Weekend Read 15 June 2024

Saturday 15 June, halfway through the month and we are on a roll with summer health concerns and summer products, but we are also on a roll with new product launches, so I am going straight in as I introduce you to DoSe Milk Thistle Complex.  Milk Thistle supplementation is predominantly used for liver cleansing and detoxification and as the liver is critical to the optimal function of all processes carried out within our body, it is one of the most crucial organs in the body.

Working tirelessly to maintain healthy glucose and cholesterol levels, the liver also helps break down the fats in our digestive system, converting food using the enzymes produced to allow for the easy assimilation of nutrients.  Additionally, the liver detoxifies metabolic waste products, such as ammonia, as well as other toxins and pollutants such as heavy metals, including lead and mercury.

The liver is considered to be one of the most abused organs and liver disorders are common, which are often the result of liver damage.  It is currently estimated that over 50% of people over the age of fifty suffer from some form of liver disease, and in many cases they may not be aware of it.  Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the most common liver concerns and this term is used for a wide range of liver conditions.  So, with all of that said, let’s take a look at DoSe Milk Thistle Complex as we continue our exploration of pioneering and cutting-edge supplementation.

There are several different forms of Milk Thistle available on the market, so it was important to embrace the most recent research, studies and clinicals in order to achieve optimal efficacy. The three well-established liver cleansing herbs, Milk Thistle, Artichoke and Dandelion, are used in many formulations but we wanted to create an advanced, next-generation formulation, so DoSe Milk Thistle Complex was formulated using a therapeutic strength of Milk Thistle extract combined with Milk Thistle seeds.

Milk Thistle extracts are often standardised to provide the active compound, Silymarin, yet it is the seeds of Milk Thistle which display an extensive range of beneficial compounds found in Milk Thistle.  Silymarin, as a stand-alone compound, is poorly absorbed by the body, so in order to increase efficacy, Milk Thistle seeds were included in this formulation as a point of difference, an important point of difference, which synergistically optimises and supports liver health.  Additionally, Choline is included, playing a beneficial role in helping to maintain normal liver function by utilising fats which may otherwise be deposited in the liver, which can result in sluggish liver function.

One more key ingredient to go and that ingredient is N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) which is included for its ability to bind with heavy metals, aiding heavy metal detoxification.  As such, NAC also contributes in helping to achieve optimal liver health and function.  Serving to support and protect the liver, Milk Thistle Complex can be used two or three times a year as a liver cleanse, but of course it can also be taken on an ongoing basis, so as we celebrate the launch of DoSe Milk Thistle Complex, and state-of-the-art supplementation, I am dropping the price of Milk Thistle Complex down from £18 to £15 across the weekend.
VH Editorial: Milk Thistle For Liver Detoxification; DoSe Milk Thistle Complex £15 for 30 Capsules (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 June)

Let’s have a conversation about state-of-the-art supplementation, because we have always considered state-of-the-art supplementation to be dependent upon evidenced proof of efficacy, and I am going to use NAD+ Generator as an example here.  If we are to lead by example, then we must acknowledge and respect scientific evidence, even if that means we stand outside of the crowd, and in this instance we have been standing outside the crowd for quite some time. There is no doubt that the research on NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) for longevity was extensive and important, but we believe that the research on RiaGev® supersedes that research in terms of efficacy and clinical evaluation.

It is well established that levels of various compounds decrease as we age, and NAD+, which is a co-enzyme, is one such compound and this specific compound plays an important role in fighting cellular ageing and enhancing energy levels which are required for cell repair and regeneration.  Without sufficient NAD+, the body cannot carry out its functions efficiently, a fact based on scientific studies and research, yet scientific studies and research have also shown that NAD+, NMN and NADH, which are very large molecules, cannot be absorbed directly by our cells in meaningful quantities.  And that is an issue.

Challenging the status quo, RiaGev® combines Bioenergy Ribose with Vitamin B3 in the form of nicotinamide to enhance NAD+ levels and it does this by providing building block nutrients for the cells to manufacture NAD+.  I think it is so incredibly important to constantly challenge the status quo, most especially because clinical evaluation has shown that RiaGev® delivers an increase of NAD+ by 10.4% within five days, and at twenty-eight days it indicates an increase of almost 30%, working on an accumulative basis.

We are all different, and we have differing health concerns, which determines the supplementation we choose to take, and it is a choice.  As many of you know, I don’t take every supplement I write about, but I do take NAD+ Generator in recognition and acknowledgement of its role in the ageing process, the healthy ageing process.  NAD+ Generator is a remarkable next-generation formulation and as such we want to share its extensive attributes with you, so when you buy NAD+ Generator, we will automatically send you the travel size of NAD+ Generator (15 capsules), which is worth £16.

A word here to say that in the fullness of time NAD+ Generator will carry the DoSe branding, but the travel size NAD+ Generator will arrive with the DoSe branding, which leads me to a new skincare product which has arrived with the DoSe branding.  So, as we continue to drip-feed in the DoSe products, please allow me to introduce you to DoSe Daily Moisturiser, which represents another significant advancement in skin health, superseding Daily Hydrator, a bestselling product from the Garden of Wisdom range.

Designed by Shabir to deliver comprehensive hydration and improved barrier function, DoSe Daily Moisturiser has been formulated using three types of ceramides, Ceramide NP, Ceramide EOP and Ceramide AP.  Ceramides are crucial lipids found naturally in the skin that help form the skin’s barrier and they help retain moisture in the skin.  By replenishing these lipids, Daily Moisturiser helps to restore and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, preventing moisture loss and protecting against environmental damage.

The multi-ceramide complex is a key factor in this formulation and it is joined by Hyaluronic Acid in the form of Sodium Hyaluronate, which is far superior to standard Hyaluronic Acid as Sodium Hyaluronate has the ability to penetrate deeply into the skin, offering enhanced hydration, which we believe is really important.  What is also important is that Ergothioneine, the powerful antioxidant, is also included in this formulation and although we are only halfway through the year, there is no doubt in my mind that Ergothioneine will win the ingredient of the year accolade when I write the VH Awards in December.

Actually, Ergothioneine could become the ingredient of the decade, such is its brilliance, so with that said, l have been testing Daily Moisturiser extensively and I know that many of you will want to know how it compares to Fulvic Face Cream.  They are two entirely different products, Daily Moisturiser is a lighter formulation, it is suitable for all skin types and for the purposes of testing, I have been using it in the morning and I have stayed with Fulvic Face Cream in the evening, but you would expect that after the thousands of words I have written about the efficacy and the considerable healing properties of Fulvic Face Cream.
DoSe Daily Moisturiser £15 for 50 ml; Fulvic Face Cream £30 for 60 ml

A few more words, to wrap this section and the first thing I want to say is that I continue to dose both Daily Moisturiser and Fulvic Face Cream with my chosen serums, and I think it goes without saying that Ergothioneine is one of those serums.  Double-dosing with Ergothioneine makes me extraordinarily happy, but then it makes my skin happy too, so all good there.  The second thing to say is that I have been writing about the importance of ceramides for many years, so referencing Skin Restoring Ceramides, Shabir does the lowdown on ceramide supplementation in his article linked below, as I drop the price of Skin Restoring Ceramides from £25 to £22.
VH Editorials: Beauty Supplements To Boost Your Skin; Ergothioneine Serum And Its Benefits For Skin; Skin Restoring Ceramides by Life Extension £22 for 30 Liquid Capsules (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 June); DoSe Ergothioneine Serum £26 for 30 ml

Onwards, and rolling back into summer travel, the Drowsy Silk Sleep Eye Mask is probably the best eye mask we have ever used. It is perfect for long-haul travel, supporting jet lag, but of course this luxurious padded sleep mask can be used all year round as it blocks out light, cushioning the eyes and muffling sound.  It comes in either Midnight Blue or Damask Rose, and in a limited edition offer, when you buy the Drowsy Sleep Mask, we will automatically include Drowsy’s Sleep S.O.S night ritual pillow spray (50 ml), which is worth £25, whilst stock lasts. Heaven on earth.  Perhaps.
Drowsy Silk Sleep Eye Mask: Midnight Blue £69 + Drowsy Sleep S.O.S Free; Drowsy Silk Sleep Eye Mask Damask Rose £69 + Drowsy Sleep S.O.S Free

Over the past two weeks, I have more or less thrown the focus on summer health concerns and summer products in preparation for those moments in the sun, and of course Mrs White’s Unstung Hero remains our bestselling summer product, closely followed by Moskinto, the itch-relief patches which instantly soothe insect bites.  On from this, most of the products I have been writing about across the past two weeks are included in Shabir’s article, Common Holiday Health Problems Solved, which I am linking below, for ease.
VH Editorial: Common Holiday Health Problems Solved; Mrs White’s Unstung Hero Mosquito Repellent £20 for 250 ml; Mrs White’s Unstung Hero Mosquito Repellent £15 for 100 ml (Aluminium Bottle); Moskinto (The Intelligent Patch) £6.95 for 24 Plasters

I would like to talk about ingrown hairs, not because it is a specific summer concern, because it isn’t, but it is a really common problem and Elsa’s Organic Skin Food Armpit Restore Serum is a really great solution for the treatment of ingrown hairs, bumps and irritated skin.  Formulated to be used anywhere you shave, pluck or wax, it is gentle enough to be used immediately after hair removal, where it will calm the skin, and it should also be used in-between hair removal treatments to help prevent ingrown hairs. That’s all I really want to say, other than I am dropping the price of Armpit Restore Serum down from £28 to £25, across the weekend.
Elsa’s Organic Skin Food Armpit Restore Serum £25 for 30 grams (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 June)

Honey is a natural antiseptic and it has a long history of usage because of its ability to heal wounds and although there are many forms of honey, Comvita’s Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel with Manuka Honey is an outstanding formulation. Using sterilised medical-grade Manuka Honey, it promotes wound healing and it reduces the risk of infection for broken skin, which is really important.  Although it is suitable for many skin conditions, including broken eczema-prone skin, minor burns, bedsores, and cuts and grazes, I want to throw the focus on its ability to help heal leg ulcers.

Leg ulcers are open sores on the foot that look like red craters on the skin and basically these ulcers are breaks in the skin which fail to heal by themselves and they are often accompanied by inflammation.  Shallow leg ulcers will just break through the surface of the skin, but deeper ulcers can extend through the full thickness of skin, exposing tendons and bones.  Leg ulcers are located mostly on the side of the foot, or on the top or tip of the toe and they should be treated quickly to avoid infection, which in the worst case scenario can lead to gangrene or the death of tissue.

Shabir discusses the common causes for leg ulcers in his article, linked below, and they include circulatory problems, diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.  Conventionally, leg ulcer treatments usually involve a medical professional cutting out the diseased tissue and any callused skin, which will be covered with a non-sticky dressing, often infused with an antibiotic in case the leg ulcer is infected, but although this form of dressing will help to keep the wound clean, it does not accelerate healing time, which can take approximately twelve weeks.

Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel is formulated combining 80% Antibacterial Honey with natural waxes and oils to provide a high viscosity gel that is easy to apply directly onto the ulcer, which should then be covered with a plain dressing, allowing three separate actions to take place.  Those three actions are to cleanse, to heal and to protect, which it does extraordinarily well.

I want to stay with wound healing for the moment, but most specifically I mentioned above that Fulvic Face Cream had wound-healing properties and of course that is also true of Fulvic Body Lotion.  I really don’t need to tell you that this is my favourite body lotion because I have written that often enough, but what I will tell you is that a friend fell off his bike and his legs were a mess, so I bequeathed him a tube of Fulvic Body Lotion after he had tried all the usual suspects, which failed to deliver on the promise to hydrate and heal his skin.  So, let’s drop the price of Fulvic Body Lotion from £20 to £17, in celebration of a product that delivered on promise.  In three days.
Fulvic Body Lotion £17 for 200 ml (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 June)

The final fling.  When we launched Dermalect Cosmeceuticals in the UK, Self-Esteem Beauty Sleep Serum, Smooth Upper Lip Professional and Runway Ready Luxury Foot Treatment were the three bestselling products, and two or three years on, they are still the three bestselling products.  A fling is a fling, and if we are going to do a fling, it has to be a fabulous fling and because Runway Ready Luxury Foot Treatment (103 ml) is a fabulous product, we will send it to you as a gift, which is worth £25, when you buy any product from the Dermelect range. This is a limited edition offer and if the gift fails to go into your basket, that will mean the offer is over. Amen.

Finally, a song to sing, which is dedicated to all those who have been undermined by friends, because there are many of us who have chosen to follow the sun.

With love, as always.
