Weekend Read 14 September 2024

Weekend Read 14 September 2024

Well, here we are and after sharing the Fulvic love last weekend, together with my words about the power of sharing, I am going to go straight in this week and in so doing this enables me to share my love of, and for, Hyaluronic Acid.  I think most of you know that I wouldn’t want to live without HA and I stated over twenty years ago that HA was probably the most crucial of all anti-ageing supplements.  I still stand by that statement, with the caveat that we now believe that NAD+ Generator, a pioneering supplement backed by extensive research and clinicals, is as important as HA for healthy ageing, but of course they do different things.

Primarily HA is required for the cushioning of joints because a lack of HA in our joints sets off the wear and tear process, which can lead to cartilage destruction and joint pain.  That lack can often lead to chronic inflammation in our joints, essentially because the levels of HA in our bodies decline with age, but of course HA is not only required for the cushioning of joints, it has an important role to play in eye health, most specifically dry eye syndrome where studies have indicated that those experiencing dry eye syndrome often have lower than normal levels of HA in their bodies and to a certain extent, the same is true of vaginal dryness.

Interestingly, when I began writing about HA, I threw the focus on its ability to help plump skin, which it absolutely does and twenty something years later, I stand by that statement too, mostly because I have never under-estimated the critical importance of taking supplementation for skin health.  I often wrote that it was my skin insurance and saviour, it was and it still is, but now that I am older, I have shifted the focus somewhat, mostly because I want to protect my joints as best I can and HA offers that for each of us, notably because it has been formulated with BioPerine®, which increases the bioavailability of HA by up to 2000%.

Having mentioned NAD+ Generator above, I have written quite extensively over the recent past about its eight cellular anti-ageing mechanisms, which has everything to do with healthy ageing, but appropriate healthy ageing.  This is important because so much nonsense is written about turning back the clock, as it were, and I actually despair when I read some of those articles, mostly because they are so far removed from reality.  My reality is that there are clinically evaluated supplements which support the healthy ageing process and NAD+ Generator is one such supplement, as it appropriately addresses preventative healthcare.  Without the drama.

It needs to be said that when I am writing these newsletters I often have moments, and I am having one of those moments again and the reason I am having a moment is because I wrote about both of these products a few weeks ago, but I threw the focus on NAD+ Generator.  And having put the focus on NAD+ at that time, I threw in the travel size HA as a gift with purchase, which is of course worth £17.50.  It was always my intention to do the reverse when I next wrote about both products, aka today, which would mean that with every purchase of HA, I would throw in the travel size NAD+ Generator, which is worth £16.  Except, I have just changed my mind.

I am impulsive by nature, and I absolutely promise you that some of the things I write about on these newsletters are not planned in advance and this certainly wasn’t planned, but it looks like this.  If you buy Hyaluronic Acid High Strength Capsules, we will automatically send you the travel size (15 capsules) free, which as I have just written is worth £17.50.  And here is the twist, if you choose to buy NAD+ Generator, we will also send you the travel size HA free.  Actually, it’s not a choice, you can order both if you so wish, but just make sure you click on the correct link below to avoid confusion and by way of confirmation, this offer is not limited.
VH Editorials: Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid; Are NAD Supplements Beneficial; DoSe Hyaluronic Acid High Strength Capsules 30 Capsules for £35 + HA Capsules Travel Size Worth £17.50 Free; DoSe NAD+ Generator £32 for 30 Capsules + HA Capsules Travel Size Worth £17.50 Free (offers end at midnight BST, Sunday 15 September)

Throughout the years, and there have been a lot of them, I have always recognised and acknowledged that most of us take the same core supplementation and as I have written so very often, that brings a sense of comfort, yet that comfort can only ever be acknowledged by respecting the ongoing research, studies and clinicals across preventative healthcare.  We are indebted to this research because it allows and enables purpose, such purpose allowing the recognition and acknowledgement of cutting-edge and pioneering ingredients which, in turn, enables an evolutionary and individualistic approach to health and wellbeing.

I want to stay with evolution for a moment, and if I were to take a retrospective look at how ingredients have evolved across the years, then I would probably say that Magnesium, as an ingredient, would be key to that statement, evolving here in terms of recognition and acceptance.  There are of course other key ingredients which fall into this genre, but Magnesium has become mainstream and it fully deserves mainstream recognition because this is such an important mineral.  It is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions, supporting muscle and nerve relaxation, energy production, hormone manufacture, bone health and the stress response.

There are many things to say about Magnesium, but the most fundamental point is that we are mostly Magnesium deficient and many studies have indicated that low Magnesium levels use more energy, which means we get tired when perhaps we shouldn’t be tired.  Studies have also shown that Magnesium supplementation can help address sleep deprivation by decreasing the release of cortisol, the stress hormone and further studies have indicated a connection between low levels of Magnesium and stress headaches.

Magnesium is also known to have muscle and nerve-relaxing properties, but there are many forms of Magnesium and whilst each individual compound may have certain specific benefits, we believe that Magnesium Complex offers a comprehensive approach to addressing numerous deficiencies as it contains eight forms of Magnesium, including Magnesium Glycinate for cellular energy and nerve relaxation, Magnesium Aspartate to help reduce the levels of cortisol and Magnesium Citrate to help cleanse the GI tract.  With an in-depth look at Magnesium deficiencies linked below, I am dropping the price of Magnesium Complex from £22 to £19.  And here, we are complete.

Staying with ingredients, I am now going to throw the focus on some lesser known compounds, but just because they don’t receive the recognition of some of the big-name compounds, they still play an important role in our health and wellbeing, and I will begin with Taurine, which is an amino acid.  The interesting fact about Taurine is that it was once considered to be non-essential, simply because it is manufactured by our bodies, but extensive research has now determined Taurine to be an essential amino acid, playing a vital role for many of the processes in our bodies.

Amino acids are compounds derived from proteins, such as chicken, fish and meat, which are broken down and utilised to rebuild body proteins from our hair to our feet, but they are also required for cell function, cell regeneration, for the formation of antibodies, for hormone production and for enzyme production too.  In effect, they are as important as vitamins and minerals for the optimal function of the entire body.

Like many compounds, our levels of Taurine deplete with age, but of course it is also important to note that vegetarians and vegans are often Taurine deficient, so with published research on the multiple benefits of Taurine, Shabir takes an in-depth look at this amino acid in his article linked below, with a side mention for highly caffeinated energy drinks.  Actually, it’s probably not a side mention, but a full-on mention.  Let’s move on.

And as we move on, we are now going to take a look at Black Garlic because research has shown that each clove of garlic has over four hundred beneficial compounds found within the oil, and the key compound is called allicin, which has many health benefits.  Garlic has been shown to be beneficial in normalising blood sugar levels, but it also stimulates white blood cell activity required by the immune system for fighting infections, with some studies indicating that garlic fights infections that are often resilient to some antibiotics.  Having potent antimicrobial properties, it was used to treat cholera and dysentery in the 1950s, so its history is quite fascinating.

Most of the research and studies to date have centred on White Garlic, however there is much interest in Black Garlic and White Garlic becomes Black Garlic following a month-long fermentation process and has a similar content of allicin, but it doesn’t carry any odour.  The other point here is that Black Garlic contains a very specific compound called S-Allycysteine (SAC) in high concentrations and this has been shown to assist with the absorption of allicin, increasing efficacy and one more thing, because it is well tolerated by the digestive system, the incidence of gastric distress is minimised, which can be problematic with White Garlic.

The third ingredient I want to talk about today is Berberine, although it doesn’t quite fall into the lesser-known category because much has been written about this compound in the past year or so and it is a compound that is found in several plant species including Oregon grape, Barberry and Tree Turmeric.  It has a long history of use in Chinese medicine, with a particular emphasis on sugar control, which has been substantiated by more recent research, with clinicals confirming the importance of Berberine for the maintenance of healthy blood sugar levels.

Taking a closer look, Berberine is linked and associated as being beneficial for weight loss as it helps to lower blood sugar levels.  If sugar is not burned for energy, our bodies produce more insulin to burn sugars, but insulin is the fat depositing hormone of the body, and this often results in weight gain, so it follows that in helping to lower blood sugar levels, we are able to maintain healthy insulin levels.  But aside from helping to prevent weight gain, and offering weight loss support, studies have indicated that Berberine plays a role in reproductive health and gut health.  And with an in-depth article linked below, Berberine HCI drops in price from £25.95 to £23.

Right, let’s do a new product and it comes from Viridian Nutrition, except it isn’t a supplement, it’s a lip balm, a rather wonderful lip balm called Organic Lip Nurse.  Formulated to moisturise dry, sore lips, this arrives just in time for the autumn/winter season when our lips often need a dose of hydration and Organic Lip Nurse provides that hydration with natural organic ingredients, including sunflower oil and cocoa butter.  It has a naturally sweet citrus flavour and because it makes me happy to support and endorse ethical products, I am dropping the price for launch from £10.50 to £9, and if it flips onto a wait list, we will honour all orders placed across the weekend.
Organic Lip Nurse by Viridian Nutrition £9 for 8 ml (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 15 September)

And because it is September, albeit we are halfway through September, let us do the TEMPLESPA offer for the month and it is their Eye Truffle.  Eye Truffle is a luxurious eye cream which nourishes and hydrates the eye contour, formulated with peptide and stem cell technology, ingredients include champagne extracts (grapes), phytic acid, kombucha and sodium hyaluronate.  Vitamin E is also included to help soften dehydrated skin and with full product details listed below, Eye Truffle drops in price from £70 to £40, which is a saving of £30, and this offer is available throughout the rest of the month, ending at midnight Monday 30 September.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and after my words last week about seasonal gifts when I wrote about Neom’s Ceramic Star Natural Diffuser and its associated gifts, I just want to say that the demand was extraordinarily high. I guessed it would be because the Ceramic Star is £5, so before I do anything else, a note here to say that if you want this star, I suggest that you order it this weekend because as with rather a lot of seasonal gifts, this is a limited edition offer and once they have gone, they have gone and they will not return until the 2025 season, and that’s an assumption from me, but I think I am correct in that they will return.  Mostly because they are loved.
Ceramic Star Natural Diffuser £5; Essential Oil Blend Scent Discovery Kit £35; Perfect Peace Essential Oil Blend £22 for 10 ml; Cosy Nights Essential Oil Blend £22 for 10 ml; Christmas Wish Essential Oil Blend £22 for 10 ml: All by Neom Wellbeing

I also wrote last weekend that we would be populating the seasonal gift section of our site as and when we received new products, and I will work my way through those products each week, but if you can’t wait for me to write about them, we update this section nearly every day at the moment.  So, two products to talk about today, the first is from This Works and it’s Dream To Sleep, a trio of sleep solutions which includes Deep Sleep Pillow Spray (75 ml), Deep Sleep Shower Gel (100 ml) and Deep Sleep Body Cocoon (100 ml), which is blended with Shea Butter, Camelia and Sativa oils, fragranced with the Deep Sleep signature scent of Lavender, Camomile and Vetiver.
Seasonal Gifts; Dream To Sleep by This Works £30

The second seasonal product is a product which always makes an appearance at this time of year and then disappears, which is all rather unfortunate because we never have enough and it always sells out.  That product is Restitude from TEMPLESPA and steeped in soothing Mediterranean essential oils, including Patchouli, Geranium, Sweet Orange and Vetiver, Restitude transforms from a luxurious liquid into creamy, aromatic bubbles.  Every year I write that Restitude should be available all year round, but it isn’t and if you love it, then my recommendation is to stash, for the year.  And I might just regret writing that.
Restitude by TEMPLESPA £25 for 300 ml

So before I write anything else that I might regret, let’s head into the Saturday only treat and with every order placed for £35 or above, excluding p&p, and staying in the spirit of the moment, we will automatically include TEMPLESPA’s AAAHHH (15ml)*, which is an instant cooling balm for tired feet and limbs and with full product details listed below. I always think that when people use capitals they are shouting, but I’m not shouting, although it has to be said that capital letters disturb my rather sensitive equilibrium.
AAAHHH!

And as one thing leads to another, I have often written about being highly sensitive, many of us are, but I honestly don’t believe that I would be able to do what I do without acknowledging the sensitive side of me.  It is a difficult path at times and it can be extraordinarily lonely, but if we are to honour ourselves, there has to be an absolute recognition that we need the love and support of others, which is why community is so incredibly important to me, because it brings the comfort of belonging.  And a way of being.

In and of itself, life makes us vulnerable, but I have always believed that in acknowledging our vulnerabilities we are able to heal by opening our hearts and our minds to a way of being which enables an understanding of the energetic rhythm of life, a way of being which we will be exploring together tomorrow evening, Sunday 15 September at 6 pm BST with Poppy Delbridge, and although this exploration has a scheduled ending for around 6.30 pm BST, we may just linger on for a while, a short while.

So, as I invite you to join us tomorrow evening, I will confirm once again that you can come as you are because this discussion is being held on a Webinar platform and we won’t be able to see each other, but the one thing I do know is that we will be able to feel each other because there is such a power in communal energy, which many of you have experienced before.  And it’s all rather intoxicating.  So, with the registration link below, I’m more than ready to be intoxicated.
A Way Of Being with Poppy Delbridge

Finally, this song is already on the VH playlist, but the words ‘take comfort in your friends’ are shared in dedication to collective wisdom and honesty, and our time together tomorrow evening.
