleep, and hopefully it will be uninterrupted sleep, which would fit neatly with my opening paragraphs.

Onwards, and as many of you know, D-Mannose tablets help to prevent cystitis and they are also used to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTI’s).  As such they provide immediate bladder support, which is really important and, on from that, they have a cumulative effect, meaning that the longer you take these tablets, the healthier your bladder becomes.  So the news here is that Waterfall D-Mannose are now available in a Lemon flavour, and I really can’t ask you to take a product long-term without enabling and supporting you to do so.  So, short and sweet, I am dropping the price of D-Mannose Lemon to £18 from £21.49.  For the interim.
Waterfall D-Mannose Lemon by Sweet Cures £18 for 50-Chewable Tablets

Right, I have a few things to say, so let me begin this section by talking about the Heated Eye Wand PRO, which we launched last weekend.  I know that I’ve written about the Eye Therapist from Temple Spa above, but they are two entirely different concepts and so as not to confuse the issue, the Heated Eye Wand PRO is clinically proven to help improve dry eyes after just one use.  What I also need to say here is that we have received numerous requests for a nickel-free version of the Heated Eye Wand and I absolutely promise you it’s on its way, I just don’t have a definitive launch date yet.  I will keep you updated.  As ever.

Time to delve into the ever-evolving Christmas gift category and I will do so by telling you about a limited edition gift set from Lanolips.  It includes one 101 Ointment and one Bronze Gold 101 Ointment together with a keyring that clips your favourite balm to your bag, belt loop or keys.  Not a lot more to say really other than the Lanolips Treat & Tint Duo has a product value of £21.99, the retail price is £19, but I’ve decided to lower that further as it now becomes £16.  And it goes without saying that once they are gone, they are gone.  As we move on.
Lanolips Treat & Tint Duo £16; Christmas Gifts

And we move on to another Lanolips offering and this time it is the Lanolips Ultimate Strength Hand Duo and the duo is Rose Hand Cream Intense (50 ml) and Vanilla Hand Cream Intense (50 ml).  Formulated to help transform very dry hands, each will leave a silky veil on the skin for continual moisture.  They are loaded with lanolin, so if you do have a lanolin allergy, these products are not for you.  As you might have guessed, I have a lanolin allergy, but notwithstanding that we launched this brand into the UK many years ago, so I have a bit of a soft spot for Lanolips.  And with that said, this duo has a product value of £17.98, the retail price is £15 and I’m dropping that to £13.
Lanolips Ultimate Strength Hand Duo £13

I often write that we each have a choice in the products that we use, so for those who have a lanolin allergy, you may want to take a look at three new products from Carmex.  Actually, you don’t need to have an allergy to look at them, as this is a natural range from Carmex and each of them are clinically proven to visibly smooth and soften your lips after one use.  Put to the test, they do what they say they will do, so here they come and they have arrived in three flavours as listed below and they are great to use as a hydrating primer before using lipstick or as a top coat after applying lipstick.  Or you could go naked.  Lara is using Watermelon.  Make mine Berry.
Naturally Intensive Hydrating Lip Balm Berry by Carmex £3.95 for 4.25 grams; Naturally Intensive Hydrating Lip Balm Pear by Carmex £3.95 for 4.25 grams; Naturally Intensive Hydrating Lip Balm Watermelon by Carmex £3.95 for 4.25 grams

As I sit here and wonder if Shabir will show some love for the Pear Lip Balm, please let me tell you about a product that Shabir really does love, and so do I.  I’ve mentioned it often, but I’m doing so again because I’ve put it in the Christmas Gift section.  It’s ever so cute and I think it makes a really thoughtful gift.  It is loaded with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Lavender and Menthol and not only does it help clear your sinuses when you are suffering from a cold, but it will also help wake you up if you feel tired during the day.  It makes a brilliant travelling companion and for an aromatic shower, sprinkle it on the shower floor and turn on the heat.  And the product is of course Breath Of Life from Temple Spa.
Breath Of Life by Temple Spa £12 for 10 ml

I’m not sure I should really be writing this because every time I write about the 4711 products there is an issue.  But despite the fact that it messes with my head, I do need to tell you that I have been told officially that the 4711 Cooling Stick has been discontinued permanently.  It could become a collector’s item, unless they change their mind again, but I thought I should update you and I will also update you by telling you that after a long absence, the epic 4711 Watch Bottle is back in stock.  And having just said that, I suppose I will now be told there is a long-term manufacturing problem.  At which point I will give up.  And scream.
4711 Eau De Cologne Watch Bottle by Glockengasse £6.10 for 25 ml

Nearly at the end, but a few more things to say and the first is that I have another one of those limited edition offers from Aurelia and it’s their Conditioning Eye & Lash Cleanser.  Infused with refreshing cucumber, this eye and lash cleanser removes all traces of make-up and will gently cleanse the delicate eye area.  I have done this offer before, but I’m doing it again because I have already written about two different eye products, so I thought I might as well write about three.  With full details on the product page, the Conditioning Eye & Lash Cleanser drops in price from £32 to £19.  Whilst stocks last.
Conditioning Eye & Lash Cleanser by Aurelia London £19 for 100 ml

Before we head into the Saturday only treat, just a word here about Repose from Temple Spa and the PURE Overnight Hand Mask by Margaret Dabbs.  As you know, I have been writing about both of these offers over the past three or four weeks, so all I am doing here is saying that both of these offers will end at midnight GMT, Monday 31 October, in other words they will only be available for three more days.  There is a caveat here and that is that if either, or both of them, go out of stock before that time, it will all be over.  So amen to that.  And thank you.
Repose Relaxing Night Cream by Temple Spa £42 for 50 ml (+ Repose Relaxing Night Cream 50 ml free); PURE Overnight Hand Mask by Margaret Dabbs London £30 for 35 ml + Free Luxury Treatment Gloves; Luxury Treatment Gloves by Margaret Dabbs London £10

And here is the Saturday only treat, and it’s a gift that is in keeping with all I have written about lack of sleep.  I know how many of you struggle to sleep, so with every order placed for £30 and above, excluding p&p, we will include an individual Spacemask in your order.  With full product details listed below, I just need to say that as far as epic brands go, Spacemasks is right up there.  And it always will be because it’s not only about the product.  That’s a loaded sentence, I fully intended it to be.
Spacemasks

As we come to the end of another Weekend Read, just a few words and if you ever wondered what we look like, over on Instagram Lara raids our stockroom and helps herself to some Christmas gifts.  Sleep On It by This Works to be precise. I have nothing to add to that, other than she needs to stay away from the products I have mentioned today.
Instagram

Finally, please do remember to turn your clocks back tonight, and perhaps we can collectively sing this song as we calmly surrender ourselves to the night.  Feeling the love, hope and optimism we have always shared.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight by Elton John; The VH Playlist

With love
