October Newsletter 2011
Welcome to the October newsletter where my head is spinning because of the volume of new products that I need to tell you about. We take a look at some stunning new supplements, a completely bonkers tool that I’ve fallen head over heels in love with, a range of candles that I would willingly kill for and the latest products releases from Temple Spa, This Works and Cetaphil. Additionally, we catch up with the VH Editorial Team, the Beauty Bible girls and we are on countdown to the release of NUDE’s amazing Advanced Cellular Renewal Moisturiser plus I have an incredible NUDE treat to tell you about. So after Shabir’s appearance on The Podium in last month’s newsletter, I’m giving him ‘top spot’ (I must have a temperature!) with the release of the first new supplement this month, which is ground-breaking, innovative and extraordinarily pioneering and later in the newsletter I will write a section all about anti-ageing and the supplements we should be taking. Let’s go:
For the past decade, sales of supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin have literally hit the roof and although some people report benefits, there are many who don’t experience any benefit at all. Pain relief to help ease the reduction of stiffness in joints is paramount for an ever-increasing percentage of people and one of the most promising recent discoveries in the battle against joint and arthritic pain is Natural Egg Shell Membrane (NEM). NEM is the thin membrane that lies between the egg shell and egg white and it contains proteins that may help repair the cartilage network in between the bones. It is the degradation of this cartilage that causes the release of acids, such as uric acid, which subsequently triggers pain and stiffness.
Superior Joints has been formulated to help promote flexibility, strength, mobility and cushioning and aside from NEM it contains Ginger, Turmeric, Tart Cherries, HA and Astaxanthin. At this point I am not going to write reams about the research and development behind this product, the science or the individual ingredients because Shabir has already done it for me in a new editorial feature. All I will say is that this is a must-read article and a must-take supplement if you suffer from arthritis and joint pain. I get really excited about ‘next generation’ supplementation and Superior Joints truly is in a league of its own in that respect, which is just the way we like it of course!
Several weeks ago one of the weirdest ever products landed on my desk. I couldn’t make head or tail of what it was when I opened it, all I knew was that it looked completely bonkers and on that note alone I was intrigued. Upon further examination I discovered it was a sculpting facial massager, I started to use it and within the first 30 seconds I knew I had to have it and that all of you should have one too.
The first thing I need to do is introduce you to the legendary Sarah Chapman, who has just been voted the ‘Best Skin-Transforming Facialist’ in Harper’s Bazaar and this is the girl that most of the beauty editors flock to, when they can actually manage to get an appointment. Skin transformation is high on the agenda for most of us and Sarah’s Facialift mimics the unique fast tapping, pinching and knuckling of her facial massage. The Facialift massager, with its unique eight heads and 48 massaging nodules, helps reshape, refine and tone the contours of the face, releasing tension in the jaw and aiding lymphatic drainage, whilst dramatically (honestly!) lifting and sculpting as you push this tool across the face.
Now, you will need to read this next part carefully because I wouldn’t want you to miss out on a big treat. Whilst The Facialift can be used on dry skin, it is far more beneficial if you use it with facial oil. So step up ‘Overnight Facial’ from Sarah Chapman’s Skinesis range because the first 100 people to buy The Facialift will receive a 5 ml bottle of Overnight Facial, which is worth £15 and will help enhance the rejuvenating, skin-plumping effects on the face. It contains a potent cocktail of vitamins, peptides, omega oils, skin brighteners, jasmine and rose, so having said that, I will leave the final word to a VH Addict who has been using The Facialift: ‘The difference in my jowls and neck in one week is nothing short of a miracle’. We love miracles round here and I absolutely agree with her!
I like to be neat, so having rolled our faces to sculpted glory, let’s move on to where we rest our heads at night. It is a well-known fact that sleep plays an important role in the beauty bid for youthful skin because it is during the night the skin can repair itself and should be allowed to breathe. Much has been written about sleeping on natural silk pillowcases and so please allow me to introduce you to the Original 100% natural silk pillowcase, SilkSkin.
Sleeping on a SilkSkin pillowcase will help prevent your face and hair from drying out and helps protect the skin from developing more lines or deeper creases. As most of us now tend to use a facial oil or serum at night, we need to ensure that we gain the most benefit from these products and sleeping on natural silk will help lock the moisture in and ensure that it stays on your skin. Cotton and man-made fibres tend to dry the skin out and soak up the moisture that should be seeping into our skin, not the pillowcase. Silk is also good for helping to prevent ‘bed head’ as it allows hair to glide across the pillowcase without it getting caught, most especially if you tend to toss and turn whilst sleeping and it is brilliant for helping to prevent morning frizz.
Having slept on a SilkSkin pillowcase for several weeks, I really don’t think that I could go back to my cotton pillowcases; seriously it makes that much difference. I used to wake up with a line going down the left-hand side of my face (smart!), but that doesn’t happen anymore. So it’s a great big love for SilkSkin pillowcases and I also completely adore SilkSkin’s Luxury Eye Mask, which is filled with organic lavender. It is perfect for sensitive eyes and irritations, it smells completely divine and I’ve rather taken to putting my eye cream on and putting on the eye mask on top. The next time I do a long haul flight, this is definitely coming with me and I also highly recommend it if you suffer from stress, tension, headaches or insomnia.
When I first started to use the pillowcase and the eye mask, I had a touch of guilt and thought I was being far too indulgent, but that feeling rapidly went within about two minutes and I now consider both of them to be an integral part of my anti-ageing regime and if Shabir’s eyes start rolling to heaven as he reads this, I really don’t care. A girl has to do what a girl has to do. Join me!
Ageing is a multi-faceted process and as such we need to take a multi-faceted approach to supplementation. If there was just one ‘magic bullet’ that did everything, it would be an easy solution, but instead the global market is flooded with supplements claiming any number of things. If you read this newsletter on a regular basis, then you will know that I will always tell you when I have changed my own anti-ageing supplement regime, which falls in line with the latest research, development and clinical studies. The very last thing I want any of you to do is to overload yourselves with a load of pills to take morning, noon and night that are not essential, so for the sake of clarity these are our current recommendations and this is what I’m taking:
Hyaluronic Acid (HA): Shabir and I both firmly believe that this is the most crucial of all anti-ageing supplements and if you only take one anti-ageing supplement, it should be HA. I’ve been taking it for approximately nine years and without it I am sure my face may well have fallen to my knees by now! Scientific studies have shown that HA improves skin hydration, stimulates collagen production, maintains skin elasticity, cushions joint and nerve tissues, maintains the fluid in eye tissue, which may help protect against numerous eye concerns. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. My adoration for HA is extraordinarily well documented, so I am saying nothing more on the subject in this newsletter other than it is our anti-ageing hero of all time!
Skin Restoring Ceramides: I wrote about Skin Restoring Ceramides several months ago, so if you missed the launch of this supplement, please click here to read all about it. The bottom line is that as we age, the body’s ability to synthesize ceramides declines, which leads to the degradation and drying of the skin. The role of Skin Restoring Ceramides is pretty simplistic; by taking this oral supplementation daily, a complete re-hydration of stubbornly dry, flaky skin is possible within 90 days, together with the elimination of cracked and itchy skin. Completely wonderful for anybody suffering from compromised skin conditions, my eyes nearly fell out of my head when I realised that my ‘crocodile legs’ had completely disappeared. Yes, I still moisturise my skin, but I promise you will not believe the results if you take this supplement. It takes approximately four weeks for newly formed skin cells to migrate to the outer layers of skin, but the feedback we are getting is that it totally transforms the skin sooner. We are each different, so I’m not really too bothered about the length of time it takes, all I know is that I’m up for positive transformation and this delivers in a major way.
Astaxanthin: This is the anti-ageing antioxidant you may not have heard of until now, but should be taking. Antioxidants play an important role in protecting the skin and body and have become the buzz word in supplements and skincare. There is a whole load of hype around antioxidants and the market is flooded with low-grade supplements with inflated prices. So what are antioxidants? Which antioxidant is powerful and what are the dietary sources of antioxidants. Shabir has taken a look at the ‘antioxidant phenomenon’ and has written an article, which is all rather fabulous because it means I don’t have to do it! So do take time to read it because I’m just not up for free radicals ravaging my body, my glands and my skin thank you!
One of my biggest disappointments is that I am surrounded by some of the most gorgeous products in the world and I can’t use any of them because they contain essential oils and as most of you know, I am highly allergic to these oils. If the wind is blowing in the right direction I can sometimes get away with having a beautifully scented bath, but those moments are far and few between, so imagine my complete delight when Neom entered my life.
Neom have created the most incredibly powerful range of home fragrance products I have ever used, and trust me I am a complete candle expert and have tested virtually every brand on the market. The story started for me approximately a year ago when I received a selection of Neom’s Travel Candles as a gift and started to burn them. Within minutes the entire room was flooded with the most glorious scent and upon researching further, I discovered that each of Neom’s products have been specifically formulated to work as treatments, making you feel more relaxed and in my case a whole lot happier because I had found the holy grail of an aromatherapy treatment without being rushed to A&E!
It is very difficult for me not to write reams about Neom because it is not often that a brand comes along that I wish I owned myself, but Neom falls into that category. Nicola Elliott, I applaud you for creating a range I can only describe as heaven on earth. So forget everything you know about candles, forget everything you know about bath oils and body products because from cult beauty-editor favourite candles to vitamin-packed anti-ageing body oils, these products are truly sensational, they are in a league of their own and you really need to discover them for yourself.
Because I love each of the fragrances, it is really difficult to choose three of my favourites, but if I had to they would be Complete Bliss (Moroccan Blush Rose), Real Luxury (Lavender, Jasmine and Brazilian Rosewood) and Inspiration (Violet, Chamomile and Cedarwood). So Nicola please count me in as an avid fan and that would be alongside Kylie who burns Revitalise before going on stage, Sienna who orders in Complete Bliss to burn at her parties and Kate Moss who uses Real Luxury.
That said, just a few more things: The Travel Candles are really cute and they are brilliant if you burn each one to discover which scent is your particular favourite. They are ideal for smaller rooms such as bathrooms and a selection of the Travel Candles makes an amazing gift and I know all about that because I’ve been gifted twice with the entire collection.
The larger candles really are treatments in their own right and each time I light one of them I feel like I am walking into a beautifully scented spa. I am incredibly envious of those of you who are able to burn the candles and use the Bath Oils simultaneously, because I would give anything to be able to bathe in Real Luxury as this is the seriously pampering jewel in the Neom crown. A girl can only dream, so I shall double up the candles I burn, place Reed Diffusers in every single room and wallow in the magnificence that is Neom.
One very last thing, the first 30 people to spend £32 or more on any Neom products will receive a Real Luxury Travel Set, which includes an Organic Body Wash and Lotion.
I’m actually laughing to myself at this point (madness looms on the horizon!) because I know that it doesn’t matter where I put this section on the newsletter, you will all find it, most of you will love it and I’m expecting that the VH’ers alone will completely demolish the stock of the next thing I am going to write about. Add to that the fact that you are the first in the world to know about it and we have all the ingredients for a NUDE Skincare meltdown, so read carefully please:
NUDE’s Replenishing Night Oil (RNO) is legendary in so many ways, not least because earlier this year it won the highest ever score for any product in 15 years of Beauty Bible testing. So many of you are now hooked on RNO, that I’ve included 5 ml samples (each worth £14) on ’60 Seconds’ a couple of times and the rest really is history and is well recorded on virtually every single newsletter I’ve written since May. If you have read what I’ve been writing about NUDE, you will also know that I believe that NUDE’s Cleansing Facial Oil is the holy grail of all cleansers and although each of us have differing expectations from a cleanser, this just does it for me.
The Radiance Collection: I need you to read this very s-l-o-w-l-y because I don’t want you to have a shock or be sick, but next week NUDE are launching The Radiance Collection, which is a full sized 15 ml bottle of Replenishing Night Oil and a full sized 100 ml bottle of Cleansing Facial Oil. If you were to buy them separately, the retail value of these two products would be £68 (RNO is £44 and Cleansing Facial Oil is £24), but if you buy The Radiance Collection you get both products for £49, so you save £19, or put another way, you are paying just £5 for the Cleansing Facial Oil. Please note that this is a Limited Edition, at the time of writing this newsletter The Radiance Collection is on pre-order only, but we expect to ship the product on or around 5 October, so get your fingers on that keyboard before it’s just too late!!
Advanced Cellular Renewal Moisturiser (ACRM): On the September newsletter I wrote about the global exclusive pre-launch of ACRM together with comments from the VH Testing team. If you missed it, then please click here to read all about it. I will just say that since writing that newsletter, we are continuing to get feedback from our testers who have now used ACRM for about a month and several of them are giving it 10/10, which I thought they would because this is another stunning product from the NUDE Skincare camp. The official launch is 18 October, so if you love NUDE Skincare, make sure you are on the wait list because then you will become amongst the first in the world to receive and use ACRM and trust me, you will love me for it!
Take Three Products
In last month’s newsletter, I invited each of you to submit three of your favourite VH products and the reasons why you loved them so much. We got flooded! So I would like to thank everybody who took the time to mail us and each month I will publish one of your emails on the newsletter. If you would like to participate then please send your emails to email@example.com with the heading ‘Take Three Products’ and I will send a ‘Care Package’ if your email is published. So this month a Care Package is on the way to Brian Neal – yes girls, I’ve chosen a boy, so congratulations Brian and here are Brian’s three favourites:
Nail Magic: This is an amazing nail product which my wife and two daughters recommend to all their friends and family. It is the only product (and they have tried hundreds) that actually gives you strong beautiful nails.
Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion: This is wonderful for calming red sore skin and reduces spots.
Eye slices: A fantastic product, they really work and they allow us to take time out in our busy lives to rest and feel relaxed.
DLux 3000 and DLux Pregnancy
Vitamin D aids calcium absorption and is fundamental for maintaining a healthy immune system and healthy teeth and bones. I have often written about the importance of taking Vitamin D, so just to underline how crucial this vitamin is, I am replicating part of a far larger study carried out by Oliver Gillie, director of the Health Research Forum and will follow this with two new products from Better You:
‘Almost everyone in Europe gets insufficient vitamin D because the sun is not strong enough in winter to make any in the skin. People in Britain have particularly low levels of the sunshine vitamin because of our cloudy summer climate. Taking a regular vitamin D supplement of at least 1000 IUs per day, preferably more, will restore an optimum level in the blood with a substantial improvement in health and reduction in risks of future disease’
DLux 3000: This higher dosage daily vitamin D spray has just been released. Each spray delivers 3000 IU of vitamin D3, the most bio-available form, in a convenient oral spray. Each bottle contains 100 measured daily doses, delivering 3000 IU in every spray. It has a natural peppermint oil flavour and should be sprayed under the tongue.
DLux Pregnancy: Rich in vitamins D3, B1, B6 and essential Folic Acid, this is a daily nutritional oral spray, which is convenient, easy to use and tastes great. It can be taken throughout pregnancy and during breast feeding. Each 25 ml bottle contains 32 days’ supply and each daily dose consists of five simple sprays over the course of a single day. When sprayed into the mouth, the fine, balanced spray delivers the nutrient efficiently. Each dosage delivers the recommended 400 mcg of Folic Acid, an optimal 1000 IU of vitamin D3 and 100% of the recommended daily amount of vitamins B1 and B6.
The VH Testers: Lulu’s Bombshell Body – Hand to Hand Combat Cream
A couple of weeks ago, I put a post on our Facebook page asking for ten people to test a hand cream for me, which was Lulu’s Hand to Hand Combat Cream. Before I write about the results, just to say that if you want to become a VH Tester then you should follow us on Facebook because that it where I will post requests for VH Testers and I wouldn’t want you to miss out. I would like to say a very big thank you to everybody who volunteered and do keep trying if you weren’t successful because I will pick different people each time I need a product to be tested.
Bombshell Body is Lulu’s collection of anti-ageing body products, which she put together with a great team of chemists. Being a perfectionist, Lulu worked with the team sourcing the best possible ingredients and the result is the range of Bombshell Body products. The Hand to Hand Combat Hand Cream has been formulated with Vitamin E, essential fatty oils and Argan Oil. It absorbs quickly and the reason I couldn’t test it myself is because it contains essential oils, so it’s over to the VH Testers.
For the purposes of this trial, we sent the product to ten people, we had nine responses and they all loved it, with the exception of one tester who thought she needed more time to see long-term results, although she said that she was really happy with the immediate effect. Another tester reported that she was using a more expensive brand, but as this was priced more sensibly, she could use it every day without feeling decadent or guilty. Here are some other comments:
It sinks in well, doesn’t leave a residue and my hands feel softer; a must-have product for your handbag; this has really helped the appearance of the back of my hands which were looking a bit crepey and uneven; definitely a repeat purchase; a real delight to use; instant relief from dryness; a real gem; my cuticles are so improved I hardly need to use cuticle cream, which is an added bonus; divine, I found myself smelling my hands; I love this cream, it is all you could wish for in hand cream; wow – I’m really quite impressed with this product.
So the testers loved it and because hands give your age away faster than anything if you don’t look after them, it is vital to use a hand cream that performs well. This does it!
Hand to Hand Combat Cream £13.75 for 75 ml; VH Editorial: Hands Up Baby, Hands Up by Lulu
I love it when Sarah and Jo refresh the Beauty Bible site because it means I can go onto the site, plunder their work, put it on the newsletter and put my feet up at the same time. It’s an added bonus when they have already written about things that I would have written, so I give thanks that they both take Femergy and Sibergin, and I’m blushing slightly at the last couple of lines, but what the heck, fabulous supplements deserve to be recognised and they really do make a difference. Here we go:
We’ve said it before and to be quite honest, we’ll probably say it again after this time … we just couldn’t get through without these two supplements. We’ve both had days when we forgot to take them and felt like rag dolls; fuelled by willpower rather than bubbling with energy, in our usual (preferred) way. With all the fuss about the new film of Allison Pearson’s book ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’, we could offer SJP a bit of advice. Just take Sibergin and Femergy and you’ll be on top of life. These supplements perfectly illustrate why VH deserves its Harper’s Bazaar award as Gill and Shabir sleuth out the highest-quality, most effective supplements anywhere and as we know, that’s what makes the difference.
Just a reminder that with Christmas looming, The Anti-Ageing Beauty Bible makes a truly fabulous gift and we have the only signed copies in the world, which makes me rather happy. You might also want to follow the girls on the VH Editorial Section. This month Sarah and Jo talk about ‘Spa Etiquette’ and it’s Autumn Body Blitz time with Jo.
A couple of years ago I discovered that This Works had formulated a Pillow Spray together with Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage programme and I wanted it there and then, but I wasn’t allowed to have it! Working with Dr Chris Idzikowski, founder and former chairman of the British Sleep Society, the Crowne Plaza developed the Sleep Advantage programme to help their guests improve the quality of their sleep whilst staying in the hotel and Deep Sleep Pillow Spray became a vital element to the success of the initiative.
So after waiting for two years, I am thrilled that This Works have now released the Pillow Spray, which is infused with essential oils of Lavender, Vetivert and Wild Camomile. Just spray your pillow or bed cover before you go to bed with Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and gently inhale the soothing oils. Also available in the This Works sleep range are soothing Lavender and Vetivert bath salts and a Sleep Balm, which a friend tested for me and reported back to say that she absolutely loved dabbing the balm on her pulse points before going to bed. So a trio of fabulous new products from This Works, which I think are rather perfect for Autumn/Winter.
Lack of sleep has become a growing issue over the past few years and with increased demands on our time and rising stress levels, sleep has become a struggle for many of us, so we need all the help we can get. When this next product landed on my desk, I thought it was a really clever idea. SleepPhones, known as pyjamas for your ears, was developed by a family physician to help her patients sleep without drugs and help them fall asleep faster by listening to music with really comfortable, high quality headphones. Aside from helping you fall asleep, SleepPhones can also help drown out noise from loud neighbours and snoring partners too.
These soft headphones come in three colours, black, grey and lavender and will plug into any standard music player, including iPods, MP3 players and CD players. SleepPhones contain thin removable padded speakers and the headband is machine washable. The SleepPhone comes with a Sleep CD with three different tracks; Dreams Across Time, Newport Waves and Deep Sleep White Noise. Each track is 20 minutes in length, but I couldn’t tell you what tracks two and three sound like because I’m asleep before I get to them! Clever product, but a word of caution, please read the instructions carefully and this product should not be used by children or the elderly.
Many of you are familiar with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, which is recommended by dermatologists worldwide for compromised skin conditions. Together with Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion and Cetaphil Moisturising Cream, these products were launched in the UK approximately three years ago and have achieved an enormous following since that time. I remember when I used to bring Cetaphil back from America because it wasn’t available in the UK and every time I am in America, I go into a pharmacy and stare at the massive Cetaphil product range and just wish we could have the whole range here. It may well take another few years before we get the entire range, but Cetaphil have just launched two more products to add to the existing range, so I’m really happy to be writing about them.
Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Wash encapsulates skin-nourishing oils in a soap-free foaming wash that cleanses while also avoiding irritation and drying of the skin. The wash also contains patented Filaggrin technology. Filaggrins are proteins normally found in the outermost layer of healthy skin that help hold it together. In people with atopic dermatitis, research has discovered that filaggrin proteins may be missing or may not function correctly. This body wash contains fillaggrin breakdown products that help restore moisture to the skin in order to help rebuild the damaged skin barrier. Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Wash is recommended for all skin types, including sensitive, dry and eczema prone skin and is suitable for infants and children. Just apply to wet skin and massage into a rich lather that will rinse easily. Apply Cetaphil’s Restoraderm Skin Restoring Moisturiser immediately after bathing.
Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Moisturiser is a creamy moisturiser that absorbs quickly and soothes dry, itchy skin. The skin moisturiser provides long-lasting hydration for atopic skin. Along with patented Filaggrin technology (as above), this moisturiser also contains a technological advancement known as a ceramide precursor that is intended to help to restore and rebuild the skin barrier. This Skin Restoring Moisturiser is recommended for all skin types and is clinically proven to moisturise and soothe very dry and eczema prone skin. This is a non-greasy formulation and can be applied liberally as often as is needed. For best results use immediately after bathing with Cetaphil Skin Restoring Body Wash and we highly recommend taking Skin Restoring Ceramides as an oral supplementation (see anti-ageing section).
Ah, our fabulous editorial team have done it again and produced some pretty amazing new articles this month. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am in awe of their brilliance and they each pour their heart and soul into the subject matters they are most passionate about. You already know what the Beauty Bible girls and Jo Fairley have written about and in addition Kate Shapland goes hot and cold on legs; Lulu loves to dance (of course she does, she is on Strictly!) and she reveals just why she dances so much; Margaret Dabbs throws the focus on diabetics and the wonderful astrologer, Shelley von Strunckel writes our Health Stars for October.
Annee de Mamiel – Autumn Facial Oil
Many of you are big fans of the incredibly talented acupuncturist Annee de Mamiel and at specific times of the year, Annee releases a hand-blended seasonal oil to help support skin and emotions. Her Autumn Facial Oil addresses the needs of the skin as it makes the transition between the intensive summer months, towards the calmer, cooler phase of time. Loaded with key essential oils such as Elemi-Wild, Lemon, Rose Otto, Tarragon, Green Myrtle and Geranium, the Autumn Facial Oil is blended with base oils of Evening Primrose, Argan, Carrot Oil and Red Raspberry Seed Oil.
We love Temple Spa, we really do and I get really excited when new products are released because they are always so very special and this month is no exception. Earlier this year Temple Spa released the highly acclaimed Skin Truffle, the luxury moisturiser with pure gold, truffles and diamonds (yes really!) and the story continues with the launch of Body Truffle:
Body Truffle: This new hero product is a partner to Skin Truffle and both products have been developed as a celebration for the skin and contain ingredients synonymous with luxury and celebration. We all know how wonderful skin can look when it is at its best. A great lustre, sheen and an even skin tone is something we all dream about and Body Truffle really does deliver. It is an exquisitely indulgent body cream with powerful skin rejuvenating benefits and includes ingredients such as Black Summer Truffles, Champagne, Silk, Gold, Cashmere and Rose Quartz. Cashmere girls!! The texture is luscious and this is one product that I was absolutely thrilled to test. Yes, it’s expensive and as much as we would all love to use it morning, noon and night, if you save it for days when you just want a treat, then do indulge yourself because it is very, very special. The downside to that notion is that you could easily get hooked, but it’s a risk worth taking in my view. Body Truffle will be released next week, so for now it is on pre-order only, but I hope it will be with you within the next seven days.
Take It Easy: One of Temple Spa’s bestselling products last year was ‘Take Time To Smell The Roses’, the wonderful Moroccan rose bathing crystals that just flew out the door. It was released as a ‘Limited Edition’, but proved so popular that it is here to stay and it is now joined by the next product in the range, ‘Take It Easy’. Take It Easy bathing crystals have been formulated to help soothe muscle aches with a particular emphasis on tiredness. The mineral rich sea salts are blended with extracts of arnica, white willow and ginseng together with an abundance of essential oils to help clear the mind. Just sprinkle 3-4 spoonful under running water for a warm, spa-at-home bathing experience, or alternatively stir into a bowl of warm water for a foot soak.
All That Glitters: We are soon to hit the party season and ‘All That Glitters’ for lips and nails is Temple Spa’s offering for all things bling! This duo will dress up your nails and add a touch of glamour to your lips. Voila is a shimmery nail treat with an iridescent pearl lustre and it can be used on its own or over another colour to bring your nails alive. Magnifique is a lip plumper, which is great on its own, or it can be used over another lip colour to give your lips a touch of glitter and gloss. It also offers the additional treatment benefits of anti-wrinkle, moisturising and plumping and has a natural peppermint flavour.
News and Feedback
Coconut Oil: Still trending, still fabulous and it’s on my ‘this one’s forever list’; read what I wrote in last month’s newsletter by clicking here and because I am feeling rather kind, we will continue sending you the treat of a free Travel Size of Viridian’s Organic Raw Coconut Oil (worth £3.95) with every order placed for the 500g pot. Viridian will probably kill me for continuing the offer, but they are really, really nice people, so they shouldn’t mind too much!
The Hypo-Wallet: This is so clever. Sarah Stacey wrote about this product in YOU magazine a couple of weeks ago and this is what she wrote: ‘The Hypo-Wallet is a handy adjunct for people with diabetes, containing fast acting carbohydrates in specifically formulated doses, plus a treatment card telling people around what to do if they have a ‘hypo’ (low blood sugar). All products in the wallet are free of caffeine, artificial additives and suitable for vegetarians/vegans. Diabetes expert, Professor Charles Clark, calls it ‘a very good concept and an inexpensive way of providing peace of mind for patients and their relatives’.
Real Techniques Stippling Brush: Posted on Facebook by a customer: ‘I would just like to say that my Stippling Brush from Real Techniques is absolutely the best make-up tool I’ve ever had in my hands! It’s perfection in brush form’. Actually I have to agree. It’s the trade secret for creating airbrushed skin and every girl should have one!
IVF – An Emotional Companion: This newly published book is receiving many accolades and as IVF is such an emotive issue, I thought you might be interested to know about this book. Written by Brigid Moss, Health Editor of RED magazine, it is her fertility story together with stories from 22 other women. It covers all the issues from PCOS and nutrition, to male factor infertility and not ovulating. It can act as a best friend and one reviewer said that it’s like a support group in a book. Do check it out and it is available at Amazon.
Strictly Come Dancing: As if any of us need reminding, Strictly is back this Friday, 30 September, so let’s all get behind Lulu and hope she dances all the way to the final in Blackpool. I’ve asked Lu to let me have any/all the backstage secret gossip, so as and when I get the snippets, I’ll post them on Facebook. Meanwhile I saw her last week and she looked so completely fabulous that I felt rather sick. The least I can do is use her amazing hair care products and pray that one day my hair will look just like hers, except she is blonde and I’m brunette. Small detail!
As we come to the end of another newsletter and I would just like to acknowledge the great creativity, research and development of all the products I have mentioned on the newsletter this month. Each of the brands I have written about represent all that is good in this industry, all that is positive and in each of their ways they promise that tomorrow could be a better day. So together with Shabir, the VH Team and the VH Editorial Team, I wish you a healthy and happy October and next month we have the global launch of the new products from Lanolips, very exciting!
