March Newsletter

March Newsletter

Welcome to the March newsletter where I emerge from a Toronto-based trauma (yes I’m talking Flavanone Mud), we launch three new brands, I write about a re-branding event (ok, it’s Lanolips) and then we launch several new products. There is a bestselling treat somewhere in between, we do some health concerns, news and feedback and then I propose to go to bed for a week!

There is only one place to start, we all know where that is, it has been dominating my life (and email) for the past few weeks, our customer care team has been re-named the FM team and Brandon’s life is on the line. I actually threatened to murder him, but then I realized that I wouldn’t have any more NIOD products to launch so I decided otherwise. Let’s do it:

Flavanone Mud (FM)

Little did I know what would happen when I wrote about FM. It all began on the Addicts Bulletin, where I pre-released it without any details whatsoever, aside from its initials and the price; who knew that a product nobody knew anything about would sell out within 18 hours of pre-release; who knew that when we released the February newsletter it would sell out yet again before we even got to the end of the day and who knew that I would die a double-death when it then appeared in ES magazine two days later saying it had sold out, but was back in stock. It was true at the time of going to press, but the same day the newsletter was released was the same day we discovered there was going to be an ongoing raw ingredient issue. My head started to thump.

And then the wait list arrived; every day it grew, every day my head thumped a bit more. I sent out delay emails, update emails and about a million emails thanking those of you who responded in such a magnificent way. There is nothing like a VH’er, you are unbelievably supportive and I thank you for holding my hand through all of this.

So this is where we are at; the manufacturer of one of the raw ingredients is struggling really badly to keep up with the demand, despite Brandon offering them the sun, the moon and the stars. There will be delays going forward, it is pretty inevitable, but we are processing everything in date order. When I gave the VH Addicts this news approximately ten days ago, they responded by multi-ordering (I’m talking fives, sixes and sevens!) because they were petrified they were going to be without it. This was also true of the people who hadn’t yet received FM. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything like this before, but once you have tried it, you will understand. Here comes the early feedback and I’m starting with a confession:

I know that many of you are doing the accelerated approach with FM, which is using it every day (or night) for the first five days and then just using once or twice a week; when I wrote on the newsletter that I was totally obsessed with FM, I didn’t go into detail about the degree of my obsession, which is that I have used it every single day for around ten weeks now. I can’t help it. I follow through with CAIS and everything else (I mean everything aside from PF because I do this every evening).

But more, I know the instructions state that you should keep this away from your eyes and I really don’t want you using this on your upper eyelids, but I have been taking it right up to underneath my eyes, taking care not to get it into my eyes. The result, every single bit of puff (inflammation) has disappeared from under my eyes. I follow through with FECC and instead of the puff, I now have hollows (good hollows!) under my eyes; I’m completely spellbound by FM.

I don’t really know where to begin with the early feedback; practically every email I have received has the word ‘miracle’ in it; it has helped clear up adult acne, hormonal acne and any number of compromised skin conditions. I could go on and on, but I’m leaving the rest to two emails I received:

‘I have used all of the NIOD products since their launch and just when I thought my skin couldn’t get any better – it has! FM is magic in a jar (even if it does make you look like an orange when it’s on). My jar arrived earlier this week (thank goodness I pre-ordered it) and having read the February newsletter I could hardly wait to try it. We had a friend round to dinner that night – poor thing I was half pushing him out the door at the end of the evening so I could get my make-up off (with LVCE of course).

It is certainly nothing like any other face mask I have used and I have used quite a few. Ten minutes later I rinsed if off and was very happy to see nice clear skin with no puffiness despite having rather over-indulged on that evening on the food and wine front. Next morning my skin still looked good, so I decided to go for the intensive treatment regime and used it the following evening and left it on for double the time. Again my skin looked nice after rinsing it off – clear and puff free.

Fast forward to this morning. I was driving along heading off to do a big food shop and happened to glance in the car mirror – OMG – my skin looked fabulous – it was glowing, luminous and so healthy looking – I nearly ended up in a ditch admiring myself. So thank you again for another superb NIOD product and thank you Brandon. Looking forward to the next NIOD miracle. I am 63 (I don’t think I look it thanks to NIOD) and have tried most brands on the market – nothing comes anywhere near NIOD and many are heaps more expensive’.

And now this:

‘I received my Flavanone Mud and immediately removed my make-up and applied it. The colour is shocking and my daughter had hysterics as she thought it looked as though I had a bad case of sunburn combined with badly applied fake tan. She was not laughing half an hour later when I removed the mask to reveal a miracle. My skin was more perfect than I ever believed possible – smooth, plump and so, so soft. My daughter who has youthful 25 year old skin couldn’t believe how radiant my skin looked. One of her friends who is a beautician wanted to know what ‘procedure’ I had had done!!!

I have used the mask every day and the results are quite astounding. I think this product should be re-named ‘Miracle in a Jar’ because that is truly what it is. Thank you Gill and thank you Brandon. You really are a genius’. **Excuse me, I think I’m choking and may end up on the floor – ‘genius’ – behind every successful man there is a WOMAN – OMG!**

So, we will take it as it comes; the wait list is growing, so please bear with us, we will get it to you as soon as humanly possible. If it gets really bad I’m emailing our entire database with Brandon’s mobile number because I’m going to run away; he actually thinks he is going to run away with me. In your dreams Brandon Truaxe.
Flavanone Mud £28 for 50 ml; Low-Viscosity Cleaning Ester £30 for 240 ml; Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate £43 for 15 ml

Right, let’s do the new brand launches and there are three of them:

Mrs White’s

I have been following this brand for many years for several reasons; I think it’s clever in its simplicity, there are products that I would want to use in the range, it just felt right intuitively and that was before I had even touched a bottle. So when Lawrence Roullier White contacted me and asked if we could work together, the answer was a resounding ‘yes please’, let’s have some fun. And that is exactly what happened. It takes one to know one, so there we were putting the world to rights with both of us flying the flag for niche brands.

This man deserves every good thing that could possibly happen to him, basically because I really like him and he makes me laugh. Add into that the fact that he has created some outstanding products, I think we’ll adopt him, so please join me as I invite you to delve into his world and we are going to begin with the out-and-out bestselling product in the range, followed by some other bestsellers:

Mrs White’s Unstung Hero

Most insect repellents contain harsh chemicals which are absorbed by the human skin and work by repelling insects due to their toxicity. Mrs White’s Unstung Hero is a mosquito deterrent which works in an entirely different way thanks to its revolutionary formula; it helps render you ‘invisible’ to mosquitoes, midges, ticks, black fly, horseflies, wasps and bees.

It has been dubbed as a ‘magic formula’ and is recommended by the World Health Organisation, which is no small thing; it is non-noxious and it will protect for four hours, although it is suggested that to be on the safe side you should re-spray every two hours, especially if you are in a humid climate.

The Eau de Cologne’s uplifting lemon tea fragrance is suitable for men and women with subtle notes of tea infused with fresh citrus. You can actually wear it as a fragrance without anybody knowing you are a wearing mosquito protection and it is also useful to douse on bedding and clothes; as it is non-oily it will not damage either of them.

I heard a little rumour that Vogue take Unstung Hero with them on all their shoots and if anybody wishes to know, Shabir has fallen in love with it to such a degree that I am monitoring the stock. God help him if he ever looks at what I do; he could get another mung bean (what’s the matter with jam?) sandwich squashed onto his head. Long-term VH’ers will remember that triumphant moment. Anyway, bottom line, we don’t do mosquitoes. Everybody needs a bottle of this and just as a caution, please do not use on children under three.
Mrs White’s Unstung Hero £20 for 250 ml

Mrs White’s Legs Eleven

Legs Eleven is a unique blend of eleven natural ingredients specifically formulated to help provide complete daily care for legs (do we care about our legs – yes we do) and feet. You can, and should, use this twice a day if you can. You will love me for it. In the morning it preps your legs for the day ahead. Natural beeswax locks in moisture and provides a layer of protection; peppermint will make them tingle; cocoa butter and cocoa add a natural looking hint of a tint. At the end of the day, wind down with the cooling effect of Legs Eleven and when you look at the ingredient listings, you will see that it includes a shot of vodka. Nice work Mr White!
Mrs White’s Legs Eleven £15 for 100 ml

Mrs White’s Legs in the Air

Ooh La La. For whenever your legs are up in the air; more specifically this is blended to a higher potency and designed to increase circulation for when you are flying on a plane. Cleansing, cooling and refreshing, it arrives in a 50 ml plastic bottle, which you can carry on in your hand luggage. That’s all I’m saying. Really, that’s it!
Legs in the Air £10 for 50 ml

Mrs White’s Classic Cold Cream

Cold Cream has been around for centuries, with a history that can be traced back to ancient Rome; for millennia it was the only facial product that existed. Many of us will have memories of our mothers and grandmothers using this thick white cream that was used to clean the face of make-up and other residues. Cold Cream was used as a cleanser, moisturiser and a protector; Mr White got a bit upset when the big companies ruined the reputation of Cold Cream by using horrid ingredients, so he made his own. The formulation is true to the original recipe first invented by Galen, physician to five Roman Emperors around 150 AD and Mr White is pretty proud of it and hopes that if you are yearning for a good old-fashioned Cold Cream, you will try this.
Mrs White’s Classic Cold Cream £25 for 120 ml

GP Nutrition – Boost Me

GP Nutrition is founded by nutritional therapist Gabriela Peacock, so please allow me to introduce her new brand to you and I’m going to begin by saying that Gabriela’s background is in fashion modelling, having appeared regularly in the world’s leading fashion magazines. This experience motivated her to embark on a period of academic study to develop an understanding of the biochemistry of the body, its effects on health and ultimately the impact on beauty.

GP Nutrition offers an effective range of specialized programmes that combine high-potency blended powders, gels and capsules, clinically proven to get results. They have been designed with versatility in mind and they are packaged for convenience into individual doses, so you can take them wherever you are, whatever your lifestyle.

First things first, I fell in love with the clever packaging, but don’t take any notice of me on that score because more crucially Shabir fell in love with Boost Me and he is one tough cookie to please when it comes to supplementation. Heaven help the supplements (millions of them) that don’t come up to scratch or don’t have the correct therapeutic dosage.

Boost Me is an innovative, supercharged protein powder; the programme is rich in a spectrum of powerful vitamins, antioxidant-rich superfoods and minerals combined with hypoallergenic protein. Hypoallergenic protein was used as many people tend to react to more common, cheaper proteins and we certainly wouldn’t want that to happen to any of you. We care!

The ingredients included in this formulation include sprouted brown rice protein, red, purple and blue superfoods and raw cacao powder. Shabir is having a BIG moment about raw cacao powder, so much so he has written about it, which will come later in the newsletter. He had a touch of delirium when he discovered Boost Me included cacao powder and wouldn’t stop talking about it; for all I know he is still talking, who would know!

Boost Me is a 14 day programme; it is pretty fabulous and it does what it says on the tin. Power-up and mix the powder in 200 ml of cold water or milk and stir to dissolve. Alternatively add to a shaker. I’m on it, Shabir is on it, so please join us as our energy levels accelerate. A hard-core fix, which can be repeated as and when, or could it be forever? Thank you Gabriela.

London Butterflies

When this brand landed on my desk, it sang a song to me despite the fact that I can’t use any of their products – yes, yes it’s that wretched essential oil thing again. So out to the testers it went and they adored the products, so based on that, I hope you adore them too. A touch of background first:

London Butterflies is one ex-city executive’s dream that has become a reality. Lubna Ahmad gave up the hustle of city life to bring up her children, but that was not enough. At home Lubna decided to re-train and started making her own bespoke handmade beauty products for enthusiastic friends and family. From a passion centered on only using British ingredients, her first collection is dedicated to heavenly formulations with delicate fragrances to lavish the skin.

Bath Salt Scrub

Through deep cleansing, this Dead Sea bath salt scrub offers relaxation, whilst refreshing and brightening your skin. Scrub particles buff and refine in combination with the essence of sea minerals to gently exfoliate the skin, helping to soften and rejuvenate. Natural almond oil locks in essential hydration, leaving the skin supple and calmed.
Bath Salt Scrub £29.99 for 225 grams

English Apricot and Honey with Vitamin E – Body Butter Soufflé

This highly nourishing soufflé contains botanical extracts of English apricot with a high concentration of vitamin A and C; infused with a silky enriching combination of vitamin E and honey, our testers loved the uplifting scent as they cocooned themselves with this lightly whipped body butter soufflé.
Body Butter Soufflé £29.99 for 170 ml

Whipped Body Cream

This silky, whipped body cream contains a blend of jasmine, starflower and almond oil, which enables rapid absorption, leaving the skin feeling gorgeously soft. The beautiful fragrance (yes I can smell without touching!) captures the glorious essence of Spring.
Whipped Body Cream £29.99 for 170 ml

British Tunda Berries and Meadowsweet with Jojoba Oil – Body Butter Soufflé

Another air-whipped body butter, this time loaded with golden jojoba oil, a natural restorative and an invigorating fragrance of Lemon with Sweet Orange Oil. Fall in love time, even though the long names mean that I seem to have been typing forever without saying much. I’ll end by saying that all these products really do smell divine, I think you really will love them, so I feel left out – again!
British Tunda Berries and Meadowsweet with Jojoba Oil – Body Butter Soufflé £29.99 for 175 ml

Brand launches completed, let’s do the Lanolips re-brand, which includes a couple of name changes and we’ll throw a new product into the mix; I’m going to follow through with a couple of health pieces and then we’ll do the new product launches. I never, ever leave the new product launches until this far into a newsletter, but it’s just the way it has rolled this month, please stay with me!

In one way it seems like Lanolips has been with us forever and yet in another way it seems like only yesterday when we were launching the brand in the UK. Lanolips launched in 2009 as the world’s first truly natural lanolin brand. Today Lanolips has a cult following and more than 50 global awards to its name. It is an iconic brand and creator, Kirsten Carriol, decided it needed a new iconic look and so everything is changing.

Let me walk you through this: the packaging has changed and I think you will love the new look; these will filter through over the next couple of months as existing stock runs out. There is no change in most of the formulations, so please don’t panic; there will be new product launches going forward and that is something that we are all looking forward to.

For now there are just two things you need to know. The first is that there are some slight name changes; they are quite subtle, for example 101 now becomes 101 Ointment Multipurpose – Superbalm The Original and Golden Ointment becomes Golden Dry Skin Salve Allover Cream. All the lip products remain under the brand name Lanolips and all the body products have been re-branded as ‘Lano’, which kind of makes sense as you won’t be using Rose Hand Cream Intense (for example) on your lips.

The second thing is that there is a new Tinted Balm SPF30; it is fabulous, it is called Perfect Nude and I’m a big, big fan of nude lips as I’ve written many times. So there it is, the Lanolips/Lano story and it is another new chapter for all of us. Love Lanolips. Love Kirsten.
Tinted Balm Perfect Nude SPF 30 £7.99; Lanolips; Lano Lips + Hands + Allover

The Benefits of Raw Cacao Powder

I referred to raw cacao powder earlier in the newsletter when I was talking about Boost Me by GP Nutrition, so we are now going to take a deeper look at the ingredient Shabir is literally raving about, so it’s over to him:

Cacao trees are found in tropical regions all over the world, but predominantly two thirds of the world’s cacao supply comes from West Africa. The cacao tree, Theobroma cacao, bears large melon size fruits called cacao pods. When the pods are ripe they are cut from the tree, collected and split open to reveal rows of cacao beans covered in a white pulp. The pulp is removed, the beans are fermented, dried and cleaned before processing into cacao powder.

Although cocoa powder is derived from the same cacao bean, there is a marked difference between cocoa powder and cacao powder. Cocoa powder is obtained by roasting the beans at much higher temperatures than cacao powder. As heat destroys many compounds, the benefits of cocoa powder are greatly reduced. Additionally, cocoa powder goes through an alkalizing process, usually with potassium bicarbonate, to develop a more mass-market flavour and colour that we associate with chocolate. This process is liable to remove some of the minerals such as magnesium and calcium found naturally in cacao beans.

The health benefits of cacao powder have been known for decades, but not proven until now. Cacao powder is often labelled as a ‘super-food’ with good reason. The cacao bean has over 300 identifiable compounds including vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phytonutrients. High in magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, beta-carotene and omega 6 fatty acids, cacao powder provides these and other nutrients so that your body performs at its peak levels.

Cacao also contains anandamide, a natural euphoric compound. This means that cacao can act as a mood enhancer and unlike traditional drugs, it is without side effects. Another compound found in cacao beans is tryptophan, a potent natural anti-depressant, meaning that cacao has two mood enhancing compounds to help support anxiety and mild depression.

Other benefits of cacao powder include its ability to help aid weight loss due to its chromium content; it helps regulate blood sugar levels; it has a high content of arginine which is known to have aphrodisiac properties (wowee – go cacao!) and it helps enhance circulation.

In addition to all of that, there is now a cacao powder available that is the first to have a heart health claim approved by the European Food Safety Authority; it is Super-Cacao by Aduna. It is obtained from specially selected high-flavanol beans. Flavanols are plant-derived antioxidants that help maintain the elasticity of the blood vessels within our body.

As we age our blood vessels lose their elasticity, which means that the heart has to work harder in order to pump blood around the body. Super-Cacao contains eight times the flavanol content of regular cacao, supporting blood flow, maintaining elasticity of arteries and veins and it will therefore help protect the heart.

According to the World Health Organisation, heart related concerns are the #1 cause of death globally. Consuming 200 mg of cacao flavanols for seven days, helps improve blood vessel dilation between 1-2%, which means less stress on the heart muscle and improved blood flow in the whole body. Cacao Powder, the super-food-super-star that we should all be taking. Please do and thank you.

The Great Big Mega-Probiotic Treat

I’m not writing about Mega-P, I don’t really need to. It is one of our bestselling supplements, most of you take it, I wouldn’t want to live without it and because my sharing gene is hovering, I have created a twin-pack. Mega-P is £19 for 60 capsules, so two x Mega-P would cost £38. I seem to be having a love-fest on this newsletter with quite a few people, so that now gets extended to each of you, except you need to be fast – I don’t know how long this will last, but whilst it does I have swiped £10 off the cost of 2 x Mega-P, which means that you can buy a twin-pack for £28. Run. ** Sorry, this promotion has now ended. **
Mega-Probiotic Twin Pack £28 (Two x Mega Probiotic)

We are now going to do the new product launches, there are five of them, well six really, there are two from Aromatherapy Associates, here we go:

Youth Intensive Crème by iS Clinical

I don’t think any iS Clinical devotee will be surprised when I tell you that I had this product two years ago; even in its primitive state I loved using it, which of course made my LA boyfriends rather happy. So if you love iS Clinical, you will love this new addition to the ‘Youth’ programme.

Let’s run through some of the key highlights: it delivers powerful, 24 hour hydration; it plumps and smooths fine lines, it helps stimulate the production of collagen, it helps strengthen dermal structure and helps improve elasticity and it is suitable for all skin types. If you love rich creams, this is for you and it has been through some pretty rigorous testing, including an independent clinical study, which threw up some amazing results over a four week period.

Ingredients include Copper Tripeptide-1 and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), which helps to protect the skin against environmental damage. Youth Intensive Crème was launched in America first (sigh!) and has been hugely acclaimed. It’s our turn now; the price is £170, but for the first two months we are doing an introductory offer of £150, a little goes a long way and that’s a wrap.
Youth Intensive Crème by iS Clinical £150 for 50 ml

Aromatic Repair & Brighten Hand Cream by Aurelia Probiotic Skincare

A new launch from Aurelia is a happy moment and their Aromatic Repair & Brighten Hand Cream has been specifically formulated to target pigmentation and age-spots as well as being deeply hydrating and nourishing for softer, younger-looking hands and stronger nails.

Pigmentation often forms as a result of prolonged UV exposure and becomes more prevalent with ageing. Aurelia’s pigmentation complex is based on Sea daffodil, helping to reduce the size and density of pigmentation and also lightens dark spots. It is also rich in nourishing botanicals including signature Baobab, Kigelia Africana and Cassia senna, which mimics hyaluronic acid for hydration. Scented with Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Vetiver and Sweet Lavender, I think Aurelia have another winning product on their hands. Ahem!!
Aromatic Repair & Brighten Hand Cream by Aurelia Probiotic Skincare £28 for 75 ml

Spring Facial Oil by de Mamiel

A new season and the very lovely Annee de Mamiel releases her Spring Facial Oil, which works at a cellular level to deliver renewed energy, bringing winter weary skin back into bloom. Jojoba, Rosehip and Milk Thistle have been chosen to balance the natural oil and moisture levels of the skin. Juniper, Geranium and Grapefruit help jump-start cell energy levels and for protection Annee has included Clary Sage, Lavender and Rosemary, which help heal, protect and calm.

As with all seasonal oils, place three to five drops into the palms of your hands and press together to warm. Cup your hands, cover your nose and mouth and breathe in deeply for a count of three before exhaling for a count of five. As tensions melt away, massage the oil onto your face using upwards and outwards strokes until it is absorbed. Spring has sprung.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

It is estimated that between 10-15% of women suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), making it one of the most common hormonal concerns in women of reproductive age. PCOS is a medical condition that we still do not fully understand. The treatment for PCOS is usually aimed at alleviating PCOS symptoms; it is a debilitating condition, which is caused by elevated levels of the male hormone, testosterone, and also oestrogen. PCOS refers to multiple cysts on the ovaries and a whole host of other problems, which include a lack of ovulation, infertility and menstrual problems.

There are many factors that may cause PCOS. Genetics are thought to play a part in this concern and insulin resistance is another possible cause whereby your body cannot utilize insulin effectively, resulting in high levels of insulin being produced. Since all hormonal glands communicate with each other using hormones as chemical messengers, any hormonal imbalance has an effect on other hormonal glands leading to possible concerns.

In an in-depth article, Shabir takes a look at the symptoms of PCOS, insulin resistance and conventional treatments for this health concern. By far the biggest lifestyle contributor to PCOS is a poor diet. Research indicates that high consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates all lead to increased insulin production, so he takes a look at that too and then recommends four important supplements that you should consider taking if you have PCOS.

Feminesse Gel

I’m writing about this product because most people wouldn’t; vaginal odour is a very common and embarrassing health concern, so here is a product that will help address the issue. Feminesse Gel is specifically formulated to help eliminate vaginal odour that won’t wash away. Whilst it is perfectly normal for the vagina to have a mild odour, this can occasionally change and become strongly unpleasant or ‘fishy’.

Each application of Feminesse Gel is clinically proven to work from within to help even the most persistent vaginal odours disappear for three days at a time as each application will last for three days. It helps restore long-lasting feminine freshness from within, each pack contains up to ten applications (30 days relief) and arrives in a sterile wrapped reusable applicator. Done.
Feminesse Gel £8.99 for 20 grams

We are now going to take a look at two health concerns; I know I have written about them before, but we are getting an awful lot of emails and phone calls about Restless Legs Syndrome and Menopausal Hair Loss, so we are about to re-visit, unless you are new to VH (hello), which means it will be a first-time visit:

Restless Legs Syndrome

Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder which causes an awkward sensation in the legs along with an uncontrollable desire to move the limbs for relief. This uncomfortable sensation usually occurs in the legs and feet, but can also be present on the arms and elsewhere on the body. Most sufferers of RLS describe the sensation as a ‘creepy crawly sensation’, a tingling type, or as if pins and needles are being pricked into the affected party of the body. There may also be numbness which gives the sufferer a strong urge to move the limbs or the affected part of the body.

The exact cause of Restless Legs Syndrome is still not fully understood, however genetics play a link, magnesium and iron deficiencies have been implicated, certain drugs may be responsible for RLS and some concerns, such as diabetes, increase the incidences of Restless Legs Syndrome.

Since RLS is a neurological disorder and magnesium deficiencies are implicated, it is vital for sufferers to use Pure Magnesium Oil Spray. Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions within our bodies including energy enhancement, synthesis of the sex hormones and for pain relief. It is estimated that a wide spectrum of the adult population is magnesium deficient.

With specific reference to nerve function, magnesium works in tandem with calcium to ensure optimal nerve impulse transmission and any deficiency in magnesium results in muscle spasms, twitches or tremors, as well as the symptoms experienced with RLS. Using a topical form of magnesium restores deficiencies quickly and safely as well as helping to alleviate the uncomfortable sensations when sprayed onto the limbs.

Addressing Menopausal Hair Loss

It is completely natural to lose hair on a daily basis and on average it is thought that we lose between 50 and 100 hairs on a daily basis. However hair loss can be exacerbated as women approach the menopause with as many as 40% of women being affected by this concern.

There are a number of factors that may be attributed to hair loss during the menopause. Primarily the theory of testosterone dominance is the most widely accepted one. A woman naturally produces testosterone which is required for libido and energy and it is normally kept in check by sufficient oestrogen circulating in the bloodstream. As women approach the menopause, and in some cases prior to menopause, levels of oestrogen begin to decline sharply. This results in the dominance of the male hormone testosterone within the bloodstream.

This does not mean they are producing more testosterone, merely that the concentration of this hormone in the bloodstream is higher than normal. Since the body works within very finite levels of hormones, this excessive testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). When DHT reaches the scalp it can cause inflammation of the scalp resulting in damage to the hair follicles, which ultimately lead to hair loss.

You can read the full article on Addressing Menopausal Hair Loss below, which will give you further insights into this condition; you will also discover that we always recommend Superior Hair as a supplement and the Phylia haircare products, which over the years has helped so many of you. This leads rather neatly into some Phylia news underneath this.

Phylia de M

I have two pieces of news about Phylia; one is good news, the other is not such good news, so we’ll start by telling you that Fulphyl is back in stock. I know that many of you were having a mild panic attack, but the wait is over.

I know Fulphyl is expensive, therefore it is not for everybody, but this award-winning pure, humic free, fulvic acid supplement acts as a super cell conductor and helps allow cells to become more receptive to nutrients. It is a pretty remarkable chelator, encouraging cell health and regeneration, whilst also helping to eliminate harmful materials from the body. For the full low-down please read Shabir’s article on Fulvic Acid and I would also like to announce that we have limited availability of the travel size Fulphyl; get it whilst you can!

Here comes the not so good news: as I wrote on the last newsletter, all of the Phylia products were on a wait list because of raw ingredient issues (my life seems to be ruled by raw ingredient issues!). Everything is now back in stock with the exception of Re-Connect. I wrote that it would follow soon, but the latest update is that it won’t be following soon, in fact it could be several weeks before it will be back in stock.

So, if you have placed an order for Re-Connect we will keep you on the wait list; in line with company policy we have not deducted any monies from your account and will only do so the day your order is processed and sent, whenever that is. If you wish to join the wait list, please do, but in the meantime I suggest that you use Connect, which will of course support the Phylia regimen. Sorry.
Phylia de M Connect £45 for 120 ml; Re-Connect £60 for 120 ml (Wait List)

The O! Wow Brush: The brush that keeps on giving; it has just made its second appearance in The Sunday Times; thank you Sarah Jossel for loving it and for doing the tutorial on the ST site. Then this from a customer:

‘I know you have had so much feedback about this wonderful brush, but I just want to add that I had given up with liquid foundation as it was such a faff, even with the brush that came with it. I was using a mineral powder, which I never liked much. I thought £20 for yet another foundation brush was a step too far until earlier this year. Wow, wow, wow I am now back to my liquid foundation. I love the smooth look it gives my face. The brush is amazing. I am in my mid-sixties. Tell everyone they should buy this brush as it works so well on an older face’. Glory hallelujah and I’ve just told everyone. Thank you!

NIOD: This from a VH Addict: ‘Having read your Addicts Bulletin this morning and the comments regarding FM, it has prompted me to offer a finding I’ve noticed. Since I have been using all the products, I am absolutely sure they are helping in restricting facial hair growth. Could this be at all possible? The most noticeable area is the chin – could it be the twice application of NEC and is it time to throw away my tweezers? I’ll throw this open for discussion, let me know if any of you have noticed the same and I’ll share it with Brandon, if he behaves.

We have now reached the end of another newsletter and all that is left is for me to thank you for your patience, your ongoing support and for all the wonderful emails you have sent over the past few weeks. Things can only get better, and I guess they will when you all finally get FM onto your faces.

To Aries people everywhere, soon it will be our time; eat cake, drink champagne and be happy.

With love
