Weekend Read 12 August 2023

Weekend Read 12 August 2023

Good morning and as we come together once again can we please talk about being sensitive, mostly because being highly sensitive is so often misconstrued.  It is often thought that sensitive people are weak and inadequate, but that is far from the truth and because I received so many emails on this subject last weekend, I think we should look at this.  I’m happy to lead with this because it is thought that one in three of us are highly sensitive, so we need to shatter the myth that being sensitive is a weakness, because it isn’t.

I don’t think I can do any better than refer you to a book, recommended to me last weekend in one of your emails, which I have now read.  It takes an in-depth look at highly sensitive people and it also throws the spotlight on how Bruce Springsteen embraced his own sensitivity after episodes of depression, which are well documented.  His acute sensitivity is his gift, which is more than obvious if you listen to the words of his songs.  And perhaps that is the reason I so often share his music because it talks to me.  It talks to millions of us.

Referencing the findings of this book, it is cited that highly sensitive people have many distinct gifts, which should be celebrated and acknowledged and once that is understood and accepted, the world looks a very different place for those who struggle with their innate sensitivity.  At this point I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Vicky, who is one of us and shared this book, not only with me, but now with each of you.  There are those books that can help change our lives, and I believe this to be one of them.
Sensitive: The Power Of A Thoughtful Mind In An Overwhelming World by Jenn Granneman and Andre Solo

There are many occasions when I leave my thoughts until the end of a newsletter because it is really difficult to make that switch from the emotional to the factual, namely products.  Except this week I am, once again, hugely emotional about a product and that product is of course Hyaluronic Acid Capsules, the new formulation.  I am often overwhelmed by your response and last weekend was no exception when I told you that Shabir had been investigating how to increase HA’s absorption from the gut into the bloodstream, which resulted in the inclusion of BioPerine® into the formulation.

In case you missed it, BioPerine® is a patented, black pepper concentrate standardised to contain Piperine, the active compound of black pepper.  Piperine boosts HA absorption by hundreds, if not thousands of times, and it does so in a way that makes a huge difference to the efficacy of HA, which is crucially important and you absolutely recognised that, for which I thank you.  And in that recognition, another celebration with more emotion attached and it comes in the shape of a Fulvic treat, so when you buy HA Capsules, we will automatically gift you with Fulvic Acid Conditioner (60 ml) with a suggestion that you use it as a hair mask. Just leave it on for about twenty minutes.  And rinse.

Clearly, my emotions are at the forefront of all that I am writing today, but to a certain extent I think they always are. I know I can become somewhat evangelical about products, but I do so from a place of certainty, a certainty that such products will help to make a positive difference to the majority, which is why we do what we do and nobody can ever buy me.  I am not for sale and nobody can buy their way onto our site or buy words on any given newsletter.  And just perhaps my emotions here stem from a place of protection because, as a consumer, I can see straight the way through the games people play for their sole benefit.  And I think that's far from acceptable.

Anyway, another podium moment in a long line of them, but if I may return to being evangelical, I am totally evangelical about the Fulvic products, which I think is quite obvious.  I totally swear by the efficacy of Fulvic, I always have, but there is an absolute in all of this and that absolute is that we are far from finished with the Fulvic story, because there are more products to be created, it just takes time to bring those products to market.  The other absolute is that if I am using certain products, I want to share that experience with each of you as best I can.

So, let me walk my talk and I have written many times that I spray my face with Fulvic Acid Mist after cleansing and before I use Fulvic Face Cream, dosed or otherwise.  With that said, you would be absolutely right in thinking that I am going to offer you a treat, another Fulvic treat and it goes like this.  If you buy Fulvic Face Cream (60 ml), we will automatically include Fulvic Acid Mist (60 ml), which is worth £12.50 as we support skin health with powerful antioxidants and active ionic minerals which are essential for healthy cell regeneration.  Researched thoroughly. Studied extensively.  Emotionally charged.  To make that difference.

Let’s talk about supplementation and last weekend I promised that I would continue to follow through on the subject and products that were mentioned in the latest Trinny & Shabir video. So, digging deeper, let’s take a look at Selenium, which came up in their conversation.  Selenium is a trace mineral which was always considered to be an irrelevant nutrient, but in the past three decades scientists have discovered that Selenium is actually a crucial mineral in that it is thought to protect the body against a wide range of damaging diseases.

The research is ongoing, but studies have indicated its role in regulating metabolism, cell manufacture, neutralising damaging free radicals and protecting the body against infection. Furthermore, Selenium is the only trace element that is incorporated into our genetic material and the thyroid gland holds the largest concentration of Selenium of any organ in the body. Three different Selenium-bound proteins are responsible for making the active thyroid hormone available in circulation and is therefore essential for all processes carried out by the thyroid gland, including metabolism, normal growth and development.

There is a link between thyroid hormones and all other hormones, so it follows that thyroid hormone deficiencies affect most other hormonal glands in the body.  There is much more to say on this subject, so I am going to refer you to Shabir’s in-depth look at the benefits of Selenium supplementation, together with his recommended product, which is Super Selenium Complex.  May I also add here that there have been several important studies carried out in the US and Finland recently, with a body of evidence showing the protective effect of Selenium against cell mutation. Such studies are somewhat critical if we are to reinforce what is already known.

As most of you know, Trinny and Shabir were talking about gut health on their recent video, and we can’t emphasise enough how important it is to take probiotics.  And because we believe that Mega Probiotic ND is a bit of a superstar, and because I didn’t write about it last weekend, I am writing about it this weekend.  Except I don’t really need to tell you about its attributes other than to say that it really does work for most of us.  Based upon that fact, I am taking the price of Mega Probiotic ND down from £22 to £19 across the weekend.  Core supplementation.  We believe.

Invariably, whenever we talk about gut health we talk about constipation, which affects so many of us, but if we can get specific it is mostly women who suffer from constipation whenever they are away from home.  It’s a thing, it really is and I know that to be true because we receive so many emails about this and I can totally relate.  I’m not sure how much I buy into the explanation that we become more stressed when we are away from home, but travel constipation could be associated with a change of routine and sleep disruptions, which probably makes more sense to me.

So, don’t leave home without your probiotics is what I say and I will say the same about digestive enzymes, which really do make a difference for so many of us.  With all of that said, I have always believed we should cleanse our colons at least two or three times a year, it’s just a good thing to do, most especially if you tend to have a sluggish gut.  No new product here, just a trusted and reliable supplement which we have recommended for the longest time.  Super Cleanse for Colon helps to stimulate colon cleansing safely and effectively, which is all that really matters here.
Digest Complete by Enzymedica £26 for 90 Capsules (drops from £28.88 whilst stock lasts); Super Cleanse For Colon by Natures Secret £20 for 100 Tablets (drops from £22 whilst stock lasts)

Right, let’s move on and as we do so I will tell you that Shabir has just written an article about hearing loss, a common disorder.  It is not a very long article and it will probably take two or three minutes to read, but the important thing here is that several studies have conclusively cited that Omega-3 fatty acids have a direct impact on helping to reduce hearing loss.  I will leave you to read the article, where Shabir looks at two of those studies, so all that is left is for me to tell you that he recommends Bare Biology’s Life and Soul Omega-3 Fish Oil Daily Capsules to help support hearing loss and my role here is to drop the price from £31.95 to £27.95.
VH Editorial: Loss Of Hearing And Omega-3’s; Life and Soul Omega-3 Fish Oil Daily Capsules by Bare Biology £27.95 for 60 Capsules (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 13 August)

Another article from Shabir, this time it throws the focus on sugar cravings, where he takes a look at why we crave sugar, the causes for sugar craving and what we can do about it.  In this instance Shabir recommends KetoLiving Sugar Control, a supplement containing Chromium, Garcinia, and Gymnema which all work in synergy to maintain healthy blood glucose levels. Those nutrients are blended with Berberine, a natural compound obtained from Barberry HCI, which in turn is a bioactive compound which helps to curb sugar cravings, whilst enhancing metabolic activity.  It also helps to control healthy weight.  In time.

It remains of vital importance to say that we must allow at least 28 days for a supplement to really kick in.  In some instances it can take longer and, conversely, in other instances an improvement may be noted within a few days, we are all different and, in this scenario, our metabolic rates can differ significantly, which of course has an impact, an inevitable impact.  So, with Shabir’s article linked below, we are going to do another price drop as KetoLiving Sugar Control drops in price from £29.95 to £24 across the weekend.  Section over.

Let’s return to skincare and we do so by talking about chin acne and we need to talk about chin acne because according to a 2018 review of studies in the Journal of Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigative Dermatology, that was a significant increase in adults suffering from chin acne, and there still is.  There are many reasons why chin acne occurs, but hormonal changes and stress are thought to be causal.  When we are stressed the adrenals produce vast quantities of cortisol, the stress hormone, and other inflammatory hormones.  So, let’s take a look at this, as obviously we need to lower our stress levels and we firstly do so with supplementation.

Magnolia Rhodiola Complex is our bestselling supplement for stress and anxiety, so that would be our first recommendation.  As far as topical solutions go, Thyme Out Face & Body Wash is a gentle, yet powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-fungal solution for blemished or compromised skin issues, including rashes.  We also recommend Niacinamide Serum (Vitamin B3), which is blended with Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5) as it helps to regulate oil production, supporting blemished-prone skin.  There we are, three products working synergistically to help resolve chin acne.
VH Editorial: Tips To Prevent Chin Acne; Magnolia Rhodiola Complex £28 for 60 Capsules; Thyme Out Face & Body Wash £18 for 201 ml; Niacinamide Serum by Garden of Wisdom for VH £12 for 30 ml (no alcohol, no silicones)

And if we are talking about serums, which we just were, then let’s do another one of those oversized serum offers where you will receive 45 ml for the price of 30 ml.  So, C-Deep Vitamin C Serum penetrates deeper than comparable formulations as it uses Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, which is non-irritating, super-lightweight and easily absorbed by the skin.  It is 100% stable, meaning that it will not break down over time like many Vitamin C creams and serums.  It is also suitable for sensitive skin, which is a rather important factor if your skin reacts to other forms of Vitamin C, which mine does.  Perhaps I should call this the super-sensitive newsletter.  It fits.

Because we are in the midst of the holiday season, you may wish to take Breath of Life away with you. This aromatherapy inhalation essence has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties to help ward off germs and ease breathing for the moments you feel congested.  As a travel companion it helps to combat tiredness on long journeys, which really does help, most especially if you are flying long-haul.  One of life’s little saviours.
Breath of Life by Temple Spa £12 for 10 ml

The final fling.  Aurelia’s Miracle Cleanser is the hero product of the brand, and it is suitable for all skin types, with the exception of those who are allergic to essential oils.  It effectively removes make-up and impurities by combining probiotic and peptide technologies and is accompanied by Aurelia’s anti-bacterial bamboo muslin cloth that helps buff away dead skin cells. The price of Miracle Cleanser (50 ml) is £24, but I’m dropping that down to £16, which is a saving of £8.  This is a limited offer and once it's gone, it really is gone.  Whenever that may be.
Miracle Cleanser by Aurelia London £16 for 50 ml (whilst stock lasts)

And into the Saturday only treat we go, and with every order placed for £35 or above, excluding p&p, we will include a gift for the sun.  This could be one of several suncare products we have to share with you, so I hope you enjoy using whichever product you receive.  I’m linking below our Summer Essentials curation, which doesn’t necessarily correlate with the gifts, but I’ve done it anyway and I am ending this newsletter with a few short words below.  There is no need to write anything else.
Summer Essentials

We live in a world of illusion where so much is taken at face value because the masters of manipulation wish it to be that way. Until the moment it all falls apart.  And they are exposed.
