Weekend Read 5 September 2020
And suddenly it’s September. As we step into the Autumn months, we embrace all that it brings with hope and a pragmatic acceptance of who and what we are in this ever-changing world. It is my favourite season of the year. We are through the heat of the Summer and I welcome the cooler days and nights. If we are talking health, then this is where, under normal circumstances, I would start writing about protecting our immunity. Except I’ve been writing about it for most of the year and I will continue to do so because of its importance.
But before we go any further, there are other things I would like to talk about. Such as Saturday mornings. Will I ever go out on a Saturday morning again. Extremely doubtful. It is at this point that I would like to thank each of you who send emails, not only about products, but about all the other mad things I write about too. You see, there has to be a balance in life and laughing together is a great balance. Not least discussing Selling Sunset with you, which is how I spent most of last Saturday. It is the zeitgeist. And it rather amused me to read an article about Sunset in The Times last Saturday too. I’m still laughing. And, it needs to be said, waiting for Series Four. Rather impatiently.
Anyway, anyway, onwards we go and, as ever, we are headed straight into a treat and it’s all about our skin. With each changing season, we adjust the products we use accordingly and although some are a given throughout the year, there are always those that we need to include in any regimen. And so it is with these three products. ‘Fabulous Skin’ includes three of the most researched supplements required for healthy, radiant and youthful skin. They are Hyaluronic Acid, Skin Restoring Ceramides and Astaxanthin with Phospholipids.
Obviously Hyaluronic Acid needs no words from me; most of you take it and I’ve been taking HA supplementation for over 20 years. I got hooked into it because it was so often described as the ‘fountain of youth’ (I’ll take that thank you) but of course it is hugely beneficial for so many other reasons, including helping to cushion our joints. Onwards, and clinical studies have shown that wheat ceramide supplementation enhances skin moisture levels in a very measurable way, which can only be a very good thing and Astaxanthin, the third supplement, is an extremely important antioxidant.
Shabir has written reams about Astaxanthin and I am linking two of his archived articles about the importance of Astaxanthin below. This particular formulation is blended with Phospholipids to help facilitate the maximum absorption of Astaxanthin into the bloodstream, where it is transported to cells throughout the body. So there we have it. Three skin-changing and skin-enhancing products for £60, instead of £74, which means you get Astaxanthin with Phospholipids as a free gift from me to you.
We are worth it, our skin is worth it; I’m not sure Shabir thinks I am worth it, but never mind that. Fabulous Skin is a Saturday only offer and will end at midnight BST tonight (Saturday 5 September) or whilst stock lasts. Whichever comes first.
Fabulous Skin £60 (Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength £35 for 30 Vegecaps; Skin Restoring Ceramides £25 for 30 Liquid Capsules; Astaxanthin with Phospholipids £14 for 30 Softgels); Astaxanthin Protects The Whole Body; Astaxanthin: The Powerful Age-Defying Antioxidant
Staying on skin, the response to Shabir’s article on chin acne was immense. If you missed it last weekend, then you can read it here, but I feel it is also important to resurrect his article about blackheads, which are a great concern for so many. Blackheads can develop at any stage of life, but generally start from our teens during which time hormones are usually out of balance. And on from there, Shabir discusses the treatment of blackheads using salicylic acid.
Using Salicylic Acid For Blackheads; Salicylic Acid 2% Serum by GoW for VH £10 for 30 ml
Two new products. Both from Better You. The first is Vitamin C Daily Oral Spray. It has been formulated to provide a fast, effective and convenient way to supplement this immune boosting nutrient. It combines 100 mg of Vitamin C, naturally sourced from Acerola Cherry Extract, with Selenium, to help support immune health, and Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) to help protect cells from oxidative stress. The dosage is four sprays daily for adults and everybody can use it, including children from the age of one. There are no known contraindications.
Vitamin C Daily Oral Spray by Better You £9.95 for 25 ml
Let’s up the ante and we do it with DLux 4000 Vitamin D Daily Oral Spray. This is the latest addition to Better You’s award-winning Vitamin D oral spray range and it comes as a maximum strength 4000 IU Vitamin D3 designed to elevate and maintain Vitamin D levels in the body. This optimum strength daily oral spray has been scientifically formulated to deliver Vitamin D directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the primary processing by the gut.
Having written about the huge importance of Vitamin D over the past few months, this is the product that I believe we should all be taking, not only for the now, but for all time. I mean I’ve only been campaigning about this for the past ten years. I’ll continue for the next ten years if I’m still here. Could be debatable.

Because I believe the inside/out approach to beauty is so important, let’s go topical. And we’ll do this with a treat. A Sarah Chapman treat to be precise. So whilst stock lasts, with every Sarah Chapman product (or products) ordered for £15 and above, we will automatically include Eye Recovery (5 ml), which is worth £16. This will not show on your order confirmation or invoice and there is only one gift per customer, so please don’t panic. We share. With love.

There are quite a few new supplements being released at the moment and there are one or two that Shabir is rather taken with, which is quite something. Uric Acid Control is one of them. In short, uric acid is a waste by-product. It is formed when your body breaks down purines, a chemical compound found in some food and drinks. Purines appear when cells die and get taken apart and although most of the Uric Acid is excreted through normal bodily function, some remains.
If you have high levels of Uric Acid, it can be a sign of disease such as gout. Rich in tannin, derived from the edible fruit of the Terminalia bellerica tree, Uric Acid Control will help to keep your uric acid within a healthy range by supporting healthy concentrations of two critical enzymes involved in uric acid metabolism, Xanthine oxidase and inducible nitric oxide. Aside from helping to treat gout, it is also recommended for those with arthritis, diabetes and psoriasis or for those with a high alcohol consumption.
Uric Acid Control by Life Extension £20 for 60 Vegetarian Capsules
With a heavy leaning on supplementation this week, I will continue by telling you about Good Green Stuff. There are of course thousands of this type of product on the market, but Shabir believes this formulation is pretty heroic. With over 75 nutrient-rich ingredients, this is so much more than just greens. It is a potent blend of carefully selected fruits, vegetables and herbs with added vitamins, minerals, probiotics, antioxidants and other essential nutrients.
Formulated to help improve immunity and memory, it also helps reduce stress and boosts metabolism. One scoop daily. In a cold glass of water. Or for the ultimate kick, mix it into Fulvic Acid Elixir. I guess you all know what I’m doing. I’m reminded of Popeye. Not Olive Oyl. Poor Olive Oyl. Her affections were torn between Popeye and Bluto. And whose baby was Swee’Pea exactly? I think I had better stop there before I get totally carried away, but you get the gist. Take your greens.
Good Green Stuff by Nuzest £22.50 for 120 grams; Fulvic Acid Elixir £30 for 480 ml
If I may, just a word here about Vitamin C 23% + Ferulic Acid. I know we haven’t got to the end of the year yet, but I think I could call the shots now and tell you that it will be our bestselling beauty product for the third year running. Interestingly, C-Deep is running second, so in other words it is all about Vitamin C and in some ways I think it will continue through for the foreseeable future. I have to include Derma E’s Vitamin C Bright Eyes Hydro Gel Patches in this too because we can just about keep them in stock. And as I said I would, I took an entire jar and plastered them all over my body. Cue phenomenal skin!
Furthermore, incredible as it may seem, Shabir has written approximately 1200 articles about Vitamin C. All forms. I am not going to list them (as if), but they are there to be read and referred to, should you feel the need. I also need to say here that we are still using temporary packaging for Vitamin C 23%. I know it is not ideal, but the packaging issues created by Covid-19 are nothing short of a nightmare. So please accept my apologies, it was either the temporary packaging or going out of stock for several months. And quite honestly I couldn’t face another massive wait list. I hope you understand.
Vitamin C 23% + Ferulic Acid by GoW for VH £10 for 30 ml; C-Deep Vitamin C Serum by GoW for VH £18 for 30 ml; Vitamin C Bright Eyes Hydro Gel Patches £20 for 60 Gel Patches
Let’s talk about iS Clinical, which as most of you know, I love and adore. In line with several other brands, new product launches have been delayed because of the ongoing restrictions placed around raw ingredient and componentry issues. Whilst of course I adore launching new products, most especially for my LA boyfriends (Bryan Johns and Alec Call, Founders), we are going to have to wait until at least October for the next launch, which I promise you is amazing because I’ve been testing it for months. Slight clue. It’s not for the face.
In the meantime, let me say a few words about a product that is for the face and that is Copper Firming Mist. We launched this several years ago, but it still remains one of my must-have-must-use iS Clinical products. It provides antioxidant protection against many ageing processes such as sun damage and movement lines. It helps regulate the skin with collagen stimulating copper and botanically sourced PCA to help regulate sebaceous gland activity. It is fabulous for congested skin and helps prevent bacteria seeping in, which may cause skin flaws.
I am forever in awe of iS Clinical’s immaculate formulations. I invite you to spritz with me. And furthermore, if you feel like your skin is dehydrated, then do try Hydra-Cool Serum. This is the serum that I always take with me on long-haul journeys, using copious amounts. It always saves my skin and it’s still doing so, even though I’m not doing long-haul. Or short-haul. Or anything really. It’s fine. This too shall pass.
Copper Firming Mist by iS Clinical £26 for 75 ml; Hydra-Cool Serum by iS Clinical £50 for 15 ml; Hydra-Cool Serum by iS Clinical £80 for 30 ml
After a summer recess, Sarah is back with Health Notes and this week she delves into aromatherapy. Once derided as scented woo-woo at best, quackery at worst, the fragrant power of aromatherapy is now recognised as imparting significant benefits. Sarah investigates.
Aromatherapy For Autumn
We are nearing the end and I would just like to talk about one more health concern, which is very common and irritating. At some point in our lives, most of us will probably experience the mild symptoms of seeing tiny spots floating around in our vision. These are called floaters and are defined as small specks or clouds that drift into the field of vision. They are generally harmless, but nevertheless Shabir does another one of his in-depths on the subject together with his recommendations.
Eye Floaters and Flashes; Nutrof Total £14.99 for 30 Capsules; Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength £35 for 30 Vegecaps
It’s the Saturday only treat, so with every order placed today (Saturday 5 September) for £25 and over (excluding p&p), we will automatically send you a botanical fibre facial mask from Biobelle. It is called Rise & Shine and it is loaded with pineapple extract and glycolic acid. As ever, this will not show up on your order confirmation or invoice, but will be included in your order. Enjoy.
Finally, I am going to end with an article written by Sally Brampton. As so many of you know, we lost Sally a few years ago and in keeping with her wishes, I have kept all of her articles listed on our site. Her wisdom was profound, it always will be and this week I want to share the article she wrote about change. I feel her words are so pertinent for this moment. In my dreams she is not only with me, but with each of us and somewhere on a cloud, she would want you to know that you are not alone. We never are.
Change by Sally Brampton
My love to each of you.
