Weekend Read 22 June 2024

Weekend Read 22 June 2024

Hello on another Saturday, and as I welcome you to the Weekend Read, I would like to continue talking about state-of-the-art supplementation after my words last weekend referencing Milk Thistle Complex and NAD+ Generator.  State-of-the-art supplementation is in our DNA, it always has been, and DoSe supplementation represents our commitment to honour and respect the tenets of that genetic coding, as it were, without deviation.

So without deviation, and also by way of qualification, Hyaluronic Acid sets another example here because there are many forms of Hyaluronic Acid and there are differing strengths of Hyaluronic Acid, so in order to benefit from the many attributes of Hyaluronic Acid supplementation, the formulation needs to be delivered in its correct therapeutic strength.  Like many compounds in our bodies, levels of HA decline with age, so it is of critical importance to take a form of HA which aligns with, and is supported by, researched clinicals, allowing optimum efficacy based upon a considered and discerning evaluation of scientific evidence.

HA plays an integral role in cushioning our joints and it also retains approximately 1000 times its weight within the cells of our skin, so as such we believe HA to be essential for skin health, yet interestingly the first HA medical product was intended for use after eye surgery, most specifically to speed up the healing process.  HA is found in the vitreous fluid in the eyes and because of its ability to help lubricate the eye tissues, it has been shown to be beneficial for dry eye syndrome, which is a really common concern.

A moment here to say that in many ways DoSe supplementation is the culmination of our work across two decades and as we roll through our third decade, HA continues to be one of my must-take supplements because I know what happens if I don’t take it, which I suppose is the acid test for any form of supplementation.  There have been several incarnations of HA, which is to be expected if we are to evaluate and address clinical evaluation accordingly.  I often write that in order to make a difference we have to demonstrate that difference and DoSe Hyaluronic Acid allows an identification and demonstration of that difference.

DoSe Hyaluronic Acid is a high strength formulation containing 300 mg of pure HA, as sodium hyaluronate, which is the bioavailable form of HA, but the difference here is that BioPerine®, a patented extract containing Peperine, is also included in this formulation, further enhancing the absorption and bioavailability of HA, which has been shown in clinicals to supercharge compounds by up to 2000%.  So, as Shabir does the lowdown on HA in his article linked below, I want to celebrate that difference which translated means that when you buy DoSe Hyaluronic Acid, we will automatically include the travel size of DoSe Hyaluronic Acid (15 capsules), which is worth £17.50.
VH Editorial: Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid Supplements; DoSe Hyaluronic Acid £35 for 30 Capsules + DoSe Hyaluronic Acid (15 Capsules) Free (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 23 June)

There is no doubt in my mind that DoSe Hyaluronic Acid is best-in-class in its genre and given that it is our bestselling supplement, its efficacy is acknowledged and demonstrated by its status. That is important, but what is also important is that for a supplement to carry the DoSe branding it has to conform to an exacting standard of excellence, with a strict adherence to that excellence.  So, in further demonstration, I want to talk about Turmeric Curcumin C3 Complex, and if we are talking, we need to do some straight talking, essentially because I am huge proponent of straight talking.

Not all supplementation is created equally, we all know that and we all know that I mention this rather a lot, but I mention it rather a lot for good reason.  There is much confusion about supplementation, but there is also much nonsense written and I am citing Turmeric here as an example because the blanket narrative, as it were, is misleading and, at times, wholly disingenuous.  The issue here is that the blanket narrative often fails to distinguish the legitimate difference between lesser forms of Turmeric, and because those lesser forms do not carry the clinically evaluated form of Turmeric, the rhetoric significantly fails too.

Leading the field, Curcumin C3 Complex is the foremost clinically studied form of Turmeric and is the gold standard for Turmeric extracts.  Clinically researched and evaluated, Curcumin C3 Complex contains a patented extract of three of the most researched curcuminoids, Curcumin, Demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC), with the two latter curcuminoids included to stabilise Curcumin. Their presence also ensures the efficacy and efficiency of Curcumin, serving to protect against oxidative stress, which Curcumin as a stand-alone compound cannot do.

Evidence based supplementation is core to our being, so once again BioPerine® has been included in this formulation to further enhance the bioavailability of Curcumin C3 Complex and with that said, I will refer you to an article from Shabir where he takes a look at the health benefits of Turmeric, recommending Turmeric Curcumin C3 Complex, which drops in price from £26 to £23, across the weekend.  On a roll.
VH Editorial: Turmeric: The Spice With Health Benefits; Turmeric Curcumin C3 Complex £23 for 60 Capsules (Two Months’ Supply) (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 23 June)

Turmeric Curcumin C3 will of course carry the DoSe branding in the fullness of time, but we are not quite there yet.  Having written about two of our own supplements, I think it is important to say here that DoSe, as a concept, will only ever platform state-of-the-art products as I have written above.  In translation, we continue to support excellence, and we set the bar high.  In so doing, there must always be recognition of pioneering excellence and that recognition determines the curation of all products, allowing us to acknowledge intent and commitment.

In honouring intent, I want to talk about two very common health concerns with two state-of-the-art solutions, the first concern being chronic stomach problems.  Stomach problems are extraordinarily common and persistent stomach problems are usually associated with some form of gastritis, although there are many forms of gastritis.  Gastritis is the inflammation of the lining of the stomach and it has many causes which include stress, excessive alcohol consumption and the prolonged use of NSAIDs, yet there are times when gastritis can develop after a chronic infection, and the most common of these is an infection by the organism Helicobacter pylori.

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium species found in the stomach, and as one of the most common infections in the world, it is estimated that 50% of the world’s population harbour H pylori in their gut.  Identified by scientists in 1982, H pylori was found to be present in those with gastritis and gastric ulcers, demonstrating a bacterial connection, whereas it was previously thought that incidences of gastritis and gastric ulcers were solely linked to stress and poor dietary habits.  The issue here is that H Pylori is difficult to eradicate since it thrives in the acidic environment of the stomach and long-term use of antibiotics can often lead to resistance.

Gastro-Ease is a natural alternative and it has been formulated using a specialised form of Zinc, as Zinc L-Carnosine, and a specialised strain of Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri).  Studies have shown that when Zinc is combined with Carnosine, stomach health is considerably improved as it allows a healthy inflammatory response, encouraging the production of mucus, which offers protection in the harsh acidic environment of the stomach so, with conformation, I am dropping the price of Gastro-Ease from £39 to £35, across the weekend.

The second common health concern I want to talk about is losing control of your bladder, which is an embarrassing concern with widespread ramifications.  I think the best thing to do here is to refer you to Shabir’s article, which takes a detailed look at the causes of, and the treatment of, an overactive bladder with a recommendation for Life Extension’s Water-Soluble Pumpkin Seed Extract, noting an emphasis on the word ‘extract’, which differentiates itself from supplementation formulated with Pumpkin Seed Oil.

In recent studies, the water-soluble fraction of Pumpkin Seeds has demonstrated impressive results as the seed extract exerts a tissue-building effect on the pelvic floor muscles, and being rich in amino acids, the extract serves as a building block for every single tissue of the body.  Additionally, Pumpkin Seed Extract helps increase nitric oxide, a molecule which is crucial to help prevent the hyperactivity of the bladder. Three separate studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of water-soluble pumpkin extract, referencing the alleviation of urinary incontinence, so to conclude this section, I am dropping the price of Water-Soluble Pumpkin Seed Extract from £20 to £17.

Moving on, I have always loved multi-tasking products for several different reasons, but primarily I love multi-tasking products because I believe in simple solutions, which is why I have always respected and supported the work of Dr Colette Haydon, the founder of Lixirskin.  When we launched Lixirskin, Colette and I campaigned for simplicity, truth and honesty in an industry which was difficult to penetrate, but not only was it difficult to penetrate as an independent, it was difficult to penetrate because we were making a stand for simple solutions in an industry which was, and is, deliberately designed to market complex solutions.

So, I want to take a moment here to talk about Universal Oil, which illustrates our approach to simple solutions, and in many ways we could call this a statement product, a statement product because Universal Oil is just that, it is a universal oil which has many different uses.  Taking a look at its attributes, I will begin by saying that it can be used all over the body as an effective way to hydrate skin, it can be used as a bath or shower gel and if you mix it with salt or sugar, either will do, it becomes a body scrub.  As if by magic.

The stand-out difference between Universal Oil and most other oils, is that this is a rinseable formulation and as such it can be used as an oil treatment for the scalp and hair, most especially in the summer months when our hair tends to become dry and brittle from sun exposure, which doesn’t seem likely in this country, but never mind that.  Anyway, if I am calling this a statement product, which I am, I am going to make another statement, that statement being that I am dropping the price of Universal Oil from £39 to £20, to demonstrate our commitment to simple solutions, solutions which are not funded by multi-million dollar marketing spends.

Right, I have some news and that news is all about Mrs White’s Unstung Hero, which is one of our bestselling summer products, and it looks like this.  Unstung Hero is offered in a glass bottle, but it is also offered in an aluminium bottle, which works really well if you are travelling.  However, stock levels of Unstung Hero in the aluminium bottle are pretty low and we will not be receiving any more stock this season.  You can of course decant the liquid from the glass bottle for travel purposes, but I just wanted to let you know the situation as it stands, and as it stands, I’m not sure that our supply of Unstung Hero in the aluminium bottle will last across the weekend.

Staying with summer products, I want to talk about soap, but most specifically Incognito’s Citronella Luxury Citronella Soap, which is a smooth textured soap made with Citronella and pure Coconut Oil.  Fragranced with citrus, this soap was formulated to reduce attractiveness to insects and offers protection by way of making you smell more like a plant than a human. Although this soap was formulated for the purpose of repelling insects, it can also be used all year round, because it’s rather fabulous.  I love a great soap.

From a soap to a powder, Beach Powder.  Beach Powder is a talc-free powder which removes wet and dry sand from the skin which is really simple to use.  Just sprinkle the powder onto sandy-skin and brush it off with your hands and abracadabra, you are sand free.  Beach Powder has a delicate vanilla fragrance, it is made from a natural blend of plant and mineral powders and it is safe for use on children and babies.

One more thing before we head into the Saturday only treat.  I have written about the exacting criteria for DoSe supplementation above so, following through, some words about DoSe skincare. Last weekend we launched DoSe Daily Moisturiser and I believe that Daily Moisturiser exemplifies our pragmatic approach to skincare products, because each of the DoSe skincare products have been formulated to fall under the skin health umbrella and, in our opinion, skin health is key to conceptual skincare.

There are no overnight fixes to skin health and using Ergothioneine Serum as an example here, the words I have been writing about Ergothioneine are based upon continued usage of more than eighteen months.  I am not suggesting that you have to wait eighteen months to see the results, but I feel it is important to manage expectations, as opposed to saying that all of the lines on your face will disappear overnight because that is a ridiculous notion, and I will not subscribe to ridiculous notions.

Healthy skin is happy skin and I opened this Weekend Read by talking about Hyaluronic Acid supplementation, so being neat I will conclude by saying that I know I am incredibly biased, but the DoSe Hyaluronic Acid Serum really has exceeded all my expectations and is everything I expect, and need, for a healthy skin regimen.  Actually, biased or otherwise, we wouldn’t bring a product to market if it didn’t live up to promise and because I believe that Hyaluronic Serum lives up to promise, I am dropping the price of Hyaluronic Acid Serum from £15 to £13, because I feel like it and because I am passionate about product integrity.  I always have been.
DoSe Hyaluronic Acid Serum £13 for 30 ml (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 23 June); DoSe Daily Moisturiser £15 for 50 ml; DoSe Ergothioneine Serum £26 for 30 ml

And into the Saturday only treat we go, so with every order placed for £35 and above, excluding p&p, we will automatically send you a gift* with your order.  This could be one of several gifts, so whichever gift you receive, I hope you enjoy it as I wrap this Weekend Read with some more words, words which follow through from last weekend when I wrote that we stood outside of the crowd.

We do stand outside of the crowd, and although I was referencing specific clinical studies when I wrote those words, I have always made a stand about standing outside of the crowd because I refuse to play a subservient role to the shenanigans of the health and beauty industry.  I honestly don’t care what I write about the health and beauty industry because as with all things in life, we must carry the conviction of our own belief system. In so doing we are enabled to stand in our own truth.

And suddenly, as I was thinking about standing outside of the crowd after the Weekend Read was released, I had a moment, a somewhat nostalgic moment as I remembered a song, a song from my childhood, and perhaps yours too, where a tuba, Tubby The Tuba, stood outside of the crowd, the crowd being an orchestra.  There are so many messages in this song, but one of my favourite moments is when Mr Frog sings to Tubby, followed by the moment when the visiting conductor, Signor Pizzicato, allows Tubby to play his own song to the orchestra. And just perhaps, we are conducting our own song and our own orchestra.

Leaving it there, I wish each of you a restful weekend.

Warmest
