In all our years of Beauty Bible testing, nothing quite like this has happened before. At the start of our trials, a new brand – we’d only just discovered it ourselves – submitted all five of their debut products for trials for The Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible. We duly dispatched Aurelia Probiotic Skincare’s brand new launches to our diligent teams, and waited – for months, as per our protocol (testers have to use products till the end of the jar/bottle/whatever) – for the results.

But boy, were we blown away at that moment. Because every single one of Aurelia’s entries did well enough to make it into the line-up for the book (out of 2,300 products submitted altogether, which we’re sure you’ll agree is pretty amazing). And not only that: they ratcheted up some staggeringly high scores, including one of the highest-ever in Beauty Bible’s history – for the Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser. Each of those five products can now proudly display a Beauty Bible ‘Awards’ sticker, as an acknowledgment of a stellar performance, helping beauty-hounds to take a short cut to products which really perform.

But we had the idea, at that point, of coming up with a new Award altogether: ‘Best New Brand’. We’ve presented it to Aurelia’s skincare expert founder Claire Vero – the very first time in 18 years of Beauty Bible history that we’ve done something like this. And we can’t wait to try everything this innovative, young naturals brand produces, from here on in.

For now, though, we wanted to share our testers’ verdicts on the five original Aurelia Probiotic Skincare submissions, because right from the word go Gill has showcased these on VH.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser 9.5/10

This night treatment has notched up one of the highest product scores in Beauty Bible’s history – a truly fantastic achievement. Rich with baobab, firming kigelia Africana, hibiscus, borage oil and the exotically-named mongongo oil, plus shea butter, it has a skin-melting texture and an utterly delectable orange blossom, mandarin, rose and lavender scent. (While compiling this blurb on the product, we just sat around sniffing the jar. Sad but true.)

Comments: ‘5-star rating: skin firmer, fine lines plumper – my husband said, “have you changed your skincare? Aurelia Miracle Cleanser 9.43

Aromatic (think: eucalyptus, chamomile, rosemary, bergamot). Rich and creamy – like an old-fashioned cleansing cream. And amazingly high-scoring! This just wowed testers, blending BioOrganic plant and flower essences, it comes with its own textured anti-bacterial bamboo cloth, for removal.

Comments: ‘Perfect texture: non-greasy, light but rich’ • ‘a lovely indulgent product to use – makes cleansing a pleasure; I really like the eucalyptus smell and it helps me to breathe well in the morning’ • ‘left my skin soft and smooth, completely moisturised and lovely to the touch (it was so soft I found myself stroking my face all the time in amazement!)’ • ‘so easy to use you could use it in the dark! • ‘I have loved using this: it made my skin wonderfully soft and I haven’t had a single spot (pushing 40 and still get them) – beautiful clear skin for the first time in ages’ • ‘a little goes a long way; I didn’t think the jar would last, but it has’.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Cell Repair Night Oil 9.15/10

In this case, Aurelia scooped an award for a very high-scoring oil bursting with the fresh but intoxicating scent of orange blossom, alongside lavender, rose and mandarin. Some of the oils sound pretty exotic: mongongo and Kalahari plant oils, baobab (a new buzz ingredient), and firming kigelia. Dispensed via a dropper bottle.

Comments: ‘Skin looked fresh and plump after just the first application – on the odd night I didn’t use it, noticed my skin wasn’t as good’ • ‘LOVE this product: smells absolutely divine (floral, sensual), sinks into skin with little effort and a little goes a long way’ • ‘oh my word, how much do I love this…? I could smother myself in this – the smell is amazing’ • ‘enhanced radiance and made me look younger’ • ‘everyone has commented on how my skin looks and how my colour has evened out (after three children I had pigmentation) – I now don’t have a single blemish’ • skin looks good, glowier and softer; my mother and husband have both commented’ • ‘really rate this due to noticeable effect, gentleness, smell, lightness/non-greasiness, quick absorption – great product’.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser 8.33

A really fantastic choice for thirstier complexions: the delicious whipped cream delivers baobab, hibiscus, firming kigelia Africana, borage oil and ‘mongongo’ oil, which is abundant in vitamin C. Jasmine, plumeria, tuberose and mandarin are responsible for the divine scent.

Comments: ‘I would go so far as to say I’d put this product higher than any I’ve ever used – my skin definitely looks and feels better’ • ‘excellent product which kept my dry, sensitive skin supple and soft; seemed to fill out lines’ • ‘skin looked healthier, plumped; fine lines seemed to dissolve and larger crevices (on forehead) softened’ • ‘gorgeous light, fresh jasmine and orange aroma’ • ‘wonderful primer for foundation/make-up’ • ‘my other half commented my skin looks “lovely and fresh”.’

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Revitalise & Glow Serum 7.63/10

Yet another winner: this is a serum (one of Jo’s favourite products, actually), combining baobab, omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, firming kigelia Africana, hibiscus, a great whack of vitamin E – and it seduces with the blend of jasmine, plumeria, mandarin and tuberose which has bewitched testers in other categories.

Comments: ‘I feel 10 years younger when I’ve applied this; I would probably use it more than once a day if I could afford to’ • ‘made my face feel fresher instantly and appear more radiant, especially during our building work surrounded by dust!’ • ‘quick and easy to apply with a good effect on skintone and the advantage of easier make-up application’ • ‘I have finished the bottle and am going to buy another one’ • ‘thank you for giving me the opportunity to revitalize myself – and my complexion’ • ‘my skin was commented on by a work colleague today; when guessing my age she was 10 years out (too young) – so this must be doing something good!’
