December Newsletter 2012
Welcome to the December newsletter, where we have two fabulous new product launches for you and we take a look at some of the highlights of the past year. We also have two new editorial categories for you to explore and participate in, Shabir writes about strategies to help promote healthy joints and he then takes a look at a very common health concern, constipation. On the gift front, Temple Spa, This Works, Neom and Margaret Dabbs have some fabulous seasonal offerings and I reveal Shabir’s five favourite health products of the moment.
Before anything, I just want to say a very big thank you to all of you; your loyalty and support is immeasurable; your continual feedback staggers me at times and our Facebook family is just something else – so, so special. More than ever before, this year has been a year of sharing in many different ways and this newsletter is written in that spirit, so let’s go with the new launches first:
Color Wow – Root Cover Up
Color Wow is the latest creation from internationally acclaimed hairstylist, John Frieda, and industry-renowned products innovator, Gail Federici. John and Gail, co-founders of John’s original professional hair care company, have now gone on to form Federici Brands. Together with John Frieda UK Creative Director, Kevin Moss, John and Gail have created a complete line of professionally formulated products that not only protect, correct and resurrect your hair colour and texture, but also gives your hair the ‘wow’ factor. ‘Root Cover Up’ is the first product to launch from the Color Wow brand.
The first thing I want to do is thank John and Gail for allowing me to launch this new range on VH. With a history of groundbreaking products behind them, including Frizz-Ease and Sheer Blonde, I strongly believe that Color Wow will follow in that genre and for the millions of women who colour their hair, Color Wow means no more roots or ‘in-between colour’ days, just perfect hair colour, every day. See miracles do happen!
So with the focus on solving all of the problems common to colour-treated hair, dark re-growth, grey roots and compromised colour, John and Gail believe they have discovered the missing link in the evolution of colour care and so I give you three things. Firstly, do read my interview with John and Gail, where they talk about their lives, their products and their predictions for the future of hair care; secondly, I have a quote from Kevin Moss and I will then write about ‘Root Cover Up’, which just may well revolutionise your colour enhanced life!
Kevin Moss, Creative Director, Color Wow and John Frieda UK Salons: ‘Hair colour can make the biggest impact on a woman’s appearance. They want their colour to look flawless for as long as possible. Color Wow makes that possible, and more importantly, Color Wow makes that easy’.
Gill meets John Frieda and Gail Federici
Root Cover Up: Root Cover Up is a professional mineral powder that covers roots really quickly with no mess. It is the easiest thing in the world to use and you can achieve outstanding results in a minute, or two! It comes in four different shades and the best way for me to describe it is that it looks like a retro mascara block in a mirrored compact with a specially designed brush. It sounds simple and it is, but the real leap forward and evolution in this product is that it not only covers grey roots, but it also covers dark roots in colour-treated and highlighted hair. So that means, if you have blonde highlights in your hair, for example, and dark regrowth, the blonde Root Cover Up shade will camouflage your regrowth, so it looks like you have fresh highlights.
As Gail states: ‘Other root cover products make big promises, but have always fallen frustratingly short; there is nothing else on the market that can deliver these results; the formula is oil-based, non-waxy and covers all roots seamlessly; it stays in place and looks completely natural’.
So after three years in the lab of the original John Frieda team, a new star is born, with an industry-first product. Obviously throughout the three years of creation, Root Cover Up has been tested along the way and each and every tester tried to run away with the sample, it is that good!
Root Cover Up should be applied to dry hair; it is water-resistant and will last from shampoo to shampoo; it is fast and easy to use with no mess; you can achieve perfect results in under a minute (dependent on how you use it); it is a 60 application kit, so it will last at least three months under normal use and all this means is that it can dramatically extend the time between colouring your hair.
Let’s do the usage: Starting with dry hair, the dual-tipped brush allows you to customize your Cover Up application. Apply to roots, starting at the scalp and working out. Repeat until roots disappear, then apply to temples and any other grey hair as needed. To extend the life of highlights/streaks, use the small side of the brush, apply to regrowth until the roots are camouflaged.
As with most of our product launches, I have been sitting on this one for months and I have been desperate to share this with you because it is nothing short of sensational, but quite honestly I would expect nothing less from the original John Frieda team. When I first saw the product being used, I nearly collapsed with excitement, but actually thought it would be pretty uncool to land on the floor next to John’s feet, so I threw the products in my bag, maintained my decorum and drove home (like a demented being) to my mirror and when I got there I started to play:
I am a brunette and I have very fine blonde and light brown lights going through my hair, basically to lift the dullness of having a block colour. It is some time since I have had my lights done and so I took the two lightest shades of Root Cover Up, blonde and mid-brown, and put some lights in my fringe. Even though I had watched the demonstrations, I couldn’t believe the dramatic impact within a couple of minutes and I am now completely and utterly hooked. It is completely predictable that I would use the word ‘wow’ when I saw the results, but quite honestly I can’t think of a better word; so on that note all I will say is long live innovative products and just start brushing that colour on!
I will leave the last words to John Frieda: ‘We were the first company to approach hair care like skin care, prescriptively. The result was several totally new categories like Frizz-Ease, Sheer Blonde and Beach Blonde. Color Wow is a continuation of our prescriptive approach legacy’. Go Root Cover Up, go ……!
Root Cover Up by Color Wow: £28.50 (Blonde, Light Brown, Medium Brown and Dark Brown)
Over the years I have always resisted listing ranges of nail polishes for several reasons, basically because they are available on every high street. Having said that, I can change my mind in a nano-second when something completely amazing comes along and that is exactly what happened when I discovered Headline Colors – and yes, Shabir’s eyes rolled up to heaven (again!), but a girl has to do, what a girl has to do!
Headline Colors is the brand new, must-have nail colour collection following the heartbeat of fashion, offering a capsule collection of only the hottest nail colours based on the very latest fashion trends. Created in collaboration with fashion insiders and trend forecasters, Headline Colors brings you what’s hot … this month … this week … this very moment. Headline Colors moves as fast as fashion and each limited edition polish ties in with the latest micro-trends and once they are gone, they are gone.
Being a bit of a nail freak, the one thing I detest more than anything is polish that chips and looks ‘tacky’. So I put them to the test and I can report that they lasted two weeks on my nails and I only took each colour off because I wanted to try each of the colours. Before we dip into the winter colours, I just need to say that Headline Colors are salon-approved and the formula boasts a high colour pigment for a rich, intense colour and gloss, plus UV absorbers for staying power. A blend of four plasticisers allows nails to flex without colour chipping, cracking or flaking. The polishes are free of the ‘Big Three’ toxic chemicals, toluene, DBP and formaldehyde. That said, let’s do the limited edition shades for winter:
Twisted Silk: Icy cool. Super Chic. A pretty, chalky pink as seen on That Coat at Jil Sander, neat and chic at Peter Pilotto and fingertips at Tom Ford and DSquared2. Note from me: Many years ago I was in love with a similar colour, which then got discontinued. I searched high and low for a substitute, but failed miserably. Every similar colour I tried streaked horribly and just wouldn’t cover properly. Twisted Silk covers in one and becomes even more intense in two. Amazing.
Twisted Silk by Headline Colors £9
Firewater: Rich. Luscious. Beautiful. Berry. A red wine nail as seen at Christopher Kane, DVF and Dior, plus lips at Badgley Mischka, Nicole Farhi and Gucci. Note from me: This is the colour that everybody in the office wants (aside from Shabir and Andrew of course!).
It is very, very rich and if you want to party in a gorgeous red, this is the polish that will do it.
Firewater by Headline Colors £9
Belladona. Vibrant. Lustrous. Beguiling. The soul mate to Chanel’s electric blue crystal eyebrow, also seen at Christian Dior, Miu Mui and Gucci. Note from me: Jo in Customer Care is drooling over this colour and she has been talking about it at every given opportunity over the past few weeks. I suppose it will be going home with her and if you are a jeans girl (like me!) you will love this, although I have to say it looks pretty striking if you wear all-black.
Belladona by Headline Colors £9
Gunmetal. Steely. Goth. Glam. A pewter grey as seen at Burberry, Alexander McQueen and Chanel, plus dramatic smoky lids at Costume National. Note from me: I am wearing this colour right now and it is big, big love from me. Within a couple of hours of putting this colour on my nails, I got three comments and I’m not surprised because it’s rather stunning and it’s my kind of colour – at the moment!
Gunmetal by Headline Colors £9
Quicksand. Divine. Romantic. Neo Nude. A chocolate-milk taupe as seen at Valentino, Giles and Miu Miu, as well as the ‘new nude’ nails and eyes at Louis Vuitton. Note from me: There are times when I just want a nude nail and this fits the bill rather wonderfully. I really detest French Manicures (sorry!), but Quicksand screeches ‘class’ and if it’s good enough for Vuitton, then I’m following!
Quicksand by Headline Colors £9
Headline Colors. Fashion. Nailed.
This is the section of the newsletter where we take a look back over the past year. Throughout 2012 we launched some amazing new brands and products and I can barely believe that this time last year none of us had even heard of Phylia! So I’m working through the highlights of the year and please read carefully because there are some treats thrown in. I need to live up to my reputation of always writing a bonkers December newsletter and although I have written in each section that there is only one gift per customer, that only applies to each specific offer; you can work your through and get multiple gifts if you so desire!
Instant Miracle Mask
Instant love and an instant miracle; when we launched this brilliant mask from Sarah Chapman we conceded that it was not too glamorous, but oh boy, it delivered. I can’t describe it any better than the Beauty Bible girls, and this is what they think of it:
‘There are, in our experience, very few products that can live up to the ‘miracle’ promise, but hallelujah: here is one that does. And then some. This is not like any other mask you’ve ever tried. Pour 60 ml of water into the shaker and add the contents of a sachet. Shake well until it goes ‘silent’ and then get slathering FAST with the spatula. The pink powder is transformed into a rubbery paste and you’ve got a minute or so to apply it all over your face and the back of your hands. We find it easiest to do this in front of a mirror, to see where it’s going and ensure even distribution.
Then lie back and let the extraordinary mixture work its magic. The real clincher is a mega-dose of Hyaluronic Acid which is ‘trapped’ by the mask, plumping up skin to the point where when Jo tried this for the first time, she looked in the mirror and saw the complexion of a 12-year staring back. Every line gone. That particular effect only lasts a few hours, but the skin brightening radiance is enduring and makes this truly worth £9-a-pop. (Console yourself that it’s a fraction of the cost of a super-facial with Ms Chapman herself!) What’s really fun is peeling it off afterwards. So satisfying’!
Instant Miracle Mask by Sarah Chapman £38 for 4 x 15g sachets; Instant Miracle Mask Refills £42 for 6 x 15g sachets
Later in the year, we launched ‘Sculpting Chin and Jaw Lift’, which was inspired by Sarah Chapman’s dramatic skin sculpting, reshaping and firming clinical treatments. This lifting treatment delivers potent skin tightening actives in an elastic mask that stretches up and over the chin, neck and jowls. It is claimed that your neck and chin will appear more defined, re-modelled and firm and will give the feeling on an instant ‘chin lift’ and it does just that!
Sculpting Chin and Jaw Lift by Sarah Chapman £38 for six masks (£6.30 per chin lift!)
The Treat: If you buy any two of the Sarah Chapman products mentioned above, then we will gift the wondrous Facialift, worth £25 to the first 50 people to take up this offer. We are all pretty hooked on this clever little gizmo and with regular use (just five minutes a day) you can help roll away all tension from the jaw area and it also helps drain toxins and puffiness. This makes a great gift, so if you already have one, the recipient will probably love you forever. You can do this online; it won’t show up on your invoice, but will automatically arrive if you are amongst the first 50. Only one gift per customer.
The Facialift by Sarah Chapman £25
Phylia de M.
As I mentioned earlier in the newsletter, I can barely believe that this time last year none of us had heard of Phylia. With my hand on my heart, I can honestly say that launching Phylia de M. in May of this year has been one of the most rewarding experiences in the history of VH. Each product is worldwide ‘best in category’ in my opinion and guided by Kazu Namise and Dr Miyayama, Phylia’s founding scientist, we are on a mission to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of each person we touch.
The journey began with the release of Clean, Condition and Connect and given that I have written about each of these products on every month’s newsletter since May, suffice it to say that I am literally blown away by your response and the dramatic results that these products have achieved. The one thing that I will repeat here is that each time I receive an email about hair regrowth from a customer with major health issues, a tear rolls down my face (I’m a big softie!). At this point I just want to acknowledge Kazu and Dr Miyayama, who behind the scenes have been working alongside some of our customers on a one-to-one basis to ensure that the Phylia products create positive results as they battle with illness, none more so than with Fulphyl, which we launched last month.
Clean £28; Condition £30; Connect £45; Three Step Kit £103; Connect Rephyl £180 for 570 ml
On last month’s newsletter I stated that I believed ‘Fulphyl’ to be the single-most important health product to have been released in the past decade and that I was pretty sure that statement would suffice for the next decade too. If you missed what I wrote, then click here to read all about it, but the feedback we are receiving, after only four weeks, has been phenomenal. In a nutshell everybody is calling it a ‘magic potion’ as they find their energy levels increase, together with the feeling of lifting ‘heavy tiredness’. I also have had several reports of Fulphyl’s magnificent wound healing ability, most especially on open wounds.
I have of course been using Clean, Condition and Connect since March of this year, when I first met Kazu, and the health of my hair has improved to such an extent, that it is unrecognizable. I didn’t have any particular hair issues, but I was completely fascinated with Phylia’s scalp health and now I can’t ever imagine using anything else because my hair is thicker and glossier than ever before. As for Fulphyl, I have been taking it for approximately four months and I’m paranoid about taking this every day; I am convinced that Fulphyl is the key to overall health, healing and wellbeing.
Fulphyl £160 for 360 ml
The Treat: I know this is going to go wild, but the first 100 customers to buy any product from the Phylia de M. range will receive a bottle of Connect (120 ml), worth £45, all tissued-up and gorgeous in a very special Phylia wash bag. There is only one gift per customer, if you are amongst the first 100 people to place an order for any Phylia product, then we will throw this into the box. This can be done online and once again, it will not show up on your invoice, but comes with extra special love and hugs from Kazu and Dr Miyayama.
Another favourite subject; my LA boyfriends and their amazing products. We launched the new range from Innovative Skincare in July and everything changed, including our skin! Right from launch, I made the decision to sample these products as heavily as I could because I wanted as many of you as possible to experience their brilliance and your feedback has been awesome. Always rely on VH customers to come up with some stunning one liners; Instant Smoothing Gel was dubbed as ‘Spanx for the Face'; Exfoliating Enzyme Treatment as ‘alchemy in a tube'; Reparative Moisturiser as a ‘truly remarkable product’ and Restorative Eye Complex as ‘above brilliant’.
Before we head into the treat, and of course there is treat coming, this from a customer and it is her third email on the subject:
‘I know I shouldn’t go on about it and waste your precious time, but this stuff (the entire range) is sensational. My husband came back late last night from a business dinner and said that my skin looked so amazing, so taut and so beautiful (note, I was wearing no make-up as I was already in bed!). Please can you go back to your ‘lover boys’ in LA and ask them to now create a mask or something that will make us all look like babies again!’
In response, I will say that my ‘lover boys’ will be in London at the end of this week, I’m beyond excited and I can tell you that some heavy duty research is going on right now which will blow skincare, as we know it, out of the water. A mask would be good; they have some pretty sensational masks, but they are only for professional use, so I’m going to sit on Bryan and Alec and I will not let them go back to LA until they agree to create a home-facial-kit for us. In fact I may well start a petition, but for now let’s go with the treat:
The Treat: I’ve done this before, but I’m doing it again, basically because I get a real kick from doing this one. So the first 50 people to buy any product from the Innovative Skincare range will receive the Essentials Kit, worth £41.50, as a gift. Once again, there is only one gift per customer, this will not show up on your invoice, you can order online and if you are amongst the first 50, then you can screech when you open your VH box!
Innovative Skincare; The Essentials Kit £41.50
September 2012: HealGel. We launched the original HealGel approximately five years ago and as I wrote on the September newsletter, the HealGel journey has been a very emotive one for each of us involved. Created by five of the UK’s leading plastic surgeons, we re-launched the original HealGel as HealGel Intensive and released two new products, HealGel Face and HealGel Eye.
HealGel Intensive is a revelation and it has a massive following; I’m not at all surprised and I’m reverting back to the Beauty Bible girls because I’ve used up all my words about this little pot of wonder over the past five years:
‘We can’t add much to the roll-call of rave reviews on HealGel, but the bottom line is we both know so many people who have used this after surgery, or after some kind of other body trauma, and experienced extraordinarily swift healing. It’s good for burns, redness, bruises, strains and stretch-marks (and anecdotally – rosacea and wrinkles). Since Sarah was one of the first people to write about HealGel, it has become a bit of a legend in skin circles – and we still feel pretty evangelical about it’.
HealGel Intensive £37.50 for 30 ml; HealGel Face £48 for 50 ml; HealGel Eye £32 for 15 ml
The Treat: It is completely obvious that HealGel Intensive is the brand hero, but HealGel Face and HealGel Eye are also developing a cult-like following, which makes me very happy. So the first 100 people to buy any one of the three HealGel products will receive HealGel Intensive (worth £37.50) as a gift from me to you. I expect a degree of madness, so only one gift per customer, this can be done online, it will not show up on your invoice, but will just arrive with your order if you are amongst the first 100. Go HealGel!
Another month, another launch and I wrote about Miracle Glo on last month’s newsletter and the response has been so overwhelming, it goes straight into ‘the treat’ section of this newsletter and also into our top five bestselling products over the past month. None of this surprises me of course because I have been using Miracle Glo for a year and in my opinion it absolutely lives up to its description of ‘make-up artist in a bottle’.
You can read what I wrote about it here and several people have emailed me to say they are using it as a primer, as opposed to brushing it on top of foundation, with magnificent results. Well, you learn something every day and put to the test, it is quite wonderful. I’ve taken to using it twice, as a primer and then again on top of my make-up, if I am wearing foundation, and now this from a customer:
‘Just had to write and say thank you for all the fab products that helped me look so good at my 50th birthday party. I felt great and I received so many compliments; my sister was convinced I had some work done, little did she know it was all down to Miracle Glo; what an absolutely amazing product’.
A small announcement before we head into the treat. We released Miracle Glo as a set with a brush included, but it is now also available without the brush. As many of you do have foundation brushes, I wanted to give you the option and also if you are buying it for the second time, you will not want to land yourself with yet another brush. Just one last thing, Miracle Glo is a Federici Brand product, so if you put two and two together, you will arrive at the fact that this comes from the John Frieda/Gail Federici stable. Er, must ask John if he uses it – can’t promise to publish the response!
Miracle Glo (with brush) £40; Miracle Glo (without brush) £33
The Treat: The first 100 people to order Miracle Glo (with or without the brush) will get another bottle of Miracle Glo (without the brush) as a gift, which is worth £33. I think this is a great present and I would be extraordinarily happy to be given this genius ‘perfecting glotion’. So again, there is only gift per customer, this can be done online, it will not show up on your invoice, but will just arrive with your order if you are amongst the first 100.
Become a VH Addict
Right, this is different to each of the treats, so please read very carefully. VH Addicts are our hardcore customers and they get numerous benefits, including 10% discount on most products (we are not allowed to discount a few brands), personal prescriptions from Shabir, priority shipping and at times, special treats and offers from me.
In the spirit of giving, we would like to offer 100 of you VH Addict membership, which would normally cost £30 per annum. In addition we will set you on your way with a free bottle of Hyaluronic Acid (200 mg) worth £35; so that’s a £65 gift from me to you.
This offer is only open to VH customers who have never been a VH Addict and if you are currently a VH Addict, then I’m sorry, but you cannot use this offer to renew your membership. I specifically want to gift some of our loyal customers who do not have Addict status, so please accept this in the spirit of sharing and gifting others.
This next part is really important: Please do NOT do this online as we will be unable to honour it; if you want to become a VH Addict then please call either Jo or Natalie in Customer Care on 020 8951 4144 and they will make you an Addict on the spot and you will receive an immediate discount on any products ordered.
VH Addict Membership £30 per annum
What a year! We’ve had riots on 60 Seconds, we launched the VH Community and more recently our weekly calendar, Ask a Pharmacist Friday and the Pop-Up shops. A couple of weeks ago I had a ‘mad moment’ when I kept 60 Seconds open for 30 minutes in the morning and afternoon, but it was my way of giving back, most especially to our dedicated customers who are often unable to fight the crazy 60 Seconds rush. Our Facebook family continues to be a great source of amusement and joy and is the place where we talk to each other in real-time. I am indebted to the customers who share their experiences and at times know the answers to questions better than I do, and I also adore reading your comments on the VH editorial section of our site. Thank you.
I have yet more excitement for you, which I will get to in a moment, but the first thing I want to say is that the work we are doing now is the fulfillment of a long-held vision and there is a lot more to come throughout 2013. I always wanted VH to be a ‘destination’ rather than just ‘another’ website selling products because quite honestly I would find that so shallow that I would have to kill myself!
In demonstration of the above statement, I am actually very much alive and kicking and beyond myself with excitement as we launch two new editorial sections on our site. The first, VH Eats, was conceived on Facebook and you can read how and why this happened on my opening editorial. I am saying little else because I can’t wait for you to see it and participate. Let me know what you think!
Andrew and I have been playing around with the next new editorial section for the past 18 months, but all good things are worth waiting for and I hope you enjoy VH Local. Again, please read my opening editorial on this new feature and I know I am utterly predictable, but our first port of call just had to be LA and it just had to be written by Kazu Namise of Phylia fame. Since May, Kazu has become an integral part of the VH family and is an avid contributor to our Facebook page. We loved putting this one together and I had to resist prompting her with the places that I love in LA. Again, let me know what you think and I would love you to participate in this too, wherever you live.
In addition this month, Melanie Harrison (VH Addict extraordinaire) writes about being ‘Out on a Limb’, which I know many of you will relate to. I think more than anything, having an open forum helps so many of us and it is important that holding hands gives us a sense of safety – we are no longer alone. I have received so many emails about this subject, which is why I really want to generate more ways to share and in this vein, our products become secondary to the profound sense of community. Melanie, I thank you for your honesty and bravery. Writing this on an open platform is no small thing.
Out on a Limb by Melanie Harrison
Finally, in our editorial section, the Beauty Bible girls have written ‘The Busy Woman’s Guide to Party’ and Jo Fairley investigates ‘The Best 25 Hair Tips Ever'; I am putting Shabir’s editorial features into the next section, so read on!
The Busy Woman’s Guide to Party; The Best 25 Hair Tips Ever
VH Editorial: Shabir
We’ve had to come quite a way through the newsletter to reach the point where my feet go up on my desk, but the moment has arrived and this month Shabir throws the focus on constipation and then he writes about strategies to promote healthy joints:
Alleviate Constipation Naturally
Having regular bowel movements is absolutely vital for your health. Unfortunately many people suffer from constipation and resort to the use of laxatives or drugs, which may have side effects. Constipation is a very common problem and it can be remedied easily with some simple dietary and lifestyle changes.
In this feature article, Shabir explores the causes of constipation and how you can help alleviate it. I just need to say here that he goes into quite graphic detail; I did ask if it was necessary to be quite so blunt and apparently it is – you have been warned!
VH Editorial: Alleviate Constipation Naturally
Strategies to Promote Healthy & Flexible Joints
Every mechanical object has a weak link, the one area that wears out over time and causes the mechanism to be prone to breakage. An analogy can be made that in the human body, our joints and the surrounding soft tissues are our weakest link. Indeed this breakdown affects millions of people worldwide who suffer from arthritic symptoms, whether due to age or the toll that sport can take on joint health. Our knees, ankles, elbows and wrists are the most commonly affected sites of pain. If our joints are the weakest link, then it is vital that we take control to ensure that they are flexible by introducing several strategies.
In this far-reaching article, Shabir takes a look at exercise, weight and diet and then reveals his strategies to help promote healthy and flexible joints.
VH Editorial: Strategies to Promote Health & Flexible Joints
I think most of you know that I have a big soft spot for Temple Spa; I think their products are sensational and I adore working with Liz and Mark Warom, co-founders of the brand. Last week I sent out a dedicated Temple Spa email, which highlighted their Christmas gift offering. I want each and every one of these gifts, but I’m holding back because they are of course limited editions, but my three favourites (just so that you know) are The Home Spa Collection, Absolute Pleasure and Do Not Disturb (I’m thinking of hanging the ‘Do Not Disturb’ lavender pillow on my desk) and I’m also eyeing up the rather decadent ‘Sparticles’.
Temple Spa Gifts
The next thing I need to say is that we have just released two new videos on VH TV. The first video is all about the fabulous Temple Spa Candles, where Liz talks about each of the four fragrances. Each candle is £25 and they last for absolutely ages; you can watch the short video here.
Temple Spa Candles
Finally, as many of know, Skin Truffle recently won a prestigious award from Beauty Bible, thoroughly deserved in my opinion. In another short video, Liz talks about winning the award and what it means to her. If you feel the need to talk about Skin Truffle, then you can call Shabir because he has secretly used Skin Truffle since we launched it and I’ve just ‘outed’ him! It must have been the pure gold, truffles and diamonds that attracted him and I’m surprised he didn’t join in the video, because he was watching as it was being shot and you can watch it here.
Skin Truffle by Temple Spa £80
VH Gifts, This Works, Neom & Margaret Dabbs
I’m just going to do a very quick run through of our gift section; this year there are some rather gorgeous offerings and aside from a selection of ducks, which make fabulous stocking fillers, I particularly like the following:
This Works: I love the way This Works have packaged their gifts this year, but you will need to be quick because these are limited editions and once they are gone, they are gone. Check out the Beauty Ball Sleep Balm, Deep Sleep Pillow Talk, Perfect Cleavage & Perfect Hands Set, Perfect Heels & Perfect Hands, The Dream Team and Youth Duo. Hard to choose between them, but I predict that the Beauty Ball Sleep Balm will run out the fastest!
Neom: Adore Neom and love their travel candles, so I jumped right on this new limited edition ‘Scent with Love’ Travel Candle Set. This boxed set includes four of Neom’s most popular organic scents to use depending on if you need pampering, relaxing or energizing. All you need do is select a scent for your mood. The four candles are Harmonise, Invigorate, Real Luxury and Tranquillity. Divine.
Scent with Love Travel Candle Set by Neom £55

Beautiful Nails Gift Set £23
Shabir’s Five Favourite Health Products
With ongoing research and development, it is really difficult to pinpoint just five favourite products, most especially when we have approximately 10,000 products on our site. I asked Shabir to bite the bullet and let me know his five favourite health products at this moment and the reason why, so here we go:
Power of Krill: Krill Oil is an omega 3 powerhouse used for a number of health benefits, which are over and above the benefits afforded by fish oils. It is utilized more effectively than fish oils, is free from potential toxins that plague fish oil supplies, whilst also providing potent antioxidant properties.
Power of Krill £24.95 for 60 Softgels
Daily Immunity: The most comprehensive immune enhancing supplement, incorporating a variety of nutrients and herbs necessary to ensure the optimal workings of the most complicated system within our bodies.
Daily Immunity £25 for 60 Capsules (V)
Superior Joints: Absolutely delivers joint flexibility as well as helping to alleviate pain with science-backed studies. I knew from the studies that the feedback would be pretty tremendous, but it has exceeded expectations.
Superior Joints £29.95 for 60 Capsules (V)
Magnolia Rhodiola Complex: A fast-acting supplement that physically helps relax muscles and nerves, helps enhance mood and also helps relax the mind, without causing drowsiness. Just to say that this product has been out of stock; the manufacturers have informed us that it should be with us within the next two or three days, so apologies if you are on the wait list.
Magnolia Rhodiola Complex £26 for 60 Capsules
Fulphyl: Like Gill, I truly believe that Fulphyl has been the health launch of the year and the past decade. I have read the research, I have read the protocol studies and I have seen the science on Humic Free Fulvic Acid. I have spoken at length with Kazu Namise and I am in no doubt whatsoever that we are witnessing a health phenomenon in its very early stages.
Fulphyl £160 for 360 ml
I would follow up with my five favourite products, but I just can’t because I am passionate about too many products, as is evident from this year’s newsletters. If I was pushed, the three health products that I will absolutely not live without (Fulphyl aside) are Hyaluronic Acid, Skin Restoring Ceramides and Mega Probiotic ND. I cannot stress enough how important it is to take a probiotic. I’m going to yank Shabir’s article about probiotics from the archives, so do take time to read it because I’m pretty evangelical about Mega-P and the difference this supplement makes is pretty astounding. Anyway, who wants to be bloated over Christmas – not me thank you very much!
VH Editorial: Probiotics; Hyaluronic Acid High Strength £35 for 30 Capsules (V); Skin Restoring Ceramides £25 for 30 Liquid Capsules; Mega Probiotic ND £18.50 for 60 Capsules (V)
A note if you are travelling this Christmas; these are the three products that I would highly recommend you take with you:
Altitude Oil: Flying can cause congestion and a stuffy head and cabins can be full of bugs. Altitude Oil helps fight off germs and also gives a sense of calm. If you develop a cold, then a few sniffs will help clear your head and you can also add a few drops to your bath.
Altitude Oil by de Mamiel £22 for 10 ml
Airogym Exerciser: Invented by an ex British Airways senior long haul captain, the Airogym Exerciser is a pocket sized, inflatable exercise cushion. Originally designed to help prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), as well as e-thrombosis in the desk-bound and swollen ankles, it now has a wide ranging application and is actually quite good fun to use. See the short video on VH TV here.
Airogym Exerciser £11.99
Lanolips Jet-Setter Travel Pack: The air inside a plane is over four times drier than the air on the ground, so help protect your skin when travelling Lanolips convenient airport-friendly travel pack. Featuring Lanolips Multi-Award winning ‘gold standard’ products, this travel pack includes Lanolips 101, Lanolips Rose Balm Intense for very dry hands and Lanolips Golden Ointment in a collectable tin.
Lanolips Jet-Setter Travel Pack £14.99
The Girl Did Good
Many of you may have seen several interviews in the press with Hilary Boyd, the author of Thursdays in the Park, which recently shot straight to the top Amazon’s bestselling downloads, which is a romantic tale, tracking the unfolding love affair between a couple in their 60’s. In one of the interviews given she was misquoted as saying she had worked in a vitamin ‘factory’ and I laughed so much I had tears rolling down my face! So just to say that this is ‘our’ Hilly, otherwise known as PH (Princess Hilly), we are all so completely proud of her and she is forever a part of the VH family. If you want to read Hilly’s book, then you can download it from Amazon.
Finally, we come to the end of another newsletter and as the year draws to a close, I want to thank each of you again for your amazing loyalty and support. On behalf of Shabir, Andrew, the VH Team and the VH Editorial Team, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
Because of the holiday period, I will probably send the January newsletter out during the first week of January, so until then I will catch you over on Facebook, where we can keep up to date.
I couldn’t end this newsletter without one last treat; I know that many of you tend to use VH as a one-stop shop, for which I am immensely grateful, so if you spend £300 (or more!) on one single order, then I will send you a gorgeous Christmas gift, just because I can! You can do this online.
