Weekend Read 4 July 2020
It is the day of all days. So hello 4th July and it’s Super Saturday, American Independence Day and Shabir’s birthday. In no particular order. And after last week’s missive where Shabir questioned my sanity regarding loading the Weekend Read with gifts and treats, I am about to do the biggest give-away in the history of VH as we launch a new brand. Touché sweetheart, this one’s for you. Timed to perfection. By me. Happy birthday. To you.
Let’s go straight in. It’s a haircare brand. It’s called ‘It’s A Ten’. They have products for every hair type and I will introduce each product range gradually over the next few months. Known as THE ‘go-to’ haircare brand in North America, the name reflects the fact that each product combines ten benefits into an all-in-one gold standard formulation. And gold-standard they are. I will walk you through as we initially launch with ten products. But the first thing I want to tell you is that It’s A Ten’s meteoric rise to fame in the US was all achieved by sharing. And we are about to do the same here. Heaven help me. I feel a drama coming on. Strong.
We launch with five of the iconic Miracle Leave-In products. I use the word ‘iconic’ because in the US the Miracle Leave-In range sells over 13 million bottles a year. Yep, 13 million. So what’s the big deal secret, well each Miracle Leave-In spray, by design, helps smooth hair, eliminates frizz, restores shine and also enhances the natural body in hair, dependent upon which formulation you choose. And oh my, if we are going to shake up the haircare world, we might as well do it with this remarkable range which is like no other leave-in conditioning product in existence (thankfully). Trust me. And Jo Fairley. And several million American people.
So I’ve told you about the first five products, which you can check out on the product link below. The others are Miracle Moisture Shampoo, Miracle Daily Conditioner, Miracle Brightening Shampoo for Blondes, Miracle Clay Mask for Blondes and the Miracle Hair Mask. The truly exceptional and extraordinary Miracle Hair Mask. It can be used as a daily conditioner or as a periodic deep-conditioning treatment. I use it by way of a weekly ritual. Its brilliance leaves me almost speechless every single week. I implore you to try it because it is above heroic. Whatever that means.
It is at this point that I abdicate to Jo Fairley. Because I no longer write monthly, my space is limited on these weekly bulletins, so I thought Jo could co-launch It’s A Ten with me by interviewing the Founder and CEO of the brand, Carolyn Aronson. I think you may well want to read this article because it will give you further background into this incredibly innovative brand, which is so completely fascinating, and you will also read what happened to Jo when she tried two of the products. Slight clue. She was blown away. Thankfully, not literally.
And now the sharing. And we’ll do it by gifting each of you with the original Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Spray (59.1 ml), which is worth £11, when you buy any It’s A Ten product. This is an ongoing offer, but there is only one gift per order, which I’m sure you can understand. The success of the brand is in the giving. It is something that I totally believe in and it allows you to try It’s A Ten’s bestselling product alongside a product of your choice. I would choose the Miracle Mask, but I’m being a touch biased. And that’s a wrap except to extend my love and thanks to It’s A Ten for supporting me in order that I can support each of you. Together we’ll rock this thing. Onto another planet. Perhaps.

After the age of 25, it is estimated that we lose 1.5% of our collagen every year, which results in a loss of elasticity, the formation of fine lines, a lack of firmness and a loss of hydration. I am not going to delve deep into the science, but I will just tell you that collagen supplementation is mostly downgraded by the digestive action of the stomach before the collagen peptide is absorbed.
Ultimate Collagen+, by Ingenious Beauty, is a patented 100% natural cellulose enteric capsule, which is protected from destructive juices in the stomach, dissolving in the small intestine, the site of maximum absorption. Ingenious state that no other collagen supplement does this. Furthermore the results of a Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial have just been announced. Being the largest serious clinical trial on a collagen supplement to date, it provided direct evidence that a high percentage of the group experienced a significant improvement to the quality of their skin. ‘The results of this study are remarkable, proving with robust, direct, scientific evidence that Ingenious Beauty really works’. The words of Professor Luigi Martini FRPharmS, Professor of Pharmaceutical Innovation at King’s College, London. And now my words:
For best results it is recommended that you take Ultimate Collagen+ for at least three months. So if you feel inclined to do that (I think Shabir secretly takes it), then we will gift you a further four weeks supply of Ultimate Collagen+ whilst stock lasts. This is worth £49.99, it comes in a pouch and it will be automatically included in your order. Additionally, the normal price for a three month supply of Ultra Collagen+ is £149.97, but because this is a gift pack, the price is reduced to £134.99. Who’s dreaming of an elastic face. I am.
Ultimate Collagen+ by Ingenious Beauty: Three Month Gift Pack £134.99 (including an additional four weeks supply worth £49.99)
Time for another common health concern and this week we take a look at Candida. There are approximately 150 known species of Candida, a yeast-like group of fungi that exist in more than 80% of people. They usually exist in the genitourinary tracts, respiratory tract and the gastrointestinal tract. Typically they exist in the body without being harmful, however an abnormal overgrowth of these fungi can cause infection often referred to as Candidiasis. Once again Shabir does the lowdown as he examines the symptoms of Candida and recommends a regimen, which includes the rather fabulous Horopito and Aniseed. Horopito and Aniseed can also be used for any fungal infection, such as vaginal thrush and fungal toenails. Such an amazing product.
How To Treat Candida; Horopito and Aniseed by Kolorex £23 for 60 Capsules
Another launch, and this time it’s from Aromatherapy Associates who have just released four rather wonderful, transformational shower oils. Transformational because they turn from an oil to a milk as if by magic. They are each loaded with therapeutic essential oil blends, such as the Rose Shower Gel which includes Rose, Geranium and Palmarosa. So the thing is, I know they are shower gels, but I don’t see why you can’t massage the oil into your skin and then step into a bath. Or massage your feet with the oil and stick them in a footbath. It’s all about the soak. A milk soak. Of epic proportions. Especially if you pour the entire contents of a bottle into one bath. No don’t do that. That would be insane. Ends.
Rose Shower Oil £26 for 250 ml; De-Stress Shower Oil £26 for 250 ml; Revive Shower Oil £26 for 250 ml; De-Stress Muscle Shower Oil £26 for 250 ml
As I wrote last week, I lurch from one drama to another. This week the drama involves the Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies by Goli Nutrition. We were told that our stock would be replenished at the end of June, except the end of June has been and gone and they are now telling me that we won’t get any further stock until the end of July at the earliest. I mean why couldn’t they tell me that earlier. Look, we love the product, but there is a famine, we have a horrid wait list (again) so I’m going to try and stem that famine by offering you a treat.
Many of you will have read that we launched Sugar-Free Apple Cider Gummies by New Nordic a couple of weeks ago. I don’t want to deprive you of your Gummie intake, so for this weekend only, we are offering you the chance to try the Sugar-Free Apple Cider Gummies for £13.50. The regular price is £17.95, so that’s a saving of £4.45. This offer will end at midnight GMT tomorrow (Sunday 5 July), or whilst stock lasts. And who knows, you may well prefer them. I think Shabir does.
Sugar-Free Apple Cider Gummies by New Nordic £13.50 for 60 Gummies
This week on Health Notes, Sarah finds out why vitamin D is so vital for health and that a rather sceptical scientist admits to taking a daily supplement. Additionally she explores the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency and how much you actually need. An interesting read. I suppose you could call it the definitive.

Can we talk about skin please. Most specifically compromised skin. I’ll make this short and sweet. If you are experiencing acne, or any other outbreaks, then please do try a course of Clear Skin Complex. We are receiving so many emails saying that with no previous history of acne, breakouts were occurring. The main causal factor is hormonal stress and there is an awful lot of that going on. And then an email from a customer telling us that after two months of taking the capsules daily, her acne had disappeared. I am not saying that everybody will achieve the same, but this remains our bestselling product for compromised skin. And wouldn’t you know it, Shabir has written an article about it. Of course he has. One further recommendation, use Clear Skin in conjunction with Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash by Derma E. Derma E are having a moment or two in the skincare stakes. More next week.
How To Get Clear Skin; Clear Skin Complex by Viridian Nutrition £24.70 for 60 Capsules; Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash by Derma E £15 for 175 ml
I know. Let’s do another treat to celebrate Shabir’s birthday. It has been quite a long time since I wrote about the Nannette de Gaspé products. I mean I love her products. I know they are expensive, but when Shabir isn’t looking I load one or two jars of Baume Noir Face into my bag. Never mind that it’s £275. But that’s not what I want to talk about. It’s Roller Noir which, unsurprisingly, is the bestselling product in the range. This at-home micro-needling treatment is made from strong 0.5mm Titanium needles, so it goes in pretty deep. A very good thing if you are a roller.
So you need to know two things. The full instructions for use are on the product page. That’s the first thing. The second thing is that I am about to do another weekend only treat. The normal price for the Roller Noir is £35, but until midnight GMT tomorrow (Sunday 5 July), I am lowering the price to £25, which is a saving of £10. Even I can work that one out. Anyway this may or may not last the entire weekend. I think you may need to be quick.
Roller Noir by Nannette de Gaspé £25 (whilst stock lasts); Baume Noir Face £275 for 50 ml (if you feel so inclined)
If we are having a love fest, which it appears we are, then I need to write about iS Clinical. I miss Bryan and Alec (co-founders) so much and heaven only knows when I will see them again. So I will just have to console myself by writing about their amazing Hydra-Intensive Cooling Masque, which is now available in a smaller travel size. Except we’re not travelling. But never mind that, this is the masque that cools, hydrates, reinvigorates, rejuvenates and refreshes dehydrated skin. This is also the professional strength product that is used in all the iS Clinical facials, not that any of us are having facials at the moment. We can only dream of such things I suppose.
Hydra-Intensive Cooling Masque by iS Clinical £40 for 50 ml
I really try not to have too many dramas in any given week, but after we launched the Healing Patches for Ross last week, everything went into meltdown. So the first thing to say is thank you for your amazing support, we were overwhelmed. The second thing is that by 11 am last Saturday we had to place another rather large order. The third thing is that I had to slap a patch on my forehead because my head was pounding. It rather amused me to write ‘stock distress’ across the patch and suddenly I felt better. A whole new dimension has arisen. Name that patch!
Healing Patches by Ross J. Barr £15 for Five Patches
And it’s time for the Saturday only treat. So with every order placed today (Saturday 4 July) for £20 or over, we will automatically include a Skin Republic Exfoliating Hand Mask. Containing Alpha Hydroxy Acid, a natural acid predominately found in fruit, this hand mask exfoliates and gently removes rough, dry skin. Please be aware that this will not show up on your order confirmation or invoice. Thanks.
Let me count the ways I love Costco, writes Jackie Annesley. When Jackie told me she wanted to write an article about Costco I couldn’t stop laughing and when I finally stopped, we decided we would go on a research trip together. This article is the result of our Saturday night rave-up in Costco. We sure know how to live. And if you need to know, which I’m sure you don’t, we are doing it all over again tonight. We forgot to buy tea towels. Seriously.
Let Me Count The Ways I Love Costco by Jackie Annesley
Finally, the end.
So together with a one-yearer Shabir, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Your support is immeasurable, I thank you.
With love
