Welcome to the June newsletter where we launch Photography Fluid from NIOD (Non-Invasive Options in Dermal Science), which just might change everything, yet again; we take a look at adrenal stress and iron supplementation and we announce the death of a product, which saddens me for many different reasons. I leap onto The Podium with my Toronto boyfriend and as ever, I will be writing about your feedback and there are some rather fabulous treats to read about too, so let’s go and I am going to begin with an evolutionary and revolutionary new skincare product:
Photography Fluid, Opacity 12%
I honestly don’t think I could be happier right now as we continue to launch some of the most exceptionally advanced skincare products I have ever come across; working so closely with Brandon Truaxe, Founder & CEO of Deciem, is as exciting as it is challenging. The man is in a big hurry to change and turn the beauty industry upside-down and inside-out, so why wait! As I wrote a couple of months ago, Brandon and I made a pact to do this together; NIOD is exceptionally close to his heart and he has given me total autonomy to release the products in whichever order I like, so I’ve chosen Photography Fluid because when he first told me about it I nearly started to hyper-ventilate with excitement.
Having released Copper Amino Isolate Serum (CAIS) and Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Complex (MMHC) on last month’s newsletter, which I will write about after this section, I wanted to follow through with a product that not only complimented the above, but can quite happily stand alone in all its magnificent glory, and magnificent it truly is.
Photography Fluid is an advanced, colourless priming fluid and is a novel approach to creating a foundation for skin that reflects even radiance in life and very specifically through the camera lens. This instant treatment is serum-textured, but contains a wide array of light refracting prisms, tone and hue correctors together with topical photo-finishing technologies offering even radiance within seconds.
Four different technologies come together to create a formulation that is so staggeringly effective that those ‘in the know’ are predicting a total sell-out within hours of this newsletter going live and at this point I wish I had a crystal ball because I really don’t like wait lists.
It is already being referred to as ‘selfie-serum’ and ‘liquid-selfie’ because if ever there was a product created for making you look fabulous on camera, this is it; it really is a case of seeing is believing and I will just add here that I was testing this on a friend and the difference was so dramatic that she tried to steal it when I wasn’t looking, except I have eyes in the back of my head and spotted the attempted theft!
But of course it’s not only for the selfie-obsessed; you can mix Photography Fluid with moisturiser to be applied instead of, or under liquid foundation for subtle hue correction. I have tried it every which way; mixed with moisturiser it gives an amazing glow; mixed into liquid foundation, I want to die and go to skincare heaven and then try mixing it into an SPF and you will have a complete OMG moment that will take you right the way through the summer months, on the beach, by the pool or wheeling a trolley round a supermarket (that would be me!).
Let’s do the science; you may or may not be interested in this section, but with so many similar products on the market, I think it is really important to back everything up with solid research and facts; it is this information that dictates and underlines the difference between mediocre products and products that were born to bask in the spotlight using the very latest cutting-edge and pioneering technologies and yes, it matters, so here it comes:
Light Refraction Technologies:
Bio-Silica Photo-Finishing Prisms Graders 3, 7, 9: Multiple grades of next-generation ultra-fine particulates refract light in thousands of directions to create an immediately-noticed even tone to the skin.
Nano-Prismatic Blurring Suspension: Award-winning technology used to stabilize and enhance the action of copper peptides (you, me, copper peptides, it’s a love thing!) provides an ideal base foundation for the maintenance and delivery of the high concentration of copper peptides.
Chromatic Radiance Technologies:
Nano-Prismatic Gold Technology: Disappears immediately upon application with a natural golden hue as a foundation to healthy-looking radiant skin.
Patented Dragon Fruit Chromatic Refractor: The first-ever bio-fruit complex to provide immediate radiance to the skin as tested under multiple light conditions and under camera settings. Being first is good!
Camera Hue Correction Technologies:
Nano-Prismatic Yellow-Red Hue Corrector: Sixth generation, ultra-fine hue corrector blacks out red tones and minimizes undesirable yellow ones for skin that looks instantly better in life and on camera.
Surface Mesh Adherence Technology: Offers a breathing film that disallows perspiration-induced or unintended wash-off of other technologies in this product, or those applied subsequently to this product. There is a God!
Oil-Free Hydration Bio-Sugar Complex: Light, instantly-absorbed, oil-free bio-complex is clinically proven to offer comfortable hydration immediately with an effect that lasts 48 hours after each application to allow the corrective technologies in the product to be compatible with even the driest of skin types.
And there we have it; the launch of another spectacular product. Just a word about the 12% opacity; we could have taken it down to 8%, but Brandon and I decided to take it to the limit, it’s the way we roll! As a result you need to get this onto your face pretty quickly if you are using it neat as it dries within seconds, although it is not drying as you will have read above.
Is this the best ‘blurring’ product currently available in the world, yes I truly believe it is because I promise you one thing, if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t get onto this newsletter. So let the Photography Fluid revolution commence right here, right now and boy oh boy, are you going to love this. One last thing, you can read what Brandon has to say about Photography Fluid (and other things) in an interview I did with him, but more on that interview later.
VH Editorial: Gill meets Brandon Truaxe; Photography Fluid Opacity 12% £20 for 30 ml
Copper Amino Isolate Serum 1% (CAIS) and Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Complex (MMHC)
I think it is very obvious that when I fall in love, the entire world has to know about it and over the years there have been a few brands (ok, you can count them on one hand) that I have loved so passionately that I actually begin to believe they are mine! NIOD catapulted its way into that select group and I just can’t keep quiet about the launch of the first two products, CAIS and MMHC.
There is a banner across the top of our site stating that this brand is for the hyper-excited and quite honestly I am so incredibly amazed with the change in my skin that I am having a BIG hyper-excitable moment about it, so if you missed what I wrote about the products last month, just click here.
Within three hours of launching the brand, I was screaming to Toronto (Deciem HQ) for them to get back in the lab pretty pronto as both products were flying out the door faster than the speed of light; and then we received early reviews, which were literally staggering in their praise for the brand and the products. So a few more things to say:
You would think that given a choice between the two products, I would advise you to use MMHC because of my ongoing love affair with HA, but you would be wrong. Of course I wrote about both products as they have been formulated to be part of a two-step regimen, and they are core NIOD products; CAIS primarily throws the focus on skin health and is able to mimic the actual behaviour of younger skin, which is really exciting, so do read on:
CAIS does this by placing the skin into a constant state of heightened repair without causing inflammation or irritation. This approach encourages skin health, which is so important, forming a foundation to make skin look and act younger from its lowest depths upwards. So CAIS please before MMHC if you can only have one, but if you can have both, you will experience, in time, skincare nirvana and that is a promise from me to you.
To wrap, this from a VH Addict: ‘I am just bowled over by CAIS. I have been conducting a scientific experiment and have put it on the left-hand side of my face and neck only. The left-hand side is looking younger than the right-hand side! I’m hooked’.
Finally, it is really important that CAIS is kept in the fridge otherwise it will lose its potency and efficacy, which would be completely tragic!
Copper Amino Isolate Serum 1% (CAIS) £38 for 15 ml; Copper Amino Isolate Serum 1% (CAIS) £60 for 30 ml; Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex (MMHC) £38 for 30 ml
The Happy Molecule
Let’s talk molecules and the feedback we have been receiving about The Glow Molecule has made me so happy, that I feel it is my duty to release The Happy Molecule, so they can sit side by side and we can all look and feel fabulous; it gets better by the minute! Feedback first though and we have been inundated with emails and phone calls with one single message about The Glow Molecule – we are glowing and everybody is noticing. Wonderful, there is nothing like a bit of glowing gratification.
Time to get happy and positivity is now available in two teaspoons. The Happy Molecule is a concentrated lifestyle supplement incorporating a GABA Curcumin complex. Each two teaspoon serving contains 200 mg of solubilized GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) for instant release. GABA is a chemical that is made in the brain and if taken orally it helps relieve anxiety and counteracts the effects of short-term stress; it also helps alleviate symptoms of many concerns, including pre-menstrual tension (PMT). Curcumin, as a source of an anti-oxidant is included in a first-ever solubilized state for high bio-availability.
Just to say that I know many of you take Magnolia-Rhodiola Complex, so please stay on that, but if you want an extra mood-elevating kick, then The Happy Molecule, the feel-good molecule, can be taken alongside it. For the rest of us, get that teaspoon ready, start smiling and if anybody needs to know, it has a pineapple flavour.
The Happy Molecule £20 for 240 ml; The Glow Molecule £38 for 240 ml; Magnolia-Rhodiola Complex £26 for 60 Capsules
Adrenal stress is the modern misunderstood syndrome that affects most of us to varying degrees. Stress, whether physical, emotional or environmental, can stimulate a cascade of hormone production by the adrenals, which includes adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol.
Adrenaline is the most famous of the three stress hormones and acts like an ‘upper’ helping to enhance the function of all our body’s systems in order to meet the demands of stress, such as circulation. Noradrenaline is the body’s modulating hormone working to keep us revved up without causing stress to our body’s systems, including the heart. Cortisol is the body’s ‘downer’ working to bring the body back into its normal healthy state when it has been revved up for too long, or once the stressor has gone away.
These hormones should theoretically work very well to keep our body within its normal mode of operation. Unfortunately, in modern society we are constantly being subjected to all types of different stressors and whether the stressor is work-related, emotionally linked or hormonally associated, this constant level of stress causes our bodies to release constant amounts of cortisol to lower our system and the contradictory adrenaline to help us keep up with the demands of stress.
This is termed ‘adrenal stress’, which is only the starting point; after a while, the adrenals cannot manufacture cortisol and with very little cortisol going around the bloodstream, fatigue sets in and this phase is termed ‘adrenal exhaustion’.
Some amount of cortisol is healthy and it is this hormone that wakes us up in the morning. The problem is that high levels of cortisol impacts on nearly every system and hormone within our bodies. Excess cortisol switches off our digestive system causing any number of issues such as reflux, indigestion, bloating and constipation. Excess cortisol also affects our immune system making us more susceptible to infection and it affects nearly every hormonal gland, including the thyroid, pancreas and the reproductive organs. Additionally, cortisol has a major impact on the nervous system and the neurotransmitters, resulting in anxiety, sleep disturbances and mood swings.
Whilst the adrenals are busy producing cortisol, they do not produce sufficient energizing hormones, resulting in tiredness and fatigue. This is why stress often makes us feel tired and even though we may be tired, we still cannot get into a regular sleep pattern.
In a far-reaching article, Shabir takes a look at how to counteract adrenal stress and why he recommends Magnolia Rhodiola Complex together with a new supplement, Multi-Guard ADR, which are both completely brilliant for helping the body cope with stress and fatigue.
Please do take the time to read this article as it addresses some very common health concerns, which may help you tremendously.

Iron deficiency is the most common mineral deficiency in the world, affecting nearly 15% of the world’s population. Iron is a major nutrient needed by most children and menstruating women. Men, on the other hand, usually have excess iron, since iron is not excreted through the usual routes of urine and sweat. Iron deficiency usually arises by any factor, or a combination of three factors, which are low iron diets, poor absorption and excessive loss of blood.
Iron is found in haemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells, which carries oxygen to all parts of the body. Any surplus iron is stored in the body as a reserve. It is therefore vital that we get our iron from food sources such as iron-rich meat and vegetables.
When our diet is insufficient in iron, the body starts to use the reserves and once these have been depleted, the blood does not have enough iron and haemoglobin to oxygenate the body. This is called anaemia and according to the World Health Organisation, anaemia is one of the most widespread nutrient deficiency concerns in the world.
It is possible to be iron deficient without having anaemia. Iron deficiency develops gradually and occurs when dietary iron intake does not meet the requirements. Iron stores become depleted whilst the haemoglobin levels remain stable, which is the marker for iron status. People with iron deficiency have no iron stores to mobilise in case the body suddenly requires extra iron. The difference between iron deficiency and anaemia is that anaemia is an advanced stage of iron deficiency where iron stores, haemoglobin and blood levels cannot meet the daily requirements.
Some of the symptoms of iron deficiency include feeling lethargic, weak and fatigued; a lack of appetite, excessive hair shedding, shortness of breath; mild depression, short attention span and irritability; restless legs and a vulnerability to infection due to a weakened immune system.
People who are likely to be iron deficient include vegetarians, women of child bearing age, children and teenagers. Some types of inflammatory bowel diseases may cause iron deficiency, especially when accompanied by diarrhoea and it is also thought that some medications can affect our iron status or impede iron stores in the body.
Iron is poorly absorbed by the body, so although the recommended daily intake of iron is much higher than the daily requirement, in the majority of cases we still do not achieve sufficient iron levels in the body.
One of the best iron supplements currently available is Organic Liquid Iron by Viridian Nutrition. This liquid iron supplement contains iron sourced from the curry leaf plant and thus provides the body with a food-state iron that ensures greater absorption, rather than the synthetic forms of iron often prescribed.
Being a natural source of iron, this liquid iron supplement does not cause constipation or stomach discomfort. The formulation also contains organic amla fruit and acerola cherry extracts, which are rich in vitamin C, known to enhance the absorption of iron.
Organic Liquid Iron is suitable for children from the age of three as well as adults; unlike traditional forms of iron supplementation, this formulation does not overload the body with iron, which can be dangerous.

As many of you know, I have done this before and because all three of the below-mentioned supplements are bestsellers, here comes the treat again, so stock up whilst you can because this offer is for just over two weeks only and will end at midnight on Friday 12 June, or whilst stocks last, so you need to be quick!
The ageing of skin is a multi-faceted process, which is impacted by lifestyle, dietary choices and genetics. The cells of our bodies are programmed to have a finite lifespan. Each time a cell divides, some genetic material is lost, so that on average thirty to forty cell divisions are usually the maximum and after this the cell is considered to be aged. In order to maintain healthy and radiant skin, you need to protect, nourish and help prevent damage to the cells of your skin.
Nourish Your Skin is an insightful article, written by Shabir, and his core recommendations are to take Hyaluronic Acid High Strength (HA), the most crucial of anti-ageing supplements in our opinion, Skin Restoring Phytoceramides, which are beyond brilliant for dry, dehydrated skin and Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant.
I will also refer you to an article about HA, which you can read here and you will see just why I continually write about the importance of taking this supplement, in the correct therapeutic dosage of course.
So here comes the treat; we have put HA and Skin Restoring Ceramides together and then thrown in Astaxanthin as a gift for your skin. Together all three products would normally cost £77, but with a wave of my ‘magic wand’, the price becomes £60, which will give you a saving of £17. Go get! ** Sorry this promotion has now ended **

Death of a Product – Seditol
We launched Seditol, a supplement to help sleep issues, over ten years ago and it was the second cutting-edge product we launched for Next Pharmaceuticals after Relora.
At the time, Relora and Seditol were light years ahead of anything else available on the global market, they were phenomenally successful and together they have helped millions of people. Magnolia Rhodiola Complex, containing Relora, is of course still doing it, after all this time, and it remains, in our opinion, one of the most outstanding supplements ever formulated for stress and anxiety, but sadly, Seditol has now gone to product heaven to join its creator, the late, great Bob Garrison, who I still miss dreadfully after so many years.
So yes, I have a great big lump in my throat and tears in my eyes as I’m writing this because Bob was one of the first who trusted me to globally launch his cutting-edge and pioneering products and that I will never forget.
Over the years there have been many instances where I have said ‘all change’ on supplementation and so for those of you who have been taking Seditol, that time has come again and we are recommending Cherry Night, which is of course outstanding in its own right. Cherry Night is formulated for those with insomnia, sleep disturbances and for people who cannot maintain a healthy sleep pattern.
It contains glycine, magnesium, red date and cherry extracts, known for their support to improve sleep and help reduce daytime fatigue without causing drowsiness. All you do is stir one teaspoon of Cherry Night into water, juice or milk, half an hour before bedtime. We have had such great feedback about this supplement, so do try it because it really does work for most people.
Cherry Night by Viridian £24.95 for 150 grams
Magnesium Oil Original Flakes
Continuing on with the sleep theme, Magnesium Oil Original Flakes are hugely effective for stress relief, relaxation and sleep disturbances and there is nothing quite like a magnesium bath before you go to bed. These dry flakes of magnesium chloride also contain naturally occurring trace minerals and dissolve in warm water.
I do love products that have multiple uses and the flakes are also highly effective for helping to heal skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. Soaking in magnesium salts has been shown to markedly improve skin hydration, speed wound healing, enhance skin barrier function and decrease inflammation.
The Treat: If you buy any Better You product, we will pop in a gift of a 250 gm bag of Magnesium Oil Original Flakes. This will not show up on your invoice, so don’t panic, we will automatically include it. So do check out the fabulous range of Better You products which include B12 Boost, Femergy and Magnesium Oil Original Spray. Off you go! ** Sorry, this promotion has ended**
Magnesium Oil Original Flakes £9.95 for 1 kg; Better You Products
I’m going to jump onto the podium with Brandon Truaxe this month because as you may have read earlier, I have done an interview with him and I just wanted to say a few words about it. The first thing I want to say is that it is very rare in this industry to meet somebody who is actually completely on the same wave-length and isn’t afraid to tell it as it is. Brandon is that person and if there is anybody who can (and will) change everything, it is him. All I needed was to find somebody on the other side to dance on the platform with, and I’ve found him. Cha Cha Cha!
Change is exciting, it is both vital and exhilarating; nothing in life remains static and I promise you that nothing gives me greater pleasure than supporting and growing niche brands, most especially when that support and respect is reciprocated; it makes for a heady relationship of trust, honesty, integrity and love, which in my view is an unbeatable combination.
Biased, yes of course I am, but it’s a healthy bias because I just won’t talk about, or list, products that are not exceptional. At the end of the day I am a consumer too, so why on earth would I want any of you to use products that just don’t cut it. So the interview, radical, yes, controversial, yes, but somebody has to be and Brandon has the courage of his convictions to stand up and tell it as it is, although I will say one thing, he would have gone much further if I had allowed him to. That will come in time and the day that happens will be the day I give all this up and run away, with my phone switched off!

HIF (Hair is Fabric)
If I’m honest, the innovative concept of HIF is throwing a few people, but whenever a pioneering concept is bought to market, it does take a while for total acceptance, which is why I was so thrilled to read the following article in Wallpaper:
‘If one brand defies industry conventions, it’s HIF, turning hair conditioner on its head. The new line of products, which aims to treat hair like a delicate fabric, is a friend of foam. HIF has found an innovative solution to conventional haircare’s biggest problem: how to cleanse hair without stripping it of its natural goodness. The label’s answer was to create a range of 15 distinct conditioners employing a new technique that allows the product to foam while still providing long-lasting benefits and not damaging the hair’s fibre.
The brand thinks of itself as dry cleaning for hair, only with water. It uses next-generation ingredients to meet the specific needs of all kinds of hair types and concerns including hydration, colour and anti-ageing support as well as offering an intensive detox treatment for even the most fragile of hair. Their unique Fabric Depositing Technology ensures actives remain anchored to the cuticle after every wash.’
A few things to add here; less is more, please only use a small amount and as I’ve said before, the 180 second activator count is really important, as is rinsing thoroughly. It is perfectly normal for your hair to feel different when wet, unconventional – absolutely, but this is abnormally normal, a trademark of Deciem.
The feedback continues and I’m not at all surprised that Volume Support is the bestselling product in the range, closely followed by Hydration Support, Colour Support, Anti-Frizz Support and Growth Support. I have been using Volume Support and I’m not quite sure what happened, but my hair grew so much that I had to make an emergency visit to the hairdresser; as I told the VH Addicts a couple of weeks ago, I looked like Cousin Itt from the Addams Family, which I have to tell you wasn’t that cute. On the subject of Volume Support, this from a customer:
‘Thank you, thank you, thank you for HIF Volume Support. It’s simply the best shampoo I have ever used. I have the finest, flattest, straightest hair in the UK (albeit thankfully quite a lot of it), which never held its style beyond the day it was washed – not even that sometimes.
With Volume Support my hair lasts into not just the day after it is washed, but the next and I have even got it to last a day beyond that. It even survives a sweaty day’s gardening in my very large garden!
I was extremely dubious when I first used it – my hair after washing it, but before drying, felt heavier and I thought that I might have made an expensive mistake, but thankfully I was wrong. It feels conditioned and nourished without the usual lank and heavy feel that I have got from products I have used in the past.’
To conclude, please remember that if you have just had your hair coloured then please use Colour Support for a week before any of the other products, it makes a difference; and although it hasn’t hit into the top five bestsellers yet, I am hearing great things about Curly Hair Support, which helps retain hair’s natural curl. Integrated with tomato bio-ferment, rich in vitamins and minerals, it nourishes the scalp and hair follicle directly and the tomato enzymes help provide cysteine to the hair, the building block needed to form keratin, which maintains the hair’s natural integrity. HIF forever!
HIF (Hair is Fabric) from £20
Last year we launched PaleoGreens, alongside an article entitled ‘What is the Paleolithic Diet’ which you can read here. To compliment PaleoGreens, PaleoReds has just been launched which contains whole-food extracts of cherries, strawberries, blueberries and other highly nutritious organic fruits and vegetables as well as additional enzymes.
One serving has the equivalent antioxidant capacity of four servings of fruit, based on ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). If you were to eat four servings of fruit, you would also ingest an average of 60 grams of carbohydrates from a mix of the simple sugars glucose and fructose, so PaeloReds was created to be low in calories and sugar, while providing all the phytonutrients from ten powerful fruits and vegetables together with extracts from grape seed/skin and elderberry.
PaleoReds is perfect for people who avoid or limit fruit consumption on low-carb diets because of its effect on blood sugar and insulin. It is also great for children who have trouble chewing fruits and vegetables and it also helps meet the daily requirement for fruit and vegetables. It can be taken neat or added to shakes and smoothies.
PaleoReds Powder £70.45 for 270 grams
Dry Eye Concealer
We love this new product from Skin Shop; Dry Eye Concealer helps conceal dry, red and flaky skin around the eyes while calming and treating the skin at the same time. It contains Cardiospermum, a powerful natural calming herb for dry and irritated skin. Dry Eye Concealer also contains Biolin, a novel new skin probiotic which floods dry damaged skin with healthy skin flora to help repair the skin barrier and seal in moisture.
Dry Eye Concealer comes in a natural skin tint with light reflecting particles to help brighten and conceal dry, red, skin around the eyes and the concealer uses a silky soft brush for the lightest application.
When first using Dry Eye Concealer, click the top of the pen slowly and repeatedly until the concealer appears in the brush head. Do not click the dispenser device too quickly or it may jam!

Botaniques Dewy Facial Mist
It is rather well documented that I completely adore and respect the very beautiful Annee de Mamiel, who, in my opinion is the very best acupuncturist in the world, if only you could get an appointment with her!
I wrote about Annee’s gorgeous products when they first launched and one of the products, Dewy Facial Mist, has just been re-formulated, and re-packaged, so I thought I would tell you about it.
Botaniques Dewy Facial Mist is a wonderfully refreshing mist, which is packed with nature’s best hydrators to help cool, calm and refresh the skin. Combining prebiotics, peptides and hyaluronic acid with traditional soothers, aloe and cucumber, it delivers hydration to thirsty skin.
