Weekend Read

As I welcome you to another Weekend Read, it has come to pass that the majority of emails I am now receiving are about the theme of the week.  Mostly they are non-product related, but more about the life and times of who and what we are.  So arise all you Springsteen fans, it was a joy to share our Bruce experiences last weekend.  This is what we need to be doing, for our shared sanity, on any number of subjects.  I completely understand that running parallel we have a responsibility to help look after your health and wellbeing, but there is so much else to share, so let’s make a pact to co

I think one of the most apparent aspects of living in the ‘now’ is that none of us can plan anything.  It’s interesting because I have written so many times over the years that I have never created a business plan for VH, mostly because I don’t really look at us as a business, more of a happening.  It is certainly true that life can change in a heartbeat, we have all witnessed that this year, and so before we do anything else, I am going to welcome you to the Weekend Read and tell you that I have a few things to say.  I always seem to have something to say.  On so many d

As I write this, it occurs to me that perhaps the Weekend Read has morphed into the life and times of me and my friends.  It was always a long-term dream to have a sharing platform.  A platform which we could all stand on.  The need to celebrate achievements is so important, the big and the small.  The need to acknowledge trauma is just as important.  But the need to try and laugh against adversity is a great challenge as our strange world turns inside out and upside down.  I’m up for the challenge, so however difficult individual circumstances are, I hope that some of today’s words and pro

As I welcome you to another Weekend Read, and before anything else, may I just say that today is World Mental Health Day.  My emotions are all over the place for so many differing reasons, not least because it is a subject that is so close to many of our hearts.  Most specifically I have, as you know, been writing about bullying and the mental cruelty that is bestowed upon innocent people, which so often results in mental trauma and, tragically, in some instances, suicide.  All I ask is that we are each mindful of this, not only today, but for all time.  And of course it

In my passion for the truth, across all things, I would like to begin this Weekend Read by sharing a few things with each of you as we continue to take each day as it comes.

As the weeks roll by, we are faced with continuing global uncertainty across all things.  It is for this very reason that I started to write weekly at the beginning of this pandemic, so as I welcome you to another Weekend Read, a few things to say.  We will get through this and whatever it looks like, we hold hands as we always have done.  The certainties, in this uncertain world, are that the inevitable ingredient shortages will continue, some products may disappear and manufacturers will start hiking up their prices, which we will absorb wherever we can, until the day

As I welcome you to another Weekend Read, I think it was rather inevitable that I would begin where I ended last weekend. I have to tell you that I was in two minds whether or not to send a dedicated email mid-week because I have rather a lot to say about Secrets and Lies. With balance, I have chosen to jump onto my self-appointed podium, so please forgive me for another longer than usual Weekend Read, but these things are important. They always have been. And of course I need to give you the feedback.

So as I welcome you to another Weekend Read, I am a little bit excited about a new launch. I’m actually talking about Cadbury’s Orange Twirl, which is being resurrected after last year’s unprecedented demand for this Limited Edition bar of wonderment. I have a friend who was on a mission to track one down. He couldn’t. We live in hope.

And suddenly it’s September. As we step into the Autumn months, we embrace all that it brings with hope and a pragmatic acceptance of who and what we are in this ever-changing world.  It is my favourite season of the year. We are through the heat of the Summer and I welcome the cooler days and nights. If we are talking health, then this is where, under normal circumstances, I would start writing about protecting our immunity. Except I’ve been writing about it for most of the year and I will continue to do so because of its importance.

As the weeks progress, one thing is becoming abundantly clear and that is that I feel like I’m writing a soap opera, with a different episode each week.  In some ways I suppose it maps the life and times of each of us as we continue to walk together into the unknown.  I have always thought that life works in mysterious ways and having the trust that I do, I do what I do in each moment because it intuitively feels right.  For each of us.  And that’s all that really matters.  For the now.  And in the end.
