Weekend Read 13 July 2024

Weekend Read 13 July 2024

Hello, another Saturday, another Weekend Read and we really went on a roll last weekend, so let’s continue that roll and I am going to begin by talking about Digestive Enzyme Complex, which we launched last weekend.  In many differing ways Digestive Enzyme Complex marked a seminal moment, seminal because it completed the first curated phase of DoSe supplementation and seminal because it demonstrated the intent and purpose across each of the DoSe products, an intent and purpose dedicated to an ongoing and exacting exploration of pioneering, evidence-based supplementation.

I wrote a lot about the importance of digestive enzymes last weekend, but rather than repeat my words, the easiest thing to do here is to link last Saturday’s Weekend Read below, if you missed what I wrote.  What I will say here is that we launched Digestive Enzyme Complex with a ‘ban the bloat’ agenda, but digestive enzymes play such an important role in digestive health, I almost feel they should be mandatory because I know the difference they make, most especially if you regularly experience constipation, heartburn, acid reflux or indigestion, all of which are such common health concerns.
Weekend Read: 6 July; DoSe Digestive Enzyme Complex (60 Capsules)

Anyway, having reached that seminal moment, I am somewhat emotional because the DoSe products have allowed us to talk about the importance and efficacy of clinically evaluated products and of course their point of difference which, in turn, allows a significant point of difference in an over-crowded space.  I recently wrote that our greatest reward was the positive difference these products make to so many of you, and although I was specifically referencing Superior Joints at that time, this is true across each of the DoSe products, and there are now twenty-three of them.

Through all of this, Hyaluronic Acid remains our bestselling supplement because it continues to make a statement, that statement acknowledging the role that BioPerine® plays in increasing the efficacy of HA by approximately 2000%, this is also true of Turmeric Curcumin C3 Complex where BioPerine® is also included in the formulation.  I am not going to write about the attributes of each of the DoSe products because that would take up this entire newsletter, but what I am going to do is offer a 15% discount across all of the DoSe products, the supplements to be precise, in order that we may celebrate and share this moment, a moment of gratitude.  Thank you.
DoSe Supplementation (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 14 July)

Before we move on, I just want to say that there are eight formulations still waiting to receive the DoSe branding, but this is merely a label change together with the logistical transition required at this time.  Carrying the heartbeat of our evolutionary approach to complementary medicine, I think that NAD+ Generator will be the next supplement to receive the DoSe branding, which also aligns with our protocol, that protocol being the unification of clinically evaluated formulations, based upon the foundations of scientifically recognised and acknowledged evidence.

With all of that said, I now want to talk about the importance of Selenium and the relevance here is that Selenium was considered to be an irrelevant nutrient, but as a result of studies and clinical evaluation, scientists discovered that Selenium is actually crucial for our health.  Selenium is now considered to be an extremely important trace mineral with research and studies indicating its role in regulating metabolism, cell manufacture, helping to enhance reproduction and the neutralising of damaging free radicals, thus protecting the body against infection.

Interestingly, there is a body of evidence showing the protective effect of Selenium against cell mutation and this has recently been reinforced, and endorsed, by the results of a number of important studies in the US and Finland, which Shabir refers to in his article linked below, specifically citing a study from the University of Arizona regarding cell mutation with 1600 recipients.

Selenium bonds with proteins in our bodies to create compounds known as selenoproteins and because it is believed that at least twenty-five unique selenoproteins exist within our bodies, it is important that Selenium supplementation should contain L-selenomethionine, the most absorbable form of selenoproteins.  We recommend Super Selenium Complex, not only because it contains L-selenomethionine, but because it is an advanced formulation containing other selenoproteins too, each of which have a role to play for optimal efficacy, supporting the findings of that extensive clinical research.

I have written much about medicinal mushrooms across the years, primarily because they have a wide variety of benefits and although the use of medicinal mushrooms dates back thousands of years, there has been a resurgence of interest in medicinal mushrooms in the recent past, so we are going to take another look today.  The reason why we are taking another look today is because Dirtea have just launched some new products, so please allow me to introduce you to the Dirtea Mushroom Gummies.

There are four Mushroom Gummies in the range, Lion’s Mane Gummies, Cordyceps Gummies, Chaga Gummies and Tremella Gummies, each of which have been formulated with specific functional benefits.  I think that the easiest thing to do here is to refer you to Shabir’s article below, where he describes the benefits of each of the medicinal mushrooms in the range.  I think many of you may prefer the gummies to the powders, so as I tell you that the gummies are loaded with up to 3000 mg of functional mushrooms and essential vitamins, I will just add that I am dropping the price of the Dirtea Gummies from £29.99 to £27.  For the interim.

As ever, it remains crucially important to talk about common health concerns, so with two of those concerns in this section, I will begin with Benign Prostate Enlargement (BPE), which affects approximately 50% of men over the age of 50 and almost 90% of men over the age of 80.  BPE is also known as Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) which occurs when normal prostate cells grow abnormally, with some researchers suggesting that hormonal changes may lead to BPH, but whatever the reason, as the prostate gland enlarges, it presses onto the urethra, the urethra being the tube that carries urine out of the bladder to discharge.

In all of this, it remains relatively unclear why some men get BPH with the only established factors being age and family history, but what is clear is that natural remedies are important, if not invaluable, for the prevention of BPH.  Saw Palmetto berry extracts have been extensively researched for their benefits in prostate enlargement with several studies indicating that it works to help inhibit the enzymes that convert testosterone into DHT, a compound which is widely accepted as being the most likely compound to cause prostate growth, with some studies further indicating that Saw Palmetto berry extracts are equal to prescribed medication to improve urinary flow.

With decades of research substantiating Saw Palmetto as the gold standard for natural prostate support, we recommend PalmettoGuard, which can be used alongside conventional therapies, with a word here to say that although BPH is most commonly associated with ageing, we strongly recommend seeking a professional diagnosis if you are concerned.  And with that said, I am dropping the price of PalmettoGuard Saw Palmetto With Beta-Sitosterol from £20 to £18 across this weekend.
VH Editorial: Benign Prostate Enlargement; PalmettoGuard Saw Palmetto With Beta-Sitosterol by Life Extension £18 for 30 Softgels (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 14 July)

The second health concern I want to talk about is vaginal dryness, which I talk about rather a lot, but I do so because it is one of the most common concerns associated with declining female sex hormones and it is estimated that one in four women will experience vaginal dryness, with typical symptoms including itching, painful intercourse as well as urinary discomfort.  Often spoken about as a symptom of perimenopause and menopause, vaginal dryness can occur well before the onset of menopause and well beyond menopause and I think it is important to state that fact.

What I also want to talk about here is the role of a very specific essential fatty acid, and that essential fatty acid is Omega 7, which is derived from Sea Buckthorn Oil.  Shabir does the lowdown on its attributes in his article, linked below, where he talks about a study conducted by The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Finland.  That study concluded that Sea Buckthorn Oil was a natural and effective solution contributing to the health of mucous membranes which form the protective lining of internal organs, including the vaginal tract where vaginal dryness occurs.

The other thing to say here is that following extensive research, studies have shown that Sea Buckthorn supplementation helps to counter the multiple symptoms of dry eyes, but reverting to vaginal dryness, we recommend the use of a safe topical product as an adjunct to Omega 7.  That product is Yes VM, a water-based vaginal moisturising gel which has been formulated to match the typical vaginal environment, known as the vaginal vault.  And with ongoing research determining the importance of Omega 7 supplementation, I am dropping the price of Sibu’s Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn Oil from £22.95 to £20.
VH Editorial: Overcoming Menopausal Vaginal Dryness; Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn Oil by Sibu £20 for 60 Softgels (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 14 July); Yes VM – Natural Vaginal Moisturiser by The Yes Yes Company £11.99 for 100 ml

Being neat and having just mentioned dry eye syndrome, a few words here to talk about the importance of hypochlorous solutions, which I have written about over the last two weekends, yet it all began several years ago with Clinisept+ Mouthwash, which is a hypochlorous solution formulated to support optimal oral health.  I stand by every word I have ever written about Clinisept+ Mouthwash because I believe that Clinisept+ is the best mouthwash on the market, notably because hypochlorous solutions are primarily used to help clear bacterial infections, with harmful bacteria often being the root cause of gum disease and tooth decay.
Clinisept+ Mouthwash £7.95 for 400 ml

Having digressed, I will revert to eye health and I absolutely know I am repeat messaging about Hypochlorous Eye Lid Spray, but this outstanding formulation has been clinically tested for the treatment of blepharitis and because it also helps calm the redness of the skin around the eye area, I will continue writing about its importance.  This is the third weekend I have written about this product, so another mention too for Advanced Comfort Eyelid Oil, which helps to regenerate dry and irritated eyelids, with a promise that I won’t write about them next weekend.

Right, let’s go back to seasonal products and hay fever is a seasonal concern, and it will remain a concern for the next couple of months. The easiest thing to do here is to let Shabir do the talking, which he does in his article linked below, and because he suffers from hay fever, this is a subject which is close to his heart.  And, as I drop that article below, I will also drop the price of Aller-DMG, our bestselling supplement for allergies, from £29 to £26, with a special and well-deserved mention for The Eye Doctor’s Hay Fever Eye Compress as well.  It’s really useful for headaches too.  A touch of multi-tasking here.
VH Editorial: Hay Fever Relief For The Family; Aller-DMG by DaVinci Laboratories £26 for 60 Tablets (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 14 July); Hay Fever Eye Compress by The Eye Doctor £9

Staying with seasonal products, I wrote many words about dehydration last weekend and although I was referencing swollen feet and ankles, electrolytes play a very important role in helping to prevent dehydration and my words came with a recommendation to take Electrolyte Fix Liquid.  Such is it’s importance, Shabir has now included it in his article where he talks about common holiday health problems, so as I tell you that Mrs White’s Unstung Hero, Thyme Out and the Moskinto Patches remain our three bestselling products in this category, Electrolyte Fix Liquid isn’t too far behind them.  Electrolytes are most definitely having a moment.
VH Editorial: Common Holiday Problems Solved; Mrs White’s Unstung Hero Mosquito Repellent £20 for 250 ml; Thyme Out £18 for 200 ml; Moskinto Itch Relief Patch £6.95 for 24 Plasters; Electrolyte Fix Liquid by Viridian Nutrition £13.85 for 100 ml

Life is all about moments, so let’s share another moment because I have some new products to tell you about and those new products are from Lanolips.  Let’s begin with the Lanolips Lip Scrubs which have a rich hydrating lanolin base and that base is joined by natural fruit extracts and natural sugar, which will gently dissolve dead skin flakes, hydrating the lips for a smooth lip foundation.  Available in two flavours, Strawberry and Coconutter, I will drop the launch price to £7.99 from £8.99, and just perhaps I am having another moment, because of course we launched Lanolips in the UK.  And that really was a moment.  Then.
Strawberry Lip Scrub by Lanolips £7.99 for 10 grams; Coconutter Lip Scrub by Lanolips £7.99 for 10 grams

Onwards, and the third new Lanolips product is their 12-Hour Overnight Lip Mask and this is where the epic 101 Ointment has been super-charged because it has received an injection of smooth-operating actives including Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Ceramides.  Formulated to deliver those actives all night long straight from its tube, the 12-Hour Overnight Lip Mask is pure comfort food for your lips and Lanolips liken it to wearing a cashmere sweater while you sleep.  I fully concur and in so doing I will follow through by dropping the launch price of the 12-Hour Overnight Lip Mask from £13 to £11.  For the interim.
Lanolips 12-Hour Overnight Lip Mask £11 for 15 grams

And just before we head into the Saturday only treat, a reminder that throughout the month of July, we are offering a 25% discount across all of the Better You products, but also to say that if any of the products go onto a wait list, I promise that we will honour all orders placed as soon as we are able to do so.  Actually, let me also say that if any, or all, of the Lanolips products flip onto a wait list this weekend, I will totally honour the launch pricing.  And that is the end of that.
Better You Products

So, the Saturday only treat and with every order placed for £35 and above, excluding p&p, we will automatically send you a gift* and it could be one of several gifts we have to share with you.  As ever, I hope you enjoy receiving and using the gift you receive and with all of that said, and I’ve said rather a lot this weekend, we come to the end of another Weekend Read.

Finally, I wrote at the beginning of this newsletter that I was having an emotional moment, but as so many of you know, I often have emotional moments and I was certainly emotional when I wrote about the wisdom of forever last weekend.  The wisdom of forever has so many interpretations, but there is an innate and profound wisdom in the healing power of music, so with those words and after last weekend’s anthem song, Fix You, another Coldplay song as we continue to light up our path, our collective path.  Because just perhaps our togetherness is written in the stars.

With respect, gratitude and love, I wish each of you a restful weekend.
