Weekend Read 14 October 2023

And it’s here.  So, let’s go straight in because Dr Nenninger’s Triple Flu Defense for the 2023-2024 flu season has now arrived.  It remains one of our bestselling seasonal products and its following grows each year, which really doesn’t surprise me because as far as I am aware, this is the only targeted homeopathic medicine which is adjusted each season for optimal defence.

Every year, there are many seasonal viruses which continually mutate to form new strains.  Flu strains present distinct symptoms, which is why viruses look different each year.  These new strains challenge our immune system and in order to help protect ourselves from seasonal viruses, as well as respiratory and stomach flu, it is important to re-formulate Triple Flu Defense each year based upon current research and data.  As such, Triple Flu Defense helps to target current strains and it also helps to alleviate symptoms.  It is fast-acting, it is natural, there are no side effects, there is no drowsiness and there are no harmful additives.

In its correct dosage, it is suitable for all ages and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Triple Flu Defense as an adjunct to immunity supplementation, which comes next.  We have received so much anecdotal evidence over the years and we know it works.  Sure, there may be a few exceptions, I have to caveat that eventuality, but in its two modes, protection and maintenance, I honestly don’t believe anything comes close to the efficacy of this simple liquid formulation in its genre.  If there is a genre, because I think Triple Flu stands alone.  So does Shabir.
Triple Flu Defense for the 2023-2024 Flu Season by Dr Nenninger £30 for 30 ml

The mission at this time of year is always the same, the protection of our immune system as we approach the winter months.  I think it is important to take a pragmatic stance here and although we are each different and we each have different needs, we have been recommending Daily Immunity for the longest time as this is the supplement that Shabir formulated to help prime our immune system and he loaded it with ingredients such as Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D3 and Astragalus.

Astragalus is a powerful and safe herb which is known to enhance white blood cells and interferon, which are vital for immunity.  The formulation also includes Oregano, which is a potent antimicrobial with anti-catarrhal properties and because it also helps to protect the body from seasonal infections, we recommend taking Daily Immunity until the first day of spring at the very least.  And because these things really matter, I am reducing the price of Daily Immunity across the weekend as it drops from £29 to £26.  I suppose this could be another one of those stash happenings.  A rather important supercharged stash happening I feel.

If we are to prime our bodies for the winter months, then it would seem to be a good idea to optimise and support our immune system with Cleavers, which is a detoxifying agent.  Cleavers is thought to have the ability to move, drain and filter cellular waste out of the body by helping to stimulate white blood cells that engulf bacteria and viruses.  It is known that Cleavers is an excellent diuretic, but it is also used to help alleviate inflammatory skin concerns such as psoriasis and eczema.

Staying within the immunity remit, we believe that Cleavers is one of those supplements that you just need to take for one month, so if we are going to do it, then we may as well do it now.  Just to be clear, you can take this supplement on an ongoing basis and it is perfectly safe to do so, but we don’t consider that necessary if we are just talking about immunity.  Alleviating inflammatory skin concerns is another matter entirely and we also recommend Cleavers to help support the lymphatic system, so with all of that said, I am dropping the price of Cleavers from £18.60 to £16.  Also across the weekend.
VH Editorial: The Lymphatic System; Cleavers by Viridian Nutrition £16 for 90 Capsules (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 15 October)

And as one thing leads to another, I want to continue talking about eczema.  There are many different forms of eczema and venous eczema, also referred to as varicose or stasis eczema, is the name given to a type of eczema on the lower leg.  Venous eczema occurs when valves in the leg veins do not work properly, reducing drainage of blood from the legs.  This leads to an increase of pressure inside the leg veins which, in turn, causes damage to the skin with the likely cause due to the increase in pressure pushing blood and blood products from the veins into the surrounding tissue.  This triggers skin inflammation.

Venous eczema can be very itchy and it is often accompanied by the swelling of the legs, which is often attributed to the presence of varicose and spider veins.  As far as supplementation is concerned, we recommend Diosmin Plus because as we age our veins get narrower, they are more fragile and the valves within these veins tend to lose their elasticity.  This can lead to impeded blood flow and enlarged veins, including varicose veins.

I absolutely know that I wrote about Diosmin Plus a couple of weeks ago, but I didn’t write about it in this context, so we go again because venous eczema is a tremendously common concern which needs to be addressed.  And I will address that issue by dropping the price of Diosmin Plus from £28 to £25 once more.  I further recommend trying Hope’s Relief Intensive Dry Skin Rescue Cream, a topical product that helps to soothe and calm inflamed skin and, most importantly, helps stop that dreadful itching, which can drive you round the bend.  Been there.
VH Editorial: A Natural Remedy For Varicose Veins, Spider Veins, Haemorrhoids And Poor Circulation; Diosmin Plus £25 for 60 Capsules; Intensive Dry Skin Rescue Cream £16 for 60 grams (drops from £18.99) (offers end at midnight BST, Sunday 15 October)

Continuing the theme, in a way, various studies have indicated that the consumption of oily fish, ideally on a daily basis, can help to reduce the symptoms of most inflammatory skin concerns, however studies have also indicated that our dietary intake of oily fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids is insufficient for most of us.  The issue here is that our diets tend to be very high in Omega 6 fatty acids derived from vegetable oils, eggs, poultry, cereals, nuts and wholegrain bread.  These Omega 6 fatty acids are converted into inflammatory molecules within our bodies, which can create a problem because an abundance of Omega 6 can suppress the immune system and may also lead to other health concerns, such as arthritis.

We need to create a balance and we can achieve that balance by increasing our dietary intake of oily fish.  We also need to use the cleanest and most utilised form of Omega, such as Krill Oil, for that intake.  The benefits of Krill Oil are numerous and Shabir has outlined many of these benefits in his article linked below.  He also looks at the difference between fish oil and krill oil, and there is a difference.  So, as I refer you to Shabir’s article, let me just say that I am dropping the price of Neubria’s Krill Oil from £29.99 to £25 whilst stocks last.  And if you are vegan, we recommend Echiomega, which also drops in price from £13.99 to £11.99.

I want to talk about nausea and most specifically I want to throw the focus on feeling nauseous after eating, which happens to so many of us.  There are many potential reasons for feeling nauseous and all too often this is accompanied by bloating, so let’s take a look.  One of the most common problems is that most of us don’t chew sufficiently and this can slow the whole digestive process.  Digestion begins in the mouth as the salivary enzymes break down food and chewing insufficiently often means that your body does not receive all the nutrients within the food you are eating.  So chew.  Please.

There are of course other issues here and they include the ratio of good and bad bacteria being out of balance, for which we recommend Mega Probio.  Another issue is that we do not eat sufficient fibre, which can lead to a variety of digestive problems.  Fibre is the key to healthy digestion and regular bowel movements and a lack of fibre very often leads to constipation, which allows toxins to be re-absorbed into the bloodstream resulting in inflammation, fatigue, nausea and cramping.  Here we recommend Complete Fibre Cleanse so, Shabir will explain the multiple benefits in his article linked below, and I will take the price of Complete Fibre Cleanse down to £22 from £24.

Short and sweet.  Nutriburst’s Ashwagandha KSM-66 Gummies provide 300 mg of Ashwagandha root per serving and other ingredients include Iodine and Pantothenic Acid to help reduce tiredness and anxiety.  Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is a powerful Ayurvedic herb known for its ability to help decrease stress, increase energy levels and balance blood sugar.  These gummies are sugar-free, gluten-free, alcohol-free and vegan and across this weekend they drop in price from £21.99 to £17.50.  And that is that.

Right, let’s do an update and the first thing I want to do is to thank those of you who supported TEMPLESPA and ourselves as we released the Repose Duo Pack last weekend.  The support was so appreciated because it included a donation to Dreams Come True, a national children’s charity who exist to deliver dreams to children who have it tough.  So, this is just to say that the Repose Duo is available throughout the month of October and my apologies to our international customers who were unable to order because the backend of our site decided to have a technical blip across the weekend.  It is all fixed now.  Actually, it was fixed on Monday.

Skincare.  As so many of you know, we have always kept our curation of skincare pretty tight.  There are several reasons for doing this, but primarily we have always believed that the brands we support demonstrate the very best products for our skin health and I see no point in continually introducing skincare brands for the sake of it.  It leads to confusion, but more than that if I continually introduce you to new skincare brands, it will erode the trust we have in the brands we love and support, and I just won’t do that.  We are enough.  We have enough.  And we have Lixirskin.

So, let’s celebrate LixirSkin and I am going to do so by introducing you to the Good Skin System.  Including three must-have and multi-tasking heroes from the range, all three products work seamlessly to make a difference to your skin, without overloading it.  Those three products are Vitamin C Paste (50 ml), Electrogel Cleanser (100 ml) and Universal Emulsion (100 ml).  When we launched LixirSkin, for and on behalf of Dr Colette Haydon, we launched on a platform of simplicity because skincare shouldn’t be complicated.  And this is very simple too, the Good Skin System is £78, but it has a product value of £111.  Needless to say, this is a limited edition offer.

Seasonal gifts.  We are halfway through October, so I’m giving myself permission to write about crackers and I’m going to do so because this particular cracker is much-loved, we sell out of them each year and I am of course talking about the Fabulous Cracker from Margaret Dabbs.  Inside each cracker you will find a Nourishing Nail & Cuticle Serum Pen (15 ml), which is a nail and cuticle treatment to help keep fungal infections, ridges and splitting at bay.  You don’t need me to tell you that this would be a great stocking filler, but you do need me to tell that I am taking the price down of the Fabulous Cracker from £13 to £10, whilst stock lasts.
Fabulous Cracker by Margaret Dabbs £10 (whilst stock lasts)

Staying with Margaret Dabbs and staying with crackers, I would just like to say that the set of six luxurious, traditional, handmade Christmas crackers is also available.  The crackers are presented in a bespoke box and each cracker includes one Margaret Dabbs product, and although I am unable to tell you what that product will be, you will find a list of the products that may be included on the product page.  Nothing to add, other than to say I am dropping the price of this set from £66 to £60, whilst stock lasts.

I think I have included a seasonal gift from TEMPLESPA in most of the recent Weekend Reads, so I will continue.  And I will continue by telling you about Fresh Start, which is a Groom & Go Essentials three piece gift set for men who are always on the go.  The set includes Stubble Trouble (50 ml), a luxury shaving gel, Seize The Day (50 ml), a power shower gel made with Lemon, Juniper, Lime and Bergamot, and Peace Be Still (50 ml), a soothing, lightweight moisturiser.  And it’s all beautifully packaged, of course.  This is TEMPLESPA.

One more from TEMPLESPA, and it’s a reed diffuser.  Keep The Peace Diffuser is loaded with calming Mediterranean essential oils of Lavender, Geranium, Chamomile, Frankincense and Patchouli.  This tranquil blend will help transform the space around you and can be used anywhere in your home to promote quiet and relaxation, including your bedroom.  Lara has declared it as being her favourite diffuser ever, which is all rather well except I don’t recall giving it to her, and neither does Shabir.  I suppose she just took it off the shelf.  For testing purposes.

Finally, last weekend I wrote about the oversized Hyaluronic Acid which was a limited edition offer and so I am going to do another one of those oversized offers today.  And I am doing it with Niacinamide Serum, which means that you will receive 45 ml of Niacinamide Serum for the price of 30 ml, which is £12.  I do need to reiterate that this is a limited edition offer and if it fails to go into your basket, that will mean that the offer is over.  And over is over.

Into the Saturday only treat, and with every order placed for £35 and above, excluding p&p, we will automatically include the Pink Salt Conditioniser (50 ml)* from Sea Magik.  This follows through from last weekend’s gift which was the Pink Salt Shampoo.  I still don’t know why it is called a conditioniser and not a conditioner and I guess I never will, but never mind that, the product details are below.

We are deeply shocked by the devastating events inflicted on all innocent people in recent days.  There are no words to describe the abject sadness and horror we are feeling.  Let us come together, as we so often do, with our love, thoughts and strength for all who are affected.

This song.  From 1963.
